If you're looking for that elusive instrumental CD from the golden age of Cuban music then this is it. This is permanently glued into my CD player. Classy, mellow horn sections and mostly laid-back rhythms from 1957-60 with a 'big-band influenced' yet so totally Cuban sound.

Hard to find early recordings of Cuban master.......2006-02-07

This is an excellent compilation of the early recordings of Cuban vocalist Antonio Machin. Machin was one of Cuba's most accomplished singers. His clear operatic voice and swinging arrangements have influenced generations of musicians. He is still remembered today all over Latin America for his early recordings of Cuban son. He is admired as well, particularly in Spain, for the classic boleros he recorded later in his career.

These tracks were mostly recorded in Cuba - prior to Machin's move to New York. There is more variety in style and arrangement than in his later New York recordings. On some songs, Machin is accompanied by violin and piano, on others by tres and trumpet.

If you are a lover of Latin music, particularly of the more traditional variety - I recommend getting to know Machin.
