The DD-7040 has all the features and performance of the DD-6040 plus the addition of DVD-RW Playback and DVD-Audio. This allows the DD-7040 to play the new six-channel, 24-bit audio discs that reduce noise and distortion to nearly immeasurable levels. It also provides six-channel analog output for direct connection to many AV receivers and can pass decoded Dolby Digital 5.1 audio along these same connections.

I haven't owned this DVD player, but I owned the model that this one replaced. I bought it partly because it was expensive, and wanted good quality, just as this model is expensive when compared with most of the other consumer models. In fact, the quality was poor. The unit kept locking up in the middle of playing a DVD. Sometimes the only way to unlock it was to unplus the player and restart the whole DVD. Sometime I had to do that many times. Sometimes we just had to give up. I bought a matching Mitsubishi VDR at the same time. It also gave me terrible problems, and didn't work right after a couple of months. Mitsubishi customer support was terrible. They offered no help at all. They didn't seem to care at all. I recommend that, for consumer quality products, you look to Sony products instead.
