Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal
"A rapper is a slick talker . . . we get paid to talk slick." Beverly Hills resident Ice-T shares his famous, highly controversial views in this audio program. This inflammatory opus is calculated to make money and get attention, like the other "outrageous" best-selling opinionheads, Rush Limbaugh ( The Way Things Ought To Be , Audio Reviews, LJ 10/15/92) and Howard Stern ( Private Parts , S. & S., 1993). Starting with the first line of the first chapter ("Who gives a fuck?"), the outmoded question, "Is there any redeeming social value?" begs to be asked. "I've managed to sum up my experiences as a rap artist in one word--interpretation. No two people process information the same way. They interpret information by funneling it through the agendas in their own heads." True. Librarians with small budgets should funnel this drivel through as a low priority.

From AudioFile
With great surprise--this Southern church-lady proffers earphones for Ice-T's work. The controversial rap singer reads his philosophy of social issues such as crime, education, drugs, marriage and religion. The philosophy is insightful, the logic is compelling, the reading articulate. In short, the program is excellent. Ice-T reads with a strong voice which backs his convictions. It forces white, middle-class listeners to reconsider values from the viewpoint of an alien culture. While the message will be disturbing to some listeners, the program's excellence warrants a broad audience. D.W.K. An AUDIOFILE Earphones Award winner (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
