No one will wash our souls anymore.......2006-09-23
I don't have anything against Slowmotion Apocalypse. Great cover art reeled me in and I thought the first track, The Beginning Of The Apocalypse, was really amazing. But after that we're exposed to second-rate music. A lot of the riffs just don't have the 'meat' that other bands do, the riffs are flimsy. The drums rarely sound great, more times than not sounding uncoordinated and sloppy. Bass, well, you can't hear it so I can't talk about it. Then there's the vocals. I tried liking them. Hell, I tried liking the entire band, but it didn't work out in either situation. The vocals reak of monotony, seeing Alberto stick solely to the hardcore type of screaming. Experimentation is what separates great bands from bad ones, and on My Own Private Armageddon we see Slowmotion Apocalypse on the bad side.
Wondering if there are any standouts throughout? Not counting the afforementioned The Beginning Of The Apocalypse there is one midway standout and one standout. The midway one is Vote For Extinction. The band varies up their sound mildly making it an interesting listen at least, Alberto sticks to his normalcy though. The standout is My Furture Is Burning. This is probably the only song that doesn't start out exactly the same as the rest, instead actually building up to the start of the song. The vocals are actually better here than the majority of the record only because of the drawn out screams throughout the verses.
My favorite songs are The Beginning Of The Apocalypse, Vote For Extinction, and My Future Is Burning. I don't like this CD. Plain and simple. Nothing is inspiring about it. Nothing about it makes my blood rush. Nothing about it impresses me. I'm not saying I could do better but I've heard bands do this type of music eons better. Maybe with further releases they'll amount to something more than this, but right now they're just not up to snuff.
Not the most innovative melodeath but still good.......2006-04-05
likes weeds in recent years. While this debut effort definitely relies heavily on the Gothenburg style of
melodic riffing there's also a nice thrash metal influence somewhat similar to Callenish Circle, simple and
straightforward but very effective.
This simplicity does come back to bite them though. As there are quite a few really talented bands out there
playing this style, like Light This City, you need to make sure there's something unique to set you apart
from the crowd. While the musicianship here is solid and well executed there's not a whole lot of distinctive
material here to really make your ears perk up. It would help if the guitars occasionally strayed from the
beaten melodeath path and added some more imaginative riffs/pacing or the drummer added more accents
that make bands like Nightrage and Darkane such genre standouts. Instead we're treated to very well
played but somewhat generic Swedish metal tinged with some thrash elements.
I think there's definitely room for a band like Slowmotion Apocalypse, a back to basics, solid fundamentals
without a lot of flash type of band but there appeal is probably going to be limited to people like me that
really enjoy this style and can look past some slightly stale riffing in favor of solid execution and above
average talent. Of course if you don't already own some of the bands mentioned above they would be a
better place to start.

Blah, blah blah, boring...........2005-08-11
Album opener "The Beginning of the Apocalypse" is a dramatic, synth-lead track that would have most convinced they were in for a theatrical black metal album. Instead, we get boring melodic death metal tinged with metalcore.
If a band isn't going to be even slightly original, they have to be good at what they do and try to bring something new to the table. Unfortunately, Slowmotion Apocalypse is average at best and brings absolutely no new ideas into the fold. They play solidly enough, but nothing stands out whatsoever.
Anyway, expect the usual dual guitar harmonies, tremolo picked rhythms, thrashy drumming, and generic hardcore vocals. Again, solid, but nothing is worth commenting on. Blah, blah, blah... boring.
