3 out of 5 stars Ok...where should i start with this??.......2005-10-05

When I bought this Hard drive, it was to plug in with my desktop that only had 12 gigs of hard drive space, thrown along with it another hard drive which was 40 gigs. Now it is being plugged into my new deskop which i had for a little over a year now.

I love the speed of this thing when it transfers data. But then as months went by, I started to see the flaws in the product.

1. It started to make this really loud spinning noise like that you hear when you boot up your lap top.

2. There isn't a way to even disconnect the drive from my computer anymore. You know that little icon that has a green arrow at the bottom right task bar to tell you if you wanted to disconnect it the safe way? yeah. that one. nope, doesn't even work anymore, it always tells me that there is an error message that it can't disconnect at the moment and try again later. 1 hours later, still the same error message, and then half and hour still the same. you get my drift? the only way to turn it off is to yank out the power cord which i really really hate doing cause i know that will damage it in the future.

3. This is where the HUGE problem comes in. I can't even seem to turn off the drive by pushing the little on off button anymore. I mean yeah, i was able to before when i got it all new, but then after several months? this should not have happened.

I love my drive and all, since i got used to the problems that it comes with. I just hope it doesn't fail on me.

other then that it is pretty light to carry around and i love the sleek looking design, i just put it right on top of my desktop computer since the USB cable is really short and it won't even reach up to my table, and i am not comfortable in putting on on the floor since kicking will occur, leading to broken hard drive.

I gave this product 3 stars cause it served its purpose pretty well for the year and a half use.

5 out of 5 stars Value for my Euro.......2005-08-01

I live in The Netherlands, and picked an iomega 160 GB USB 2.0 up today for EUR 119 (~ $ 143 US ). I thought it was a good price, which is what compared favourably with the nearly identical LaCie 160 GB HDD . With my iBook OS X , set-up was a snap. The black shell looks a bit incongruous with the sleek white of my ibook - but it works like a charm and is pretty quiet. Good buy.

2 out of 5 stars Very disappointed.......2005-07-29

Given the # of good reviews, I bought the 160 GB and am in Day 3 of trying to get it to work. Part of that time was 24 hours of THINKING that it was working (blue light flashing, pop-up window reporting that files were being transferred), but I don't think that the drive would ever have stopped. When I finally tried to Cancel the operation; it hung my computer (couldn't CTRL-ALT-DEL it; I couldn't even turn the computer off -- I had to unplug the computer!; then, it took 2 tries to get it to boot up again correctly). I will spend some MORE time on the support web site; the "manual" is indeed useless & apparently inaccurate. I'm afraid that I have a lemon here.

5 out of 5 stars Easy to use and environmentally friendly.......2005-07-09

I use this drive as a backup for several computers at work. I just plug it into the wall and into the USB port, the computer recognizes it, I drag and drop, and the backup is done.

The inside packing material in the box is pressed cardboard with compartments for the drive and cables, which is not only handy when you store it in the box and only take it out once a week for backup, but is environmentally friendly and doesn't leave pieces of styrofoam all over the place.

5 out of 5 stars Efficient and easy.......2005-07-07

I first bought an Iomega 250 mb external zip drive at a price something around $70. Since that purchase Iomega has proven to provide reliable and inexpensive product. I went ahead and bought the external hard drive to back up files and for the convience of extra storage space. I have yet to encounter the slightest of difficulty. The instruction manual, albeit meager, it can be regarded as obsolete. Just take the drive out of the package plug it in and you are ready to go. However, I am using it with a desktop and not laptop, so some of the concerns regarding its laptop performance must be heeded before purchasing it. But if you have a desktop and you are desiring inexpensive storage capacity, I would say go for it. You are unlikely to encounter any troubleshooting, as I have not had the slightest of troubles.
