5 out of 5 stars Where Are The Rest Of The Hits?.......2006-07-26

I had to give this five stars seeing all the songs are fantastic but there are so many missing. When is Deathrow going to make a hits CD without omitting tracks. If this is the very best of deathrow where are songs like -
How Do U Want It, Lil Ghetto Boy, Murder Was The Case, Doggy Dogg World, 2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted, F*** Wit Dre Day, Tha Shiznit, Natural Born Killaz, Stranded On Deathrow, Pour Out A little Liqour, Wanted Dead Or Alive, All Eyez On Me, To Live And Die In L.A., god just to name a few! So with no doubt all the songs are great but it is just missing so many other classics that just can't be omitted from a CD like this. I am aware that this is another money making scheme for Suge Knight so he can eat more of these artists. I don't actually own this seeing I have all the albums the tracks were taken from. However if you like this music you might want to get this. I myself would recommend getting the Death Row Greatest Hits albums, however this isn't a terrible idea.

4 out of 5 stars Death Row Artists ----- The Very Best of Death Row.......2006-01-09

With their introduction of G-Funk to the world, the artists of Death Row Records dominated urban radio and music video shows from early-`93 to late-`94. With the easygoing, Parliament-inspired vibes, comprehensible lyrics and sing-a-long choruses of singles like Dr. Dre's "Nuthin' But A G Thang" and Snoop's "Gin and Juice," even some strictly East Coast Hip-hop heads didn't want the party to end. Only a few years later, the signing of 2Pac kept Tha Row in heavy rotation until '96. The Very Best of Death Row (Death Row) is a collection of (mostly) classics that is sure to bring back memories of when these songs from Dre, Snoop, Pac and company had the airwaves on lock.

Executive Producer and Death Row founder Suge Knight handpicked the thirteen songs featured here (plus a new bonus track, "Off The Chain" from latest signee Petey Pablo & Kurupt), and his selections shouldn't disappoint. While Dr. Dre was the first one to feature acts like Snoop and Kurupt, the G-Funk era was a time when these younger West Coast MCs were introduced on a larger level as solo acts. And these cuts are all present, from Snoop's party-starting theme song "Who Am I (What's My Name)" to Warren G and crooner Nate Dogg's melodic hit "Regulate." But as the catchy cruising song, "Let Me Ride" proves, Dr. Dre was not to be outdone either.

While Death Row exploded from their party-inducing singles, for better or worse, they also became notorious for their part in the East Coast versus West Coast drama. And as tracks like "Against All Odds"-in which 2Pac blatantly and brutally calls out Nas and others-are included, it's clear that Suge isn't trying to hide their part in the war. On the lighter side of the battle was Tha Dogg Pound's "New York, New York," which was more tongue-in-cheek than scathing. Neither Kurupt nor Snoop took any personal shots here, but this song was enough to infuriate some high-profile East Coast MCs.

All in all Suge did a good job of compiling the best material that his label brought to the table. Although, it's hard not to wonder why quality fan favorites like Snoop's introspective "Murder Was The Case" are nowhere to be found on this collection while less memorable songs like Tha Dogg Pound's "What Would You Do" are. Aside from a couple of questionable selections The Very Best of Death Row lives up to its title. It couldn't have been released at a better time since many of these songs were summer anthems and this compilation should serve as a trip down memory lane for many listeners. If you weren't one of the millions who picked up albums like Doggystyle or The Chronic, now's the time to relive the classics of the early-90s, while artists like Dr. Dre prepare to release new material (albeit not on Death Row). If you weren't around to catch there songs when they were first released and embraced by the mainstream (read: MTV), this is a great starting point to get caught up with Tha Row.

5 out of 5 stars Good for the newbies.......2005-11-21

This is a pretty well done comp. for anyone who's new to the west coast rap scene. However i already have all these songs on other CDs...so kinda pointless for me to pick this up. If u like this...Go pick up "the Chronic", "DoggyStyle", "All Eyez on Me", & "Dogg Food". Peace

2 out of 5 stars Greatest Hits?.......2005-09-29

i think this album is just suge trying to get death row back on the scene. it has some classic tracks on it, but where is 'Wit Dre Day' 'How Do U Want It' 'What Would U Do' 'Who Am I' 'Murder Was The Case' 'Natural Born Killaz' and many others that should always be mentioned when u talk about death rows greatest hits.

If you don't know what death row is about then just look at their back catalogue and you will see classic albums, too many to truly make a greatest hits album that would have every classic track on it. this album is just a money spinner for suge. i suggest buying 'The Chronic' 'Doggystyle' 'All Eyez On Me' 'Dogg Food' & some more of the back catlogue and have a classic collection of your own.

4 out of 5 stars Good compilation if you are new to Death Row.......2005-09-12

for newer fans of Death Row Records this is a Good collection.I always Respected Suge Knight's Business Savvy, but Dude been living off the Catelogs for years&bringing in Petey Pablo ain't gonna make you remember back in the day. Before Bad Boy Records,No limit,Cash Money,Murder Inc,etc.... Death Row was the Standard with Dr.Dre,Snoop Dogg,Dogg POund,Lady of Rage,2Pac,Danny Boy on the Hooks. that was Death Row.anything after 97 is patchy at best.

4 out of 5 stars THE VERY BEST OF THE DECADE PAST !.......2006-01-21

IT IS VERY STRANGE TO CALL THESE SONGS OLD.
BECAUSE HOW MANY PEOPLE STILL LISTEN TO THEM TODAY.
BUT IT WAS 10+ YEARS AGO DR.DRE CHRONIC ALBUM CAME OUT IN 92`
AND SNOOP DOGG 1st CD IN 94`
AND THE REST OF THE DEATH~ROW CREW ALONG WITH 2~PAC
RULED THE 90'S WITH STRONG RAP FLOW & HARD~CORE RHYMES.
AND HARD HITTING BASS BEATS FOR YOUR 15~INCH SUBS.
THE REASON TO BUY THIS DUAL~DISC IS BECAUSE THEY WERE ALL HITS
WE ALL KNEW AND LOVED.AND HAD GREAT PARTYS & MEMORYS TO.
AND THE VIDEO'S ON THE DVD SIDE. WERE THE ONES WE COULD NOT WAIT
TO COME ON MTV EVERY DAY.NOW WE GET TO OWN THEM.
THE REASON I GAVE THIS 4 STARS INSTEAD OF 5 IS THEY SHOULD HAVE
MADE THIS A 2~DISC PACKAGE.DEATH~ROW MAY BE A RECORD LABEL GONE
DOWN HILL.BUT THEY LEFT A PILE OF HITS BEHIND THAT WILL BE PLAYED ON STEREO'S UNTIL THE SUN BURNS OUT !!!
{TONY~TONI~TON`E}/MELBOURNE,FLORIDA/[2~PAC R.I.P.]

This dual disc re-release of "The very best of Death Row" needs improvement. The dvd side contains 7 videos including "Regulate" by Warren G and nate Dogg, "California Love" By Tupac and Dr Dre and 5 others and although it is a great buy, it is missing one essential video on the dvd side, "Afro Puffs" by The Lady Of Rage. Rage was one of Death Row's most underrated musicians but if Death row is going to give us the song, give us the video, too. If they were to re-release this dual-disc with the video to "Afro Puffs" then it would be worth buying
