If Andre is 3000, then his Dungeon Family cohort Cee-lo Green might be 3074. Green spends his studio time wisely for this sophomore solo release, forsaking current urban-music trends to explore what they might have been--or might still be. The soul-machine moniker fits Green well on "All Day Love Affair" as his addictive crooning complements some perfectly placed strings and a throwback horn arrangement. What Green didn't tell you is that he's also a well-oiled spoken word ("I Am Selling Soul," "Sometimes") and postmodern gospel ("Living Again") machine too. The track that might attract the most attention is "Glockappella," which finds this former Goodie Mobster dissing his former crew. Outside productions from the likes of Timbaland, Jazze Pha, the Neptunes, and DJ Premier help Green to capture the full gamut of black music. Sure, Green might be considered an acquired taste for consumers not attuned to the whiny, scat-style rap flows he employs on the mesmeric "Childz Play." And his duet with the Pharrell Williams ("Let's Stay Together") brings together two soul vocalists with few notes at their disposal. Still, eccentricities aside, Soul Machine offers an enjoyable sampling of one of rap's most underrated talents. --Dalton Higgins
Its creative because there is a little bit of something on there for everybody. My wife does not like much rap, but she even likes this cd. Check it out. Hotep!!
he stole my money. this album is crap + garbage + your nightmare. i'll never support Cee-Lo again ever.
i saw this fool on MTV sweet 16 show, and his voice wasn't so squeaky. as a matter of fact, he had this heavy voice that rappers have. but in this cd, he sings like a little girl and entire CD, he just tries to sing with this squeaky voice. obviously, Cee-Lo is trying to imitate someone elses' voice. his real voice isn't that squeaky. this album made my ear drum to bleed. WORST CD EVER!! TOGETHER WITH HIS PREVIOUS ALBUM!
i just wanna slap Cee-Lo if i get to see him. he ripped me off. just think about this one big chubby guy in the little studio trying to made this annoying squeaky voice that's not even his real voice.....and he even tries to rap, i find that real funny. Just search for all 1-star reviews!! they have the same opinion that i do!!
