More than just a straight nu-metal collection, Sonic Jihad is a journey, lyrically and musically, through human emotions. The luscious, slo-mo cinematic strains of "Casualty," with its dragging beats and Bond-esque strings, is an homage to longing. The Phil Spector-inspired production of "You and Your Friend" and the ultra hi-tech aching of the Cure's "Love Song" encapsulate love and obsession. And the concoction of drum & bass, cheesy lounge elements, and demonic guitars on "Somebody Hates You" makes a convincing stab at--not surprisingly--hate. And their distressed and blissfully aching cover of the Smiths' "How Soon Is Now" is nothing short of staggering. With femme fatale Tobey Torres vocals in the fore and the entire group creating drama and attitude, Sonic Jihad is the triumph of passion over technology. --Dan GennoeCustomer Reviews:

Comparisons aside, Sonic Jihad is an engaging CD from start to finish. Tobey is a great vocalist with a seemingly good voice (rarely does she go all out and sing), and has just enough attitude to keep things fresh. At times the music is nothing short of cartoonish, other times there are real signs of greatness. For me, I like this CD's more industrial moments than the others because on songs like those is when you see real potential in Tobey's voice. Aside from the absolutely wretched Somebody Hates You, this CD feels complete, like nothing was left out.
The covers included seem to get a lot of attention, and rightfully so, they make for some of the more standout songs included. SRC's take on The Cure's Lovesong was a nice freshening up of an already great song, and with the female vocals it almost feels like she gave the song a different perspective. How Soon Is Now? is the other cover and is probably one of my favorite songs featured. Jason did a great job on the music keeping it interesting throughout.
My favorite songs are You And Your Friends, Lovesong, Act Your Age, Oh Well, and How Soon Is Now?. Sonic Jihad did take me a few listens to really start to grasp what was going on, that could just be me though. The lyrics are straight-forward and brutally honest which is missing from music these days, and the music makes for a great backdrop. So basically, fans of NIN and Collide should probably find more than a few things to like about this CD, and hopefully we'll be hearing more from SRC in the future.

Product Description
First full lenght release from Australia's SonicJihad, 4 years in the making, produced by Peter Hardman of Indie band 'The Effigy' and with collaborations from Aussie Rock legend Ross Wilson from 70's Oz Rock icons Daddy Cool and from members of Resurrection Eve. A mix of fat riffs, catchy grooves and cool vocals, the band's sound has been compared to fellow aussie rockers Jet and to The Killers. 70's rock with an 80's pop sensibility rapped up into a sound for the new century...Customer Reviews:
