An optional Rapid Wind Grip makes handling and advance easier. The Mamiya 645E offers a level of professional quality in an affordable system that's perfect for taking the step-up to enhanced image creation. It has the basic tools that make medium format ideal for going beyond simple snapshots, packaged into a camera that's easy to use, yet capable of growing with you as you hone your photographic capabilities and creative sense. Mamiya designed the 645E to accept the same interchangeable lenses available for the entire 645 series (except 645AF lenses). This means the photographer on a budget doesn't have to compromise optical performance, and can continue using the same fine lenses when upgrading to a more advanced camera body with interchangeable film magazines. The Mamiya 645E offers a level of professional quality in an affordable system that's perfect for taking the step-up to enhanced image creation. Customer Reviews:
Great Price Great Lenses.......2005-08-03
I have purchased two of these cameras. In hindsight, I really should have gone with the 645 Pro TL. But the price was right, I'm a photograhpher on a budget. The purchase price gets one star. Mamiya lenses for this camera are, in my opinion, the finest. But:
1. The rubber eye cup is made from the cheapest possible materials. It leaves a black ring around your eye. What's that black ring around your eye? Oh, my camera does that when I look through the view finder. Wonderful touch when photographing a wedding.
2. The SLR mirror carries an awful lot of energy moving out of the way when you trip the shutter. Mamiya says this is normal in the SLR camera design, but of all my cameras, this one jumps the most. Whenever possible, use the mirror up lever to avoid blurring caused by camera movement induced by the mirror especially from 1/4, 1/8, and 1/15.
3. The back of the camera likes to open at the slightest jar. I treat all my cameras with the care deserving of precision instruments. That said, I'll set my tripod down with the camera mounted and pop, the back opens. Incidentally, the extra light on the current frame is definately noticeable. I'll advance a frame or two to get unexposed film from the 120 roll, take a photo, move to my next position, and pop it opens again. Another wonderful little design element to help ruin most of the pictures on a roll. I now make absolutely certain I'm holding the back closed before setting down the tripod with the camera attached.
This camera is made in China and it shows it.
That's not the 645E manual, but Mamiya is good stuff........2004-05-24
The manual that Amazon linked on this page is for the Mamiya 645 Pro, which is a lot more camera than the 645E. Having the 645 Pro manual is misleading here. The 645E is not modular like the 645 Pro, though to be fair the 645AF isn't either.
Anyway, Mamiya makes amazing lenses (including the one that comes with this kit). The 645E lets you mount them for relatively little money. That's what it's worth.
