one of the best soundtracks EVER.......2007-05-25

After seeing the XXX: State of the Union movie, I wanted to see if the soundtrack was any good. I ended up buying it due to the inclusion of three words on the track list: "Three Days Grace". Yup, I'm a huge TDG fan, so I bought the CD specifically for that track. The track in question is "Just Like Wylin'", a mash-up done specifically for the soundtrack of Bone Crusher's "Wyle Out" and Three Days Grace's smash single "Just Like You"; interestingly enough, "Wyle Out" also appears on the soundtrack, in the #8 song position ("Just Like Wylin'" hit on track 14). Originally, I thought that was the only good song on the CD, but as I began to listen to the other songs, I quickly deduced that this was one of the best soundtracks I had ever heard. I didn't really care for the opening Petey Pablo track, but was absolutely blown away by Ice Cube's "Anybody Seen the PoPo?". The next track, "Fight the Power", is a cover of a Public Enemy song done masterfully by metal band Korn, with a guest appearance by rapper Xzibit. Track 4, Dead Celebrity Status' "Messiah", ties for me with best song on the CD; it's one of the only rap songs I will unashamedly play in front of my friends and say I like it. The next good track is P.O.D.'s "The Payback", which sadly wasn't featured in the movie, a disappointment considering the track is perfect for the movie. Velvet Revolver contributes the next track and I wasn't really impressed with that one, either (never have liked VR that much). Some more good, but filler, rap tracks come in (including one by Moby and Public Enemy that I so could have done without, but excluding Bone Crusher's "Wyle Out"), but the Bone Crusher/ Three Days Grace track saves it for me. Then comes the real surprise, and without a doubt the best song on the CD: Labba's "Did It Again". This one actually hooked me from the very beginning; I love the line in the chorus: "Rap music will never die, all we do is f*cking multiply..." Yeah, that's the shiznit. The last track, "The Good Song" by Tonex, really doesn't need to be in the CD at all.

So, to recap, here are my favorite songs in order:

And I'm not going to comment on the exclusion of the song by BOND, as I have neither heard them nor heard of them; I would have liked to hear them, though, so that's the only reason I'm going to say it should have been on the CD.

it could have been better than it actually turned out.

Like a couple of other reviewers have mentioned, I was very disappointed that the song played during the boat chase sequence -- "I Play You Lose" by The Grusomes featuring Tezz -- was not included in the soundtrack (I really liked that song), and a song by P.O.D. was included in the album, even though it wasn't heard in the soundtrack.

Other than that minor disappointment (along with several others, including the exclusion of Bond's version of "Victory", the absence of Marco Beltrami's opening credits theme and Julian Bunetta's "State Of The Union", which is heard during the closing credits), it's a nice blend of hard rock and rap, with some unusual musical pairings, such as Moby and Public Enemy, and KoRn and Xzibit.

If "I Play You Lose", "State Of The Union", the opening credits theme and "Victory" had been included, I would have given this soundtrack compilation four stars, instead of 3 and a half.

Regarding the missing "violin" song..........2006-03-13

For those interested, the "violin" song played during the party was "VICTORY", performed by BOND, (Haylie Ecker, Eos Chater, Tania Davis & Gay-Yee Westerhoff...yes that's 4 girls, not 3), and I too was very entertained by the entire movie, its soundtrack with ALL the various numbers a very pleasing experience for me. BOND has their own web site, Amazon.com also has their albums available. I just wish I could find their 3 videos they have produced.

The movie was great, but i must add...not quite as attractive as the first movie. The first soundtrack was amazing!!! BUT, i cannot believe they left the violinists song off of here!!! Werent they playing Beethoven? GOD Id love to get my hands on that piece!!!

It has it's value..........2004-05-05

For true music collectors and quality concious D.J.'s that spin via a hard drive (laptop) instead of vinyl and you want as many songs from cd as possible, this CD contains 1 gem that I couldn't find anywhere else.

It has the classic 6 minute version of Rump Shaker (with the MC Lyte loop in the middle and the end) that was only on the vinyl 12" & original cd promo. Having the song from the full length cd or other compilations gave you the standard album/cd version or edit. Finally finding the "right" version of Rump Shaker was worth every penny. I couldn't find it online and I didn't want a vinyl transfer.

The other cuts are cool too but if clean versions are important, this is NOT the cd for you. If that doesn't matter, it's a pretty good compilation.

Are you version concious like me and have some good stuff on cd or mp3? Let me know, I may have some stuff you want. If anybody can help me find the cd pro's with the 12" versions of Babyface "It's No Crime," the 12" version of Guy "I Like," the full cd pro on New Edition "If It Isn't Love" and Taylor Dayne's "I'll Always Love You" with the extended version, pleasssse e-mail me...2187316@skytel.com.

Other hot ones to check out. Billboard's Dance collection (lots of 12" versions on that series...Rapture, Paul hardcastle "19," Shannon and others), Janet Jackson "Control: "The Remixes," Micheal Jackson 12"s (it only has true extended versions of "Billie Jean" and "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" but worth it for collectors!

"Rated XXXtra cheesey".......2005-08-28

When I first saw this CD in '96 and saw that it contained the underground and almost mythical song "ENTER THE DRAGON" (G Rap's best lyrical display on wax!) I knew I had to get it! I almost flipped when the classic Marley Marl played only twice on the radio in '87, was nothing but a watered-down, wack-ass version of the original classic. The same was the case with the previuosly unreleased tracks like "I AIN'T TRICKIN'" and "UNDER 21 NOT PERMITTED". None of these are the original, but some wack versions of some dope underground classics. The only original classics are "RHYME TIME" and "RIKERS ISLAND". The new tracks ain't even all that and the rest of the tracks you can find them on their previous releases. Nothing I would consider classic or a must have here. Don't get me wrong, though! Despite the mediocre beats, G Rap spits venom over each track, but the tracks are so wack, they can't compensate even with a lyrical genius like G Rap. You're better off checking for; KOOL G RAP & DJ POLO: The Best of Cold Chillin'.
