Good Debut.......2004-11-10
debut after being heard for almost 10 years (1st on the Murder was the case
soundtrack) and being on a lot of fellow LBC rapper's albums &
compilations. Although lyrically he isn't the greatest, he makes a pretty
good CD. Features a few guest appearances but not as many as I hoped to see
from his ol' LBC homies. Doesn't talk about bad about any of the homies he
had falling out with but he does address them all on one song. Has one
great song (about rumors he was killed a couple years back) and the rest
are pretty good, good enough to listen through but not great. Only has 10
songs and too many skits (5) but a good CD to have for LBC fans.
#2 - 7.5
#3 - 8.5
#4 - 8.5 (f/ Daz & Quicktomac)
#5 - 8 (moderate production done by Tray Deee & Goldie Loc)
#7 - 9 (remake of 'who got some gangsta sh*t the first track he recorded on
from 'Murder was the Case Soundtrack'
#8 - 9 (f/ very impressive rapping skills by an unknown: Small Will??)
#10 - 10 (a classic - addressing the rumors he was murdered a little while
back)
#11 - 8
#12 - 9 (dedication to 2 of his dead homies)
#14 - 5 (f/ Speshyo)

BLACC BALLED Review!.......2004-02-22
"Blacc Balled" is not a bad start for Lil' Style. Most of the production work is handled by Style's in-house producer, C-O, but Fred Wreck blesses the title track with a real banger of a beat. On it, Style lets those who aren't familiar with his work know what the deal is. Lil' Style revisits an old classic and gives it an update for 2004 with "Who Got Some Gangsta S--t 2". He's not alone though as Daz shows up to spit a verse. Daz also guests on "Bounce Yo Ridahz" and handles the production work on "I Just Want to Fucc" which seems to sample Roger and Zapp's "Computer Love". Tha Eastsidaz, Tray Deee & Goldie Loc, show off their production skills on "G-Style", another absolute banger. You can hear the duo's influence all over this track as you can easily imagine them spitting a verse to this one. It's a shame that there isn't a little bit more Dogg Pound involvment on this album because Style seems to work real well with them.
"Blacc Balled" has some solid moments but it also has its share of problems. "Heard It Waz A Rumor" tackles the Internet gossip, most noteably the rumor that he had been murdered back in 2002, but the production and overall lyrical content never make this promising subject as interesting as it could be. The production is pretty good but the album as a whole could have used about three or four more solidly-produced tracks to beef it up. There really aren't any tracks that cater to Style's unique flow the way many fans would expect from his first solo. With only ten actual songs on this album, some might feel short-changed but on an overall vibe, this is a decent first record for Style.
Anyone expecting some real cross-over mainstream music shouldn't even bother with this LP. Fans of Style's work on underground classics like "Bustaz" and "Easy To Be A Solider" will find much to like here. Those looking for some raw underground LBC-style music should best be advised to pick this up. It's not the debut that a lot of people might expect from Style but it works enough to keep you from being dissapointed.
