Product Description

Olevia by Syntax takes LCD TV performance to an newer viewing level for crystal clear viewing at angles up to 178 degrees. A Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panel is made up of liquid crystal material, which arranges itself to either let light pass through or not. Each pixel contains the three primary colors?red, green and blue. Traditional Liquid Crystal material allows for direct viewing, but at wide viewing angles the image is distorted. TN liquid crystal molecules when switching ?on' and ?off,' tilt out of the viewable plane (see Fig 1- TN Mode). When the display is viewed at an angle, the brightness, contrast and color distorts. With IPS mode, the liquid crystal molecules undergo a switching mode that keeps the molecules within the viewable plane (see Fig 1 - IPS Mode). The result is that light passing through; whether in ?on' or ?off' position is not distorted or altered when viewed in any angle as opposed to TN mode. This is what allows brightness, contrast and color to remain constant especially at wide viewing angles. Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars My Experience - Mixed Bag.......2007-02-28

I bought this tv about 18 months ago and have been very happy with it.

I have and HTPC hooked up via VGA-in and had no trouble with the setup (losing a few pixels at 1368 x 768). I use an ATI X700 Pro graphics card. I've gotten it to work with dvi as well, but strange red tones show up when I go above 1280x720.

I have a high def cable box plugged into the DVI in - outputing 1080i. It works perfectly except that when you turn the box off without unplugging it, it gives an HDCP error - don't know if that is a Syntax or TimeWarner problem

I have a Nintendo wii hooked up via component cables - at 480p - looks great

So, it is definitely a versatile tv - the picture is great - no dead pixels or color issues at all. The remote is a bit pitiful but it does the job once you get used to its odd logic (the right button on the remote is enter instead of the center button).

I should note that about a month before my warranty expired the power supply for the tv blew and the unit stopped working. Syntax was really great about immediately shipping a replacement and sending return shipping labels to me, but it did make me nervous. What if it had happened a month later?

So, there it is. It's a great tv with a word of caution from my personal experience. Take it as a single anecdote and be aware that it is a new name on the market (though I think the solid customer service is a direct result of this). In the end you get what you pay for. I don't regret this purchase at all.

4 out of 5 stars good TV for the money .......2007-01-24

I saw this TV at Circuit City and was able to compare it to other TVs before I purchased it. The picture is good - it didn't blow me away - but it is good, especially for the price. I thought the sound was fine. You should really get a home theater system to get the full effect of HDTV anyway. Word of advice - purchase it from Circuit City and get the Advantage protection plan. Even if one pixel goes out, they will replace the entire TV, unlike Syntax Olevia who requires at least six pixels to go out before replacing it. Their protection plan is MUCH better than the manufacturer's (they will even come work on it in your home) - AND you can return the TV if you're not satisfied, unlike big screen purchases from Amazon.

4 out of 5 stars Worried, but works........2006-12-09

Just thought I'd share a couple thoughts on this TV.

I've had this television for about 4 months. It has worked well to this point, but there are several things that are disappointing.

What is great about this TV is the DVI input. My computer looks pretty decent on it, though it isn't great for web surfing or anything unless you sit right in front of it. Gaming is fantastic if your video card can handle the resolution needed for the TV (1280x768,1024x768,or 1024x720). I couldn't get the 1366x768 to work on my computer.

The analog connections look horrible. Don't expect to use them. This TV is really for HD only.

The speakers make a subtle hissing noise when you have the volume above zero. It's miserable unless you have the volume loud enough to block it out. Overall, the speakers are terrible and should never be used.

In essence, I would recommend this TV as an overkill computer monitor. I wouldn't route any sound through it, nor would I watch anything analog. It really has to be high definition to be acceptable.

I'm a college student who decided to sell my 20" Dell 2001FP and buy this thing. It really was a mistake because I ended up never playing games on it, and it's miserable for typing papers and the like. If you plan on using this strictly as a TV, make sure you have high def cable or high def satellite and a stereo system to use for the sound.

There is only one dead pixel on the screen and I hardly ever notice it, but it is near the middle.

Finally, what worries me most is that many other people have had their set die on them after a year or so. I really wouldn't be surprised if it happened to me. You get what you pay for.

1 out of 5 stars Worst TV in the world is Syntex Olevia.......2006-12-01

I purchased this TV 18 months before and today it went off.
Suddenly picture became very light and nothing is visible on it, still
sound it coming. this is really very bad purchase in my life I would
never recommend any body to buy this TV even on lowest price. Company is
giving one year warranty and this TV is only made for 1 year.
I will request every buyer do not purchase this TV after all its your
wish if you want to west your money.

1 out of 5 stars Have to hit power twice.......2006-09-28

I have owned this TV for over a year and it drives me nuts! I have my cable box to pass through the signal to the TV so some channels are standard definition and some are 720p or 1080i. It takes a few seconds for the TV to switch between these resolutions which is annoying. My major problem with the unit is the fact that every time I turn it on I get no picture. I have to turn it back off again and wait a few seconds then turn it back on. The pictuer looks good in HD and the price was right but I just can't justify that with the incredible frustration I have with the power problem.
