5 out of 5 stars JBL Studio Monitors or equivalent.......2006-09-30

Without a doubt the highest quality recording I have ever heard. The liner info states that when Telarc, a label known for classical recordings, decided to branch out to other genres. They wanted a cd that would demonstrate the audio potential. They suceeded with Spies. Track 3 will rattle the windows. I especially like the credit for the F16 pilot. This recording is a must for any true audiophile.

Buddy of mine wanted to show of his car audio equipment and played this cd... along with some David Benoitt.. both CDs blew me away... nuff said, if you like jazz and want to test your equipment, get this cd... I did !

5 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2003-04-15

This the best sounding cd on the planet bar none. There is a warning on the back cover from telarc records that suggest you adjust your audio equipment before attempting to play this cd. They are not kidding! Every track is fantastic! I first heard this cd from a friend of mine who had converted a home stereo to his car.(It was before the days of great car audio equipment). We listened to it in a parking lot of a stip center. Track 3 & 8 rattled and vibrated every window of every business in the entire strip center. Heed the warning from telarc records but buy this cd if you do not own it. It is simply amazing! Also check out-James Newton Howard and friends. It is just as crisp and clean and the friends he is refering too are all of the Pacaro brothers.Jeff Pacaro was one of the tighest drummers who ever picked up the sticks. Both of these cd's should be in everyones collection

5 out of 5 stars Sub Par sound systems step aside.......2002-12-29

I originally heard this CD while browsing for some new digital equipment. This is what the salesman played and I forgot about the equipment! I listened to the beginning of the first 4 songs and I was floored. I immediately asked the artist and album title. I have played it so many times that I have a cd for the house, one for the car and one for work. You do not know what sound is until you hear this cd

5 out of 5 stars Listen with your eyes closed.......1999-06-23

I always listen to this album with all the lights out and my eyes closed. It is the absolute best way to experience this record. I was first introduced to this group while testing out new speakers the last time I upgraded my system. I drove to the first CD shop I came to after leaving the stereo shop and purchased this disc. Every song is distinctive in regard to the style and the substance. I agree with the previous review, if your system can handle track 3, it should be able to handle anything. The digital recording gives great seperation, not only side to side, but gives an overwelming feeling of depth to the music. Give this disc a try.

Being friends with Span Phly doesn't change my oppinion of his album or music in general. He's got the voice of a power yoga instructor and the lyrics of a modern day Shakespeare. And with the 2 of those atributes combined along with his self-created ambiant beats, Meet Your Master raises the bar of indie hip hop. Listen deep into the lyrics and you will find the mind of great lyricist... always thinking. It's not just about rhymes, but making sense of things even if he is posing a question that he doesn't have the answer to. Brilliant and crisp, this artist and album will amaze you!

      5 out of 5 stars WOW!.......2006-06-12

Okay, weird thing is no one has reviewed this CD yet, which is crazy cause it is amazing.

I got this CD from my friends sister after we went to a hip hop show in St. Cloud's most BS venue ever "The Playaz Lounge." We were seeing Mike aka Impulse of Living Stereo and Sector 7 G, he happens to be one of my favorite rapper. After the show we were all driving back and I was like, "Dude Mike, you kinda rap like Busdriver." And he was like, well lately I've been trying to sound like this dude from Phoenix--that's when I was introduced to Span Phly, we dropped by Mike's house and he got me the "Meet Your Master" disc. I put it on my iPod and lately that's all I've been listening to. Why do I like Span Phly so much? For one, he never seems to try too hard. Occasionaly I'll pick up a CD that's trying WAAAY too hard to be abstract (ahem* Out of Bounds), however Span Phly manages to be abstract all the while not too out there. His beats are pretty simple most have a syntheseiser and a typical drum beat which usually has more than your typical kick, hat, snare. However the best thing about Span Phly is his content over flow. Sure, a lot of rappers can rhyme about how they "hurtin while they werkin and then squirtin on her curtains blurtin the flirtin" at 1000 MPH (ahem* Bone Thugs), but Span can rhyme ridiculously fast while making sense, he even includes a lot of irony in his raps. Sure he's not a deep emo mastermind like Sage Francis, or a machine gun flower like them Bone Thugs, however he combines each of their elements. His voice can grate on people, he is kind of nasally, however hes not Beastie Boys because he is Mexican and not caucasion(sp?) Anyways if you searched this CD you were probably planning on buying it anyways cause it's not exactly easy to find. If and when you get it, make sure to check out Track 4, Jesus Wore A Jetpack, which is probably the best song on the CD.

Sounding like the misbegotten child of SHADOWY MEN ON A SHADOWY PLANET and MAN OR ASTROMAN, J.A.T.S. should best be listened to while wearing a camouflage wetsuit whilst surfing the coast of Monster Island...and that's a huge compliment. I mean it.

              Album Description

Composer Frank Lewin has incorporated folk songs and popular music from various ethnic traditions in his scores and films, television programs, and plays, as well as in his opera Burning Bright (Albany Records: TROY 469/71). Each tune was adapted to the expressive requirements of the particular subject. Occasionally original music was composed in a particular style, as "source music," i.e. music heard within the action of a scene. Two eminent performers of the recent past, both now deceased, open and close this collection: violist Walter Trampler and fiddler Johnny Cunningham. In between, artists of equal merit perform music from a variety of sources. Frank Lewin has written scores for films, television programs, plays, and historical outdoor dramas. Among his concert music are song cycles and choral works, including a requiem which was first performed in 1969, during a memorial service for Robert Kennedy in the chapel of Princeton University, and Music for the ! White House, for which he conducted members of the Westminster Choir and the United States Marine Band. The composer was a member of the faculty of the Yale School of Music from 1971 to 1992, teaching composition for film. During this period he also taught the course Music in Modern Media at Columbia University's School of the Arts.
