Amazing compilation!.......2005-08-15

Suprised this little package from Fania hasn't received a review yet, but judging from it's availability, that might serve as a bit of an explanation. To get down to it, this is awesomely put together compilation. Someone at Fania really knew what they were doing, and that's a tough thing do to when you consider just the TONS of things had to work with. I mean, out of the incredibly large Fania collection I have, I'd be hard pressed to fit on 10 cd's my "Lo Mejor de Mejor" collection. But, this is a good place to start if you're looking to do just that.

Interesting, the two tracks that Amazon has not listed the artists to, are among the best. They are tracks 2 and 10. Track 2 is by the legendary Tommy Olivencia and this song, from the album of the same name, is a very close second to his stellar song "El Negro Chombo." Turning to track 10, that's by Tipica '73, featuring the amazing vocals of Adalberto Santiago. A great song by them, but I'm surprised the compiler didn't opt for "Candela," but pleased nonetheless. Also, the Bobby Valentin track featured here ("Soy Boricua") is one of my favorites by him and features what was to become the truly legendary (passed-too-soon) sonero, Marvin Santiago. Hear this track to hear him in (what I humbly think) was his prime, with among the greats in the Fania aresenal.

The rest of the names here really need no introduction or explanation, or, if they do, you really shouldn't be getting this and you should just go back to buying Marc Anthony cd's and thinking you know about music. I must say that, if I can find any small fault with this compilation, it's that it didn't feature anyting by Impacto Crea, Yayo El Indio, or even Santos Colon. But, search those out for yourselves and get their own releases.

Get this now if you can find it. You will not regret it.
