I Love This Printer.......2007-01-20

This is the best everyday printer on the market. I have bought three of them in the past. I really hope they do not take this printer out of productions. It's reliable, efficient and QUIET... Love it HP!

Beware.......2007-01-03

I have owned nothing but HP for as long as I've been printing and minus a few problems they sufficed. So it is sad to see how much of a dive this printer has taken from its predecessors. I recommended this printer to the office I worked at and upon its arrival we were delighted to use it. This enthusiasm quickly faded as its many problems began to emerge.

Out of 1/2 of the prints sent through it maybe only half come out correctly. This is frustrating if you have a deadline to meet and the only thing preventing you from sending out the work is the printer. These problems mostly seem to stem from using the rear manual feed (since we use heavy stock photo paper). There really is an annoying process of putting in the paper in at exactly the right time or else it will be spit out several times. Also, if you notice an error in a print and you have to cancel it this also leads to possible print errors which usually end in the printer shooting out many 8.5x11 pages of garbage. You figure for the price you shouldnt have to deal with so many problems.

We have since moved on to an Epson 11x17 and minus the high consumption of ink it has proven to be much better. Shop around before you buy and allow for the possibility of changing companies.

HP Says They Still Have Support for the CP1700..........2006-04-01

I am currently dealing with a printer that is printing weird little hash marks across straight lines at random. We first were getting messages to change the print heads and would do so, only to have it keep telling us we needed to change the print heads. Then we could "trick it" by opening and shutting the cover a few times and we could get a few more prints out of it, before the message would come back, which by the way makes it so you can't keep printing. 6 months ago, we tried to print off color brochures and the colors were horrible--so that wasn't going to work. We also are experiencing blue ghost like things around text and objects when trying to print out autocad files. :P

Our CP1700 has been a work horse on just black and white 11x17 prints for several years now. But now it is just being a BRAT! The ink is expensive, the noise is high, and the speed is ok. We have had decent luck with it until now. Everyone advises to just toss it, but it's hooked up to our network and I hate to have to start all the circus acts to get a new printer hooked up and running CORRECTLY from everyone's computer.

I called HP today and they offered support on the phone for 39.00 for up to 5 days of support--they said I can call as much as I want during that time. I hope it works--I need to get this baby up and running again. Updates to come....

Does this thing come with a hamster inside?.......2006-02-09

We use this printer at my work, and those of us who have a desk in the same room as the printer hate it! This printer has been squeaking so loudly that we joke and tell customers that we have a hamster running on a wheel inside of it. The customers can hear the printer squeaking in the background when they call in. The squeaking is so loud that it is hard to hear on the phone when it is running. The print quality is not very impressive, either. I have one at home by HP that cost a 10th of what this piece of junk did, and the quality on my printer is much better.

No one seems to have any solutions for getting rid of the unbearable squeaking, other than to throw the whole thing into the garbage dumpster.

Where do I begin?

I have been a loyal HP user since beginning of time. I had a 1120C which is still working rear feed(the roller failed of course, but it's 6 years old. When I upgraded to CP1700 I had high expectation, but to my disappointment, the nightmare begins!

First I was sold on the fact that it's 4 seperate cartridge, hence lower printing prices. But I notice each colour runs out as quick as the tri-colour single cartridge. SO all of a sudden I am paying 4 times for cartridge of what I use to pay. (plus spares!)

Then the photo quality is actually worstthen the 1120 printer! In the normal mode, all these white line will appear, so you can only get a decent photo print on best mode, which is stupid!
And the colour accurency is also worst then before

And don't get me started on the HP technical support! NO ONE, I mean NO ONE from the technical support can offer any technical support, since HP has out-sourced their support to 3rd world country. Every question you ask, they put you on on hold for 15mins, then get back to you with a case number, and then tell you to bring it to the service centre. And if it's after the warranty period, they won't answer any question, unless you pay $33 for the technical support, but even then, they still can't answer the question

And I started to have problems with the printer after 1 year, and now almost 2.5 years later, the "foot-clutch" (roller) needs to be replaced and was told that HP don't even make that spare parts anymore. SO HP just expects their customer to buy a new machine everytime there is a problem with the machine

The only thing it has going for it is the speed is ok. HP is just not worth supporting anymore!

Not bad, not great, but would avoid HP in the future.

I did not have some of the problems others had with this printer. Some folks had disastrous results. Mine worked OK for a few years. Now it's dead with the dreaded "pump stall." My two biggest disappointments were that I did NOT get my money's worth (I don't do a lot of printing). And HP no longer supports this printer (there's no one I can call at HP) and of HP's recommended service sites in my area, one doesn't service it and the other said (I'm quoting), "Are you near a trash can, because it's not worth repairing." Would he recommend another HP? "No, sorry." Yeesh!

Other issues:
When I restarted the Mac in the morning, I had to restart the printer, too, or the HP didn't know it was still connected to the Mac. It's like it became lost.

Color print quality was adequate, perhaps not as good as Epson or Canon.

Handled tabloid paper just fine (which is an option I needed), but was finicky with envelopes. And of the two envelope guides, only one actually could touch the envelopes, meaning they didn't always feed straight.

Would add color to black and white prints, even if the image was black and white and I told the HP software to print black and white.

Display is not back-lit and is hard to read.

Software communication with the Macintosh was amateurish, requiring a lot of hand holding just to print a page.
