Ed Calle Plays Santana.......2006-11-25

I first heard Ed Calle's version of "Black Magic Woman" on the Miami based [...] Latin Jazz Quarter show. You can hear this Radio Station "Live on the Internet" (7) days a week. I was very impressed with this new version of this old Santana Classic. I went to CDNOW.com to hear the other tracks on this cd and thought that they were all a very good. I also discovered that Ed Calle-Plays Santana is his 6th Album. This is the first time he's tackled an individual artist's music (Carlos Santana) and his efforts have paid off with a Grammy Nomination for the Best Instrumental Album of 2005. I ordered this CD from CDNOW.com and recommend this to all Latin Jazz fans. You will not be disappointed....

Oh my, this is bad! BAD!! I usually love Ed`s playing, and he plays great on this one to, but the arrangements stinks!! Way to much synth`s!! Smooth is the only song that works! Oye come va is just torture...

He's supported by an array of Latin jazz all-stars, including saxophonist/clarinetist Paquito D'Rivera and the late trombonist Juan Pablo Torres. The first disc is an eight-suite big band opus entitled Suite Cubana. "Cachao, Creator del Mambo," pays tribute to the influential bassist, while the processional pulsations on "Nocturno en Batanga," features the engaging rhythm Valdes created in the '50s. The second disc, El Solar de Bebo (Bebo's Place) showcases the pianist in a smaller octet setting. With more room to swing, Valdes's profound pianisms percolate on the Haitianized joropo beats on "Iballah," and the infectious "La Mula." Fabulous music.......2007-05-15

My only complaint about this wonderful double album is the defective construction of the CD case, which resulted in a trail of glue on each CD. Luckily, I was able to get it off and enjoy the music. I have watched the DVD yet, so have no comment.

The nyckelharpa, or keyed fiddle, is a peculiarly Swedish instrument, one that can be both gentle and aggressive. The six musicians who make up the Nyckelharpa Orchestra, including Väsen's Olov Johansson, are all masters of the instrument. Their album, named for one of the major figures in the nyckelharpa's history (and modeled after the traditional tunes in his style), is a thing of joy. From the tinkling, music box introduction to "Samlingsmarsch" to the gliding beauty of "Klockstapelvalsen," they cover all the bases, throwing in a number of polskas as well. The interplay between the musicians is often breathtaking, as they trade off lines or the whole ensemble plays in folkish grandeur. Cuban Clarinets.......2000-06-17

With the addition of dual clarinets, this new release by the great Compay Segundo has a distinctly antique 40's sound. The results are charming. Many of the cuts have a soft swinging lilt that is a quite different sound than that of the other "graduates" of the Buena Vista Social Club. Of course, the percussive jump of some cuts will be recognized. This is a fantastic album that has not been out of my car CD player in two months. It's my favorite of all the Cuban CDs I own and clearly the best of the post-Buena Vista recording by any of the stars of that grouping. Eliades Ochoa's recent Son De Santiago comes closest.

Sabina usted que..........2007-01-05

Como cantante y compositor J. Sabina a dejado claro que está a la altura de los mejores en su profesión. Con una lírica similar a la de cantantes de la talla de J.M. Serrat, su estilo particular y forma de ver la vida (realista, cruda y coloquial) hace que algunas de sus letras resulten ofensivas para algo oidos delicados... hay que saber entenderlo y hay que saber que se está eschuchando.

... y digo inesperadamente porque yo ya habia dejado de interesarme por la obra del bueno de Joaquin desde hacia ya bastantes anyos. Tal vez que cambie de gustos o tal vez cansancio de oir los mismos juegos de palabras, convenientemente reciclados, una y otra vez. En fin, el caso es que cuando este elbum cayo en mis manos pense: "otra vez mas de lo mismo". Como dirian los gringos, boy was I in for a surprise! Cierto, no podia estar mas equivocado, la verdad. Profundo, banal, introspectivo, extrovertido, jocoso, serio, jovial, amargo... este album tiene un poco de todo y todo lo que tiene es bueno. Me resulta incluso dificil destacar una sola cancion del resto ya que este es un album para escuchar de principio a fin, tal es la perfeccion con que cada cancion se enlaza con la precedente. En definitiva, un gran disco, para mi gusto a la altura de lo mejor que nunca haya hecho Joaquin.

Un disco que demuestra lo que al parecer es el pináculo de Sabina (si su proximo disco es mejor creo que no podré creerlo), un disco que al igual que su autor no tienen parangon en este momento en el habla castellana (y creo que en ninguna lengua mas) dada la sensibilidad y destreza para describir y compartir los sentimientos y situaciones en general de la persona humana. Un maestro que inexplicablemente no es difundido en los medios de comunicación latinos de USA, pero que tiene miles de fieles seguidores.

Wow fue todo lo que pude decir cuando lo escuche por primera vez.
Kabah es un extraordinario grupo es maravillosa la musica que hacen, las letras que escriben ellos mismos, el ritmo esta increible. Me encanto esto de las fantacias y las de amor estan buenisimas. Las canciones que mas les recomiendo son: La calle de las sirenas, Amor por amor, Vivir, Siempre hay una solucion, Vive, Sinti yo no, Juntos, Fuego de gloria, Estare, Amor paz y entendimiento, Tu risa genial y Amor de estudiante (Oops creo que son todas las del C.D.)pero es que todas estan buenisimas. Se los recomiendo esta padrisimo.
