It's a shame (in every sense of the word) that we Brazilians took so long to discover Charly Garcia. While our telescopes were aimed at America and England, a musical revolution was happening just south of the Border, in Argentina. Charly had an impressive background as the former leader of Sui Generis, Maquina de Hacer Pajaros and Seru Giran when he finally broke through to Brazilian audiences during his solo career, in the mid-80's. (Actually, he is mostly popular in the south of Brazil, for geographical reasons.) "Piano Bar" is his finest hour. Como entender los '80.......2001-12-28

Si no viviste los '80 en la Argentina o no tenías plena consciencia de ellos en ese momento (como en mi caso), probablemente esta sea la manera más rápida de entenderlos.
En 1985 Charly García ya había pasado por bandas como Sui Generis y Serú Girán, las cuales le habían cambiado la cara al rock argentino de fines de la década del '70. Ya además había editado dos excelentes discos solistas. Y este disco en sí mostró no sólo la representación misma de la vanguardia musical en la cual descansaría el rock local, sino que también una inteligente lectura de la realidad de aquél momento.
Restaurada la democracia, la juventud argentina intentó, sin olvidar, despegar del pasado de la represión más atroz. Eran tiempos de alegría y de una libertad tan desmedida que asustaba y a la vez fascinaba.
Charly García, obviamente, no era ajeno a todo este sentimiento y volcó en este disco su visión de una sociedad que todavía tenía las heridas sin cerrar pero la cual se debía a si misma una cierta cuota de optimismo. Conviven en este trabajo momentos de rabia contenida como en "Demoliendo Hoteles" y "Cerca de la revolución", momentos de reflexión personal como en "Promesas sobre el bidet", retratos de nuevas tendencias en el pensamiento y en la forma de actuar "Raros peinados nuevos", un ácido resúmen de diez años de historia argentina digno de cualquier manual escolar "Rap del exilio" y algún lugar para la melancolía de un artista que quizo siempre comprar su paz mental a través de la música como en "Piano Bar" y "Total interferencia".
Como si todo eso fuera poco, García esta acompañado por músicos de la talla de Pablo Guyot, Willy Iturri y Alfredo Toth (quienes luego formarían GIT), Daniel Melingo (quien luego sería parte de bandas fundamentales como Los Twist y Los Abuelos de la Nada) y nada menos que Fito Páez.
El retrato de una época tanto musical como emocional, de un artista al que muchos tildan de loco todavía, pero en el cual muchos confiamos por su más que acertada visión de la realidad.

This is to let people know, how good can a production be when you joint two big stars from latino music.
However, it is necessary to credit Garcia's songwriting genius.
He, like very few in Latin America, achieved a place in music stardom, due to his anormous contribuition and honest attitude.
Around saxon world, Garcia is not commonly known, still, I can tell as a musician, there's been more than one "composer" feeding from his source!
Sosa, as well, is the best argentinian folk singer.

Teresa Parodi and Soledad are living reflections of her shining career.

There's not a lot to say. For me this album belongs to the three best she ever did. Especially I like on this one that she recorded just songs written by the great Charly Garcia. She's chosen a very modern and contemporary sound which may be not this familiar to many Sosa fans. I think this album can especially recommended to young people as well as it features fantastic songs with beautiful lyrics and of course the voice of Argentina Mercedes Sosa.

Musicalmente hablando es muy bueno el arreglo que hicieron.
El trabajo instrumental es tan bueno que disfruto muchísimo la obra, a pesar de la voz de Charly que está a mi entender muy deteriorada.
Casi podría decir que Charly podría no haber cantado en este disco y daba lo mismo. Pero sin dudas así como pienso eso también debo decir que es un genio compositor, un grande, y sin él no existiría este unplugged.

Le daria una galaxia entera a este album, pero me permiten darle solamente cinco estrellas. Y bueno. . . aunque quizas no haga falta empezar esta resena desde una perspectiva "psicologica", creo que por lo menos se puede mencionar algo acerca del caracter "tempestuoso" (o "atormentado" o "rallado" o "genio" o "loco, !?de donde lo sacas?!") de Charly para demostrar lo espectacular que es este album. Simplemente dicho, este album es uno de la "**ta madre". Una de las razones a que se debe la calidad tremenda de "Charly Garcia Unplugged" es la abilidad del musico de salir, con un "panache" impresionante, de sus etapas mas "bravas" y de volver una y otra vez a asombrar con su genio. Algunos han dicho que tiene nueve vidas; yo creo mas bien que tiene por lo menos nueve mil. Surgio (?resurgio?) en 1995 con este concierto "unplugged", despues de un periodo "dificil" (como dicen algunos criticos del rock), y comprobo que todavia tenia guardado un secreto o dos. . . Bueno, 15 secretos en este caso; este album contiene 15 temas. Muchas veces me habia preguntado (y estoy segura de que no sere la unica) como se escucharia la musica de Charly "stripped down" (como se dice en ingles), que es la base de un concierto "unplugged". No es un concierto cualquiera; el "unplugged set" demuestra (o no) el puro talento de un artista, a causa de ser un concierto muy intimo, y sin demasiada pretencion o produccion. Charly se destaca (?redestaca?) como el musico extraordinario que es en este album, y las canciones que presenta, de una manera sumamente personal y intima, demuestran una belleza natural y conmovedor. No encuentro ni un solo tema "flojo" en "Charly Unplugged", cosa seria, porque en general surgen en un concierto "unplugged" por lo menos dos o tres "problemitas". Bueno, es cierto que a Charly se le escapan algunas letras, pero esto no dana el valor de la musica; al contrario, pienso que le dan un toque aun mas fuerte y sincero a las canciones. Todo el album me parece esplendido, pero los temas que mas se destacan a mis oidos son "Rezo por vos", "Seru Giran Medley: Eiti Leda/Viernes 3 A.M.", "Cerca de la revolucion", "No soy un extrano", y mas que todos, "Los dinosaurios" (que me animo a decir es la version mejor, la mas intensa, de todas las que he escuchado). Charly canta con una ganas barbara, con una emocion tan intensa que deslumbra, y los musicos que lo acompanan son buenisimos. Por ejemplo, Erica di Salvo toca un violin fuera de serie en "No soy un extrano", y el tango que aparece por la mitad de este tema me sacude el alma. Maria Gabriela Epumer es la musica mas notable en "Charly Unplugged"; tenia un talento tan impresionante. . . Bueno, tengo que recomendar este album no solamente a los fanaticos de Charly (me imagino que la mayoria de ellos ya lo deben tener), sino tambien a todos que aprecian el genio (y el tormento del genio) musical. No basta con decir que Charly es un genio (que ya se ha dicho con mucha frecuencia); quizas ni bastan las palabras para explicar la rareza de su talento. "The music speaks for itself", como dice el refran en ingles. Y la musica grabada del concierto "Charly Unplugged" tiene mucho para decir. Si alguien esta considerando comprar este album, tengo que insistir que no lo piense dos veces; esta coleccion de canciones es maravillosa, cosa seria, de la "**ta madre". . . !Aguante el rock argentino! este es uno de las mejores producciones de Charly Garcia. Los temas han sido interpretados con una maestria unica teniendo como ayuda el don de improvisacion del cantante. Cabe resaltar que en esta producion se encuentra dinosaurios interpretada con una genialidad unica, siendo una de las mejores versiones de la ya famosa cancion. Es un disco infaltable en la coleccion de todo buen fanatico de Charly Garcia y de todo buen amante de la musica.

SAY NO MORE, sobre Charly. El Unplugged es el mejor CD que tiene. La falta de su voz no es un empedimento para disfrutar el CD, esta bien acompañada por Ma Gabriela Epumer, quien tiene una voz escepcional. El CD es increible y riquisimo para escuchar. Que pena que no lo vendan en DVD.

El problema con Charly es que sinceramente NO PUEDE cantar en vivo.Ya casi no tiene voz y tiene la maldita costumbre de hablar en medio de las canciones (no se en este disco,nunca lo escuché).Si quieren empezar a conocer a Garcia les recomiendo Piano Bar o Parte de La Religion (el mejor disco de Charly para mis oidos),los cuales muestran a un Charly extremadamente lúcido.Pero este Unplugged es decididamente una basura,aunque creo que los cd's se pueden devolver,no?

Yo soy un fan brasileño de Charly. Estaba procurando la clásica Rezo Por Vos, pero PDLR tiene mucho más. La Ruta..., Rap de las Hormigas (con Paralamas), No Voy en Tren, Buscando um Símbolo de Paz (con Paula Toller) e Necesito tu Amor son grandes canciones. El album, todavía, deja un poco a desear en ciertos momentos, especialmente cuando comparado a la trilogia Yendo..., Clics Modernos e Piano Bar, records perfectos del princípio al fin.

This was my first exposure to the music of Charly garcia. And what an album it is! This is one of those rare gems in which ALL of the songs are actually GOOD! Recorded in Brazil in 1987, cooperating with Garcia are well known Argentine and Brazilian artists Paralamas, Fabiana cantilo, and Luis Alberto SPinetta. A classic of the rock en espanol genre. Today the CD sounds a little dated, but the music will NEVER DIE! GRAB THIS ALBUM TODAY!
PS: Stay Away from anything he ever recorded between 1991 and 2003. That's when he entered his kirk cobain phase: crappy music for foolish teenyboppers.

Parte de la Religion: an essential part of Rock's best works.......2005-02-10

I learned about Charly Garcia late in my High School years. Though I didn't really GET into his music until later, this was the earliest I caught a glimpse of the work of this musical genius. This album, recorded by Charly before he "lost it" (like a Syd Barrett of sorts), is packed with gems. It's one of those precious moments in Rock en Español. One very long moment that doesn' die out all through the album. From "Necesito tu Amor", into "Buscando un Simbolo de Paz" and the title track, including tracks where he accompanies himself by Brazilian rock grands, Paralamas, and almost alternating between upbeat and more quiet songs all through to the warm "La Ruta del Tentempie", the album can only grow on you. You will find yourself (Spanish-speaking or not) humming the tunes, some of rock's best tunes just about anywhere, wondering where has this awesome artist been all your life.

Now, if you know Charly, you know what I am talking about. Recorded in 1987, "Parte de la Religion" is probably the last brilliant album Charly recorded before entering a long obscure period, during which he stopped making much sense, he lost quite a bit of his voice and his sanity due to drugs and alcohol abuse. Still, "Parte..." will remain an essential part of Rock's best works forever.

Parece un disco medio olvidado pero es im-pre-sio-nan-te!!!
Es el cuarto disco solista de Charly García, del año 1987 (si no contamos el maxi-simple "Terapia intensiva", y es sorprendente la cantidad de ideas musicales, la instrumentación, el sonido, las melodias. Los temas inoxidables que escribe, la forma de tocar y de cantar son inimitables.
El uso de los teclados y las maquinas es inusual, usa en la mayoria de los temas el clasico Yamaha DX-7 lo que le da un sonido particular al disco, lo interesante es escuchar como usa los sonidos y como los graba.
Por ejemplo en "Parte de la Religion", "Adela en el carrousel", "El karma de vivir al sur", todos temas llenos de modernidad, inteligencia musical, bien tocados, bien grabados. Garcia consigue en este y todos sus discos un sonido muy particular dentro de Latinoamerica, muy dificil de imitar. Despues de "Parte de la religion" grabo la música para una peícula, "Lo que vendrá", tambien título del disco. Es interesante ir escuchando los discos en orden cronológico, aunque si nunca escucharon a Charly este es un excelente disco para comenzar.

Better than "El Aguante", but still in the pits..........2005-07-15

OK, by now some of you are probably wondering how you can complain to Amazon to get rid of me because I am insulting a national treasure or putting down a great artist such as Carlos Alberto Garcia. truth be told, if I write a bad review of an album its only because I feel I should warn other consumers not to support truly bad music, con artists, or a public ripoff, such as this CD and a few others in this man's checkered career. To be fair, this album is actually better than a few of his previous ones, but he is nowhere the level of artistic maturity he should be at at this point in his career. There's acouple of catchy tunes (i'll let you find them yourself), and failing to coax Ringo (neither paul nor Yoko would return his calls), he conned Tony Sheridan to perform a duo on one of the tracks here. I guess Pete Best was too busy touring to phone in his drumming. No matter. It would have been an improvement on this album. Had Yoko sang on it, it probably would have sold as a novelty, but I digress... Conclusion: He's getting better all the time... but I'd skip this one and wait for the eventual "greatest hits" as soon as he dies. It won't be long (yeah yeah yeah yeah...!)

Charly is Back.......2004-02-10

Influencia marks the great return of the King (or should I say father?) of Spanish Rock. After Hija de la Lagrima, Charly produced some chaotic records, playing around with styles. Influencia is sort of a Concept Album, showcasing his mastery of different styles.

Todd Rungren's Influenza is the basis of 2 versions, but those lyrics and the way of playing it makes it look like if it was Charly's own.

There are some old songs resurrected here and given a facelift, like Encuentro con el Diablo & Happy and Real (from Tango 4).

If you're new to Charly, I would start here. It is modern, powerful and genius.

este fue el primer disco en solista de charly garcia que compré y definitivamente es uno de los mejores de este genio del rock sudamericano. en la primera parte "pubis angelical" originalmente grabada como soundtrack de la película del mismo nombre , canciones como trans atlantico art deco nos muestran la genialidad de say no more en los teclados , ratificandolo como el mejor instrumentista argentino . Ya en la parte del " yendo de la cama al living" , la calidad lirica de canciones como yendo de la cama al living , superheroes , canción de 2 x 3 , yo no kiero volverme tan loco , no bombardeen buenos aires etc . simplemente enamoran el oido de cualkier amante del buen rock . Si eres nuevo en todo lo ke tiene ke ver con el gran charly garcia no dudes en compralo , de ninguna manera te arrepentiras!!!

In 1983 all Argentina was at the verge of a total moral collapse. The militar government led the nation in a war against England for the possesion of the Malvinas Islands -no, not Falkland-, and curiously, the army's popularity went up no matter how many cases of tortured and dissapeared oppositors were. For dictator Videla, the good communist is the dead one.

Charly García was not a communist but he had a mind of his own and he criticized the government, of course. Thieves in army suits killing everyone who opposed them. Killing people by any means. García, wisely, was keeping his mouth shut and getting his ammo ready for this 1983 release, his best solo album ever and a masterpiece in Latin pop that everybody should consider as a reference point.

He was a member of two of the most important rock bands in Argentina before the revolution of Soda Stereo in the eighties: Sui Generis and Seru Giran in the seventies. He created a personal "solo" band with Pablo Guyot on Guitar, Willy Iturri on Drums and Alfredo Toth on Bass -these three guys later called themselves GIT and became a popular rock trio with few albums and mediocre music-, invited some friends like Alberto Spinetta and Pedro Aznar -for the great "Peluca Telefónica" and sang with Leon Gieco what is probably the best latin rock song ever, "Yo no quiero Volverme Tan Loco", a plea for peace of mind in the middle of a battle that nobody on the rest of the world cared about.

Argentina and specially Buenos Aires as a society were correctly described in this album. Everybody likes to listen to the U.K's Clash, but they're so afraid to be bombed in any moment by the British Army ("No Bombardeen Buenos Aires") that they hide on bomb-shelters. Charly recalls the times of Eva Perón, the Beatles, Gardel, the Argentinian Beef Steak and simply creates a masterpiece.

This record was something raw and messy, sung in spanish, that most of the latin american radios weren't ready to receive. An urban funk sound emerging from downtown Buenos Aires, colored with melancholic sounds and attempts of copying classical music. "Canción de 2x3" is an amazing Elton-John-alike song with pure poetry about childhood, loneliness and pain; while the guitar playing reminds us of sweet relief. Charly yawns at the beginning of the title track, a chant about lazyness and slackery that gets deep into us. Sleeping in a Bed of Roses. The hidden message: the slothness of argentinian people who did nothing to fight the dictatorship. Well, they could have been killed.

"Yendo De la Cama al Living" is probably one of the greatest pop albums ever recorded in Argentina, and it's a pleasure to have it here. Get it while it's hot! It's pure politics, love and pain. The kind of stuff we like to get our kicks in.

This is the second album released by Charly Garcia after he started his career as a solo artist. He had come from three superbands: Sui Generis, La Maquina de Hacer Pajaros and Seru Giran. In all three, he helped give shape to what later would be known as Rock en Español.

Clics Modernos, in this remastered edition reissued in Argentina in 2004, has a very eighties feel to it, with beats coming straight out of a rhythm box, coupled with some of the most outstanding musicianship around at the time. Some of the musicians on it, Garcia included, were quite simply the best at their art. One good example of this is Pedro Aznar, who plays bass in several of the tracks. Having played with Garcia in Seru Giran, he later went on to pursue a very succesful solo career and worked alongside artists such as Pat Metheny.

There are no weak musical moments throughout the album, but if forced to pick, I'd say the closing three tracks, starting with the touching "Los Dinosaurios" and wrapping with the warm "Ojos de Video Tape" are among the best works by Charly ever. The lyrics to "Los Dinosaurios" used to bring tears to my eyes even before the recent passing of my dad, when he sings "la persona que amas puede desaparecer" (the person you love may dissapear).

To make it easy for those who are not aware of what this is all about, one word sums it all up fairly well: perfection! Get it.

Este disco es emblematico. Los 80's comenzaban y Garcia sabia que toda la musica que tenia en la cabeza debia procesarla en otro lado y no en Buenos Aires. Se fue y grabo guitarras con Larry Carlton y respiro NYC como solo Garcia puede hacerlo. Nos abrio la cabeza a todos los jovenes (una vez mas ) y nos canto
" ... conozco esta ciudad, no es como en los diarios desde alla ..."
En "Los dinosaurios" se anticipo al fin de la etapa mas tragica de la historia argenta y con "Bancate ese defecto" nos ayudo a buscar palabras para manejar la ironia " ... no es culpa tuya si la nariz no hace juego con tu cara ..."
No puedo nada mas que alabar este disco que , de principio a fin, es excelente. Tiene riffs gloriosos y todos los tracks son obras maestras.
A agregarlo en Wish List y luego, comprarlo sin dudas.
