Design
The VX8600 features a super-sleek clamshell design with a large 176 x 220 color display and support for a whopping 262,000 colors--plenty of room for V Cast content. A generous, full-color 160 x 128 full-color supplementary screen on the outside of the cover displays incoming call information, battery life, signal strength, graphics, photos, and more. Music playback control keys are also located on the front cover. Most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's backlit control pad. The VX8600 also features a MicroSD slot for expandable memory. Bluetooth support for handsfree devices and Bluetooth stereo headset support for listening to Music on the VX8600's advanced music player are also included. Meanwhile, up/down keys are located on the side of the unit, as is the memory slot, and a 1.3-megapixel camera unit is housed on the front of the clamshell. Lastly, USB data connectivity is built right into the phone.

Calling Features
The VX8600 boasts powerful calling functions, such as speaker independent voice dialing, which makes it easy to call contacts by simply saying their names. No prior voice training is required and you can even speak individual digits to the phone for quick dialing of numbers you know by heart. And because the 8600 is Bluetooth enabled, wireless headsets can be configured with the phone for total handsfree operation.

The VX8600's internal memory can hold up to 500 contacts for quick access to email addresses and phone numbers. The phone lets you easily assign pictures as well as ringtones to your most common callers. In addition to vibrating alerts, the phone supports polyphonic ringtones, and a number of ringtones come preloaded on the phone. More ringtones can be downloaded from Verizon's Get It Now service. Lastly, the VX8600's GPS location technology pinpoints your exact location when you dial 911.

Messaging, Internet, and Tools
The phone's support for multimedia messaging means that text, photos, video, and audio can be sent with ease (Verizon messaging charges apply). When used in combination with the VX8600's built-in camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. There's also a built-in Web browser for downloads and mobile Web browsing. Verizon's optional Mobile Web 2.0 package allows you to read and send emails, exchange instant messages, and view your favorite Web content on your phone. You can check your email, trade stocks online, compare prices while shopping, access flight information, get movie listings, and find directions to the theater. T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

If desired, the onboard GPS feature can do more than give your current location to emergency personnel. The VX8600 is fully compatible with Verizon's VZ Navigator service, a feature that provides all the bells and whistles of an advanced navigation system on your mobile phone at a fraction of the price of other GPS devices and systems. The VZ Navigator service provides heads-up, voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions (with auto-rerouting if you miss a turn), local search of nearly fourteen million points of interest (POIs) in the United States, and detailed color maps that can be quickly panned and zoomed. With VZ Navigator, you'll know where you are, know what's around you, and know how to get there fast (additional Verizon charges apply).

A number of handy software tools are bundled with the VX8600 including a voice memo recorder that can record calls, a calculator, a calendar, and an alarm clock. You can even set the alarm to wake you to your favorite music.

Imaging and Entertainment
The VX8600's 1.3-megapixel camera features a digital zoom, a self-timer, night-mode functions, and brightness and white balance controls. The camera also offers video capture capabilities, meanwhile, a built-in music player lets you keep your music playing in the background. You can also take advantage of the VX8600's Bluetooth wireless headset capability, allowing you to hook up a pair of Bluetooth stereo headphones.

Verizon's music service is another EV-DO-powered service that makes the VX8600 all the more desirable. With V Cast music, your phone is a music player, letting you jam out wherever you are. It's also a music store, and you can download songs instantly to your phone. Save your songs to a memory card with a capacity that's right for you. You can even pause to take a call without missing a beat.

With support for the EV-DO high-speed data standard, the VX8600 is fully compatible with Verizon's V Cast service. With V Cast, you can download and stream high-quality video. Need news and weather? Get the latest Accuweather forecast delivered right to your handset, or stream CNN news headlines. ESPN sports updates, entertainment news from E!, and even Sesame Street content for the kids, are all available. Short and simple Review.......2007-06-30

I am neither resentful of the product or hyper-actively excited about it either.

First, the phone looks pretty, but if you want to protect it and keep the (easily scratched and smudged surface) phone looking at its best, you should buy a clear protective case or other cover to protect it...which hides its beauty anyway.

Second, I am very displeased with the speaker (which includes the ringer). It is very weak, and in a semi-noisy environment, the phone needs to be up by my ear to hear it--even with full volume output.
Also, ringer tones can not be used from mp3 files, even the ones u transfer from your microSD card. This is Verizon's way of 'control' and trying to get people to use their services. Forget that!

Third, the phone's menus (especially navigating the to and in the music) lack intuition. They are difficult to navigate till you have gone through them all several times. And it is not necessarily universal with all LG phones.

Forth, the phone was not backwards compatible with my USB 1.1 bluetooth headset. I will have to spend about $50 or more to obtain a new one.

Recommendations: Honestly, I miss my old Motorola E815 phone that was stolen, and that I could not get a replacement from Verizon. If I was to stick with Verizon after my contract expires, I would say that I would go with a similar phone from Moto (none of the AZR's). Otherwise, I would go with the iphone.
My friends have both the Razr and Krazr, and the Krazr is (in my own humble opion) a phone that outperforms this particular phone.

Loud, hard to read and annoying speakerphone.......2007-06-30

Ok, this phone is pretty sleek looking. It has an amazing art screensaver wallpaper that blows my mind. The wallpaper is awesome, but I'm still going to go trade this phone in.

I have 3 major problems with this phone:

-the earpiece is so loud even on the lowest setting. we aren't all hard of hearing but I think everyone at LG must be.

-I had to google how to turn on the speaker-phone (it's not in the manual) and it can only be activated when in a call. Unlike the earpiece the speaker-phone is really quiet.

-You cannot read the screen in the sun very well. It's possible at the right angle.

I'm going to try the Samsung u740. I hope it's better. I'm going to miss that van gogh and other artists wallpaper though.

Nice design, size.......2007-06-28

I needed a new cell phone right away and after researching www.bestbuy.com I ran out to by this version of the LG. It's a very sleek phone and easily fits in your jeans pocket. The interface is fairly intuitive. My biggest complaints are that the sound quality seems a bit subpar and the lowest volume setting for the earpiece isn't low enough. But overall, I'm pretty happy with the phone.

Love / Hate relationship.......2007-06-26

I have to say that I love this phone (in concept). It is very sleek. It has a great MP3 player. I find it very easy to use. The battery life is really good too.

The only problem is that it keeps breaking on me!

Phone number 1 purchased in December of 2006 had a malfunctioning vibrate mode. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. This phone was returned to the store after about 3 months of service.

Phone number 2 had ridiculously bad reception even in areas that I once got excellent reception. This phone dropped calls more often than I would have successful calls. It was reprogrammed once by Verizon without any beneficial outcome, unless random power-cycles are considered beneficial. Within the month, I returned this phone.

Phone number three has been with me since around May. The reception on this phone has been exceptional! Unfortunately, after a little over a month or so of use the external speaker has started to sound muffled and rattled as if the paper cone on an acoustic speaker was torn. If this were the only problem... I would probably live with this phone. Unfortunately, the original problem of a defective vibrate mode has cropped up once again. I would live with this defect too except I have missed some very important phone calls. Sigh...

At least Verizon has been a good sport about returning these defective phones... but what a pain!

All in all... I really, truly, love this phone (when it works right). :-(

An Honest Review from an actual VX8600 owner.......2007-06-21

Let me start this review by saying I'm not a tween and a phone's looks aren't all I care about. I've had this phone for less than a week and I'm going to be trading it in for the VX8300.

Let's get this out of the way, the phone is nice looking. Probably the best looking Verizon phone available. Unfortunately most of us don't use a phone for its looks. It does have all sorts of nice features which you can read about in the product description provided by amazon.

My issues with phone are these. It has a speakerphone but it is absolutely useless. Toggling between speakerphone and earpiece produce minimal difference. I use the speakerphone in my car, this one is practically unusable. Volume of the earpiece is super loud, this can be a pro or a con. However, I often got an echo when I talked, sort of tunnel like. Never had that problem with any of my othe phones

Perhaps the most bothersome thing about the phone is the strange high frequency pitch you can hear when you put your ear. Whenever the screen is on, either lit or not you can hear a high pitch buzzing. After the screen goes blank it disapears. I had thought it was a defective phone but all 4 of the display models at the verizon store had the same issue. Now it may not bother you but it's like a mosquito buzzing to me. The vx8300 doesn't have this problem. On a side note one of the 2 display KRZRs in the store had the same problem.

One final thought...LG doesn't use the standard size headphone jack so unless you got bluetooth you need to plug in a lame dongle which in my opinion defeats the purpose of portability
