XTC created the Dukes of Stratosphear almost on a lark, as an excuse to play the kind of music they grew up listening to and playing. The invention of the pseudonym gave them the opportunity to wear on their sleeves the influences they had only hinted at as XTC. The Dukes released two records between 1985 and 1987 and they are both compiled in their entirety on Chips from the Chocolate Fireball. Listening to Chips is like sifting through a '60s psychedelia bin at a good used record store. The only thing missing are the pops and crackles as you drop the needle onto the neglected vinyl. The best of the era is re-created here with reverence and an amazing attention to detail: Syd Barrett's childlike lyrics, the Blue Cheer fuzz-guitar frenzy, dissonant Sgt. Pepper strings and horns, and good old Brian Wilson-style indulgences.
The record opens with "25 O'Clock," which instantly recalls the Electric Prunes' "I Had Too Much to Dream Last Night." From there the references become more obscure: the Count Five's "Psychotic Reaction" is invoked by the bombastic guitar sludge of Sir John Johns (Andy Partridge) and Lord Cornelius Plum (Dave Gregory) on "My Love Explodes," while "Bike Ride to the Moon" is demented enough to have appeared on Pink Floyd's Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Other high points include the Hollies-inspired "Vanishing Girl" and the Beatles-style piano stomp "You're a Good Man Albert Brown." The record closes with the priceless "Pale and Precious." With its dead-on Wilson brothers harmonies and faux theremin, the song plays like an undiscovered gem from the Beach Boys' Smile sessions. --Paul Ducey

Customer Reviews:
Brilliant tribute to psychedelic music.......2007-06-20
This is worth it just for "Mole From The Ministry". The whole album pays a loving tribute to the best of 60's psychedelic music without mocking it. One of XTC's best albums.
Love the Beatles, XTC and Britpop? You'll love this!.......2007-04-24
if you like britpop, the beatles and/or xtc, this is a clever and fun collection of the entire Dukes library, the alter ego of XTC, in homage to the Beatles.
some of the tunes are just so well done, and the hooks so well crafted that you'll find this is an enjoyable revisit, year after year. you are unlikely to sell this one used.
just simply fun, and much more creative and loyal to the sound of the Beatles than anyone else has done.
Phun, Phun , Phun.......2007-03-17
This recording by the Dukes, aka XTC, is just plain fun and entertaining. The problem with a lot of the music from the psychedelic era was that while they may have included the prerequisite sound effects or drug themes, the tunes themselves were just plain stupid. XTC's strong suit has always been clever songwriting and knowing not to take themselves too seriously. The playing on this collection is great. The bombastic drums, guitars and terrific vocals put to shame most of what passes for rock music today, and these guys were just screwing around for the fun of it. Even though this was a fun recording as homage to the psychedelic peroid, it still contains all that fans of XTC have come to expect from their work: clever wordplay in the lyrics, great musicianship and pristine production. They even have a few special effects here and there that would have made the best of sixties psychedelia (Beatles, Pink Floyd) proud.
Not Quite The Beatles or Pink Floyd, but...........2007-03-10
The record starts off with a cheezy tribute to Pink Floyd, that I think is worthy of Spinal Tap. I still don't know if this was serious, or tongue-in-cheek. While this album will never be my favorite, I am liking it more with each play. "Vanishing Girl" is the one tune that really stands out. If you are new to XTC, I would hold off on buying this CD and go for "English Settlement" or "Skylarking".
Glean from the Peppermint Ice Cube.......2006-10-30
As funny as it is beautiful.
And its really really...both.

Legendary 70th's TV show with superb score!.......2007-07-13
The Chips score means the sound of some TV-shows in the late 70th's. I like TV-shows from that time, and Chips is one of my favourite! Two police officers on the highway, doing there jobs with funny and serious adventures - it's so nice, that in all sessions of this show there NEVER was brutality, one time only there was a gun in the stopry, but never again. The music of Alan Silvestri is superb! Let's hope, that they will bring out the other Chips-music-material on CD, too!
A fun look back in time.......2007-04-03
This is a great CD if you are a fan of CHiPs. This would also be great to throw on at a party to see some interesting looks of "I remember that song!"
Also, if you want to listen to the early works of Alan Silvestri and film scores as well, this is for you.

Product Description
FSM releases its first film musical in a spectacular and unprecedented 3CD edition: Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1969), featuring songs and music by Leslie Bricusse, conducted and supervised by John Williams. Goodbye, Mr. Chips was Arthur P. Jacobs's musical remake of M-G-M's acclaimed 1939 drama, based on a novel by James Hilton about a stuffy British schoolmaster and the woman who brings love to his life. Peter O'Toole starred as Mr. Chips, alongside formidible musical talent Petula Clark as Mrs. Chips. Goodbye, Mr. Chips was the first of John Williams's three large-scale musical adaptations, a massive creative undertaking in which he was solely responsible for the film's underscore, conducting, orchestrations and source music. Although the Goodbye, Mr. Chips production came in under-budget, it had a long and colorful history of "development hell" in which multiple composers, directors, and stars were attached -- and a wealth of music generated. This comprehensive 3CD set focuses on Bricusse's and Williams's involvement with a definitive chronicle of their recordings: Disc one features the complete score as it was intended for the finished film (including several unused Williams score cues). Disc two features an "alternate narrative" of the story through different versions of the songs, source cues, score alternates, and promotional interviews given by the film's stars. Disc three features the original 1969 soundtrack album, followed by yet more demo and alternate versions of songs, including "Tomorrow With Me," sung by Petula Clark and orchestrated by Williams and one of Bricusse's favorite unused songs. The 48-page booklet features a definitive account of the movie and soundtrack's creation, written by album producer Michael Matessino. The album is almost entirely in stereo, with interview tracks and a few source and demo cues in mono.

Absolutely Fantastic!! A MUST HAVE for soundtrack collectors!!.......2007-04-10
I've been waiting for the film score to Goodbye, Mr. Chips to become available for some time, my only reference to it being a skipping and popping version of the original LP. This movie and its music, an excellent score by Leslie Bricusse with orchestrations and underscore by John Williams, played a very instrumental (no pun intended) role in my development as a performer and actor. The additional information as well as alternate takes and interview sessions with stars O'Toole and Clark provide invaluable insight into how full the production could have been. The notes included in the quite significant booklet add a touch of sophistication and reflection that can be summed up in these thoughts from the booklet: "The final irony is that the revolution on 1969's horizon [Midnight Cowboy, Easy Rider, The Wild Bunch-Ed.] never truly materialized: in less than a decade it became clear that the real revolution (as Star Wars depicted) was to restore the values that the 1960's had questioned... it turned out that there was a place for "Brookfield" in the new world after all..." With that said, we now have the clarity of 20-20 hindsight in seeing that the counter-culture films that overshadowed its initial release slowly faded from mainstream media, and that John Williams' scores would go on to become the standard by which all other film scores would be measured.
Now for some wishful thinking: The simplicity and beauty of the music would only be enhanced by a fully restored and remastered DVD version of the film. It's most unfortunate that both the producer Arthur P. Jacobs and the director Herb Ross are no longer available to give us their vision. Perhaps someone with an intense love of a bygone era in movie musicals and the financial wherewithall will step up and give this beautiful and touching film to a completely new audience... a general audience that, as recent film trends have shown, are looking for something that invokes a kinder, more simple time.
At long last! Goodbye Mr Chips (1969) in a definitive digital edition!.......2007-03-26
I fell in love with this score the moment I listened to the M-G-M recording back in 1969 (I was 19 years old at the time). Over the decades I prayed for a CD remastering. Well it's here! Read the other reviews. They say it all. I've listened to this new verson through my iPod a good 25 times already. It still gives me goose bumps every time I play it.
But I do not believe this is a limited edition. Nothing on the release says so, nor on Film Score Monthly's website. [...]
Buy this now!.......2006-08-23
Seriously, Leslie Bricusse has writen some of the most timeless songs for this soundtrack, and for the first time John Williams' music for the movie itself is also included. Listening to these CDs, you hear the beginnings of his later, better known scores.
Sentimental? Yes, but in the best way. Uplifting? Absolutely. I've been searching for a CD of this movie for years, and now to have the bounty of 3 CDs - the first being the actual film score (including the underscore, instrumental music used in specific scenes that has not been available before but is gorgeous), the second being mainly alternate versions of the music used in the movie, along with interview segments with the principal cast members, and the final CD containing the original tracks from the original sound track album along with more interviews and more alternate takes.
In addition, there is a 48 page booklet detailing each CD and track, as well as the history of the movie - and I had never known that originally Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews were to be the principals, with Andre Previn doing the score! Fascinating info - very enjoyable.
I've tried to purchase this set from local booksellers who tell me that this was a limited edition and is now out of print again. Wherever you find it, buy it. I cannot imagine anyone regretting it.
As Good as it Gets.......2006-05-31
Possibly the best kept secret of the theatrical year is the release of this amazing 3CD set. Totally amazing, especially for those who have been hungering for years for a proper CD of this glorious music from this under rated screen classic . No one could have done a better job of putting all this music together complete with a booklet that sets everything out perfectly with some of the best color shots I have ever seen from this film. Now PLEASE can the people who made this CD firstly try and get it a wider distribution ,with Amazon only listing one available, it looks like case of grab it quickly or it will be gone forever, and PLEASE can some one now take this same care to put a DVD of this movie out complete with all this missing footage, mostly never seen that is aluded to on this disc.,.....Wonderful, joyous, grab it quickly.
Goes Right To the Heart.......2006-05-18
"Fill The World With Love" is one of my favorite songs and it is a joy to have it in all its full-length, gloriously orchestrated glory. There are so many wonderful tracks I lost count. It's expensive and worth every penny. The original version of "London Is London" is worth the price alone.

Classic West Coast Anthems.......2006-02-10
Stackin' Chips is an absolute classic from start to finish! These three cats all come together with tight chemistry to spit fire on wax. As for the beats, producers from Tone capone, Ant Banks, Lev Berlak, and even N.O. Joe, and many more work magic in the studio to create some of the phattest G-Funk beats from Cali. "West Coast S---" puts it down for the left coast, over a fun, sunny beat that will make you get the cd, put it in the car and let it shake the trunk as you ride down the avenue! The title track is another classic, with a bouncy, funky beat with faint keyboard whining in the background, perfect to bounce in a lowrider! "Next N----s H-" has a beat that reminds me slightly of the LBC, similar to something Daz Dillinger might produce (although it was produced by Tone capone). All in all, a smokin album by 3X Krazy!! Makes me proud to be raised in California! Don't sleep.
3X Krazy stacks chips with the best on this album.......2005-06-19
3X Krazy released a great bay area classic "Stackin Chips" in '97 during a time when the dancin' east coast rappers were starting to take over and when 2Pac passed did take some of the life out of the west coast rap game. This CD though was a breath of fresh air because my favorite producer Anthony "Tone Capone" Gilmour did most of the production on this CD with great delivery on the boards while B.A., Agermann, & Keak Da Sneak laced the tracks with their flowamatic sound. The CD starts out with Sikkaluffa with 3X doing their duty and then my favorite and one of top 5 tracks of all time "Keep It On The Real" with Mike Marshall from Timex Social Club with the great hook while Tone Capone work the boards off of 52nd Street's "Tell Me How It Feels" and the talkbox. "Can't F*** With This" is another dope track put together by Tone Capone along with the title track "Stackin' Chips" & my next favorite song from the album which should the west coast anthem "West Coast S***". Ant Banks also does some production on here with "In The Name of Rame" & another one of my top 5 producer pedigree Mike Dean comes with it on "Open Your Eyes". Some other notable tracks are "Next Niggas Ho", "Pistols Blazin'" w/Dru Down, "Tired Of The Pain" w/Christion(where are they?), & "Ghetto Soldiers" w/Mike Marshall which is a great track talking about the homies that we used to roll with that put it the work and has gone on. Overall a great piece of work that was well orchastrated by 3X and Noo Trybe at that time. What will probably put this CD over the top from the other albums is better production. Also check out the 3X Krazy's "Flowamatic 9" CD which is very good.

Pure Energy.......2000-09-17
What an incredible recording! What energy, what a fantastic voice! The songs, many of which are rarely recorded, are presented in a wonderful upbeat and stylish mood. It's almost impossible not to love this CD. Her tributes to the greats of the silver screen are very witty and yet not overly campy. Judy manages to almost one up Carmen Miranda, with her Carmen Tribute. I must say I never really liked the song "Thanks alot, but no thanks" until I heard Judy's version. This CD will leave you exhausted but with lots of happy memories. It will also leave you wishing that Judy Kaye recorded more often!!

Only a couple enjoyed.......2007-01-10
I guess I expected more music from the classic SCROOGE, with Alister Syms. But, I did like the music from GOODBYE MR. CHIPS. Otherwise, not very much more on this CD.
A most pleasant journey........2003-12-09
This cd is one of a series of film music productions by Chandos. Others include the works of Vaughan Williams, Dmitri Shostakovich, Malcolm Arnold, Nino Rota etc. All are conducted by Rumon Gamba with the BBC Philharmonic. If this disc containing the music of Richard Addinsell is any indication of what to expect from the others, then, indeed, the series may constitute a very fine one. The playing is excellent---clear, dynamic, tuneful, just right (sentimentally speaking) and atmospheric in the usual motion picture soundtrack manner. The recorded sound aids significantly in sustaining the favorable overall impression. The Warsaw Concerto (from "Dangerous Moonlight") is probably the best known piece here, however melodies from a number of the other works provide a very welcome measure of enjoyment. The Suite from "Goodbye Mr. Chips" is particularly lovely and memorable. "Love on the Dole" offers a charming elegance. "The Black Rose" , which starred Tyrone Power, has an open air spirit of exoticism and adventure. The wonderful "Scrooge" music restores the vivid memories associated with Alastair Sim's outstanding and deservedly famous portrayal of the title character. There is a moving tune, which is played in the movie during a meeting between Scrooge, as a young man , and his ill fated sister. It also appears when Scrooge visits his nephew to seek forgiveness and acceptance after he has learned a lesson from the three spirits that he will never forget. Though the Suite runs for fourteen minutes, one still wishes for more...The Overture from "Tom Brown's Schooldays" is both pleasantly playful and nostalgic. (Oh how that violin sometimes brings tears to one's eyes.)..."The Admirable Crichton" , for which Addinsell refused to take credit, displays continental flair...Finally, The Flame Tango from "Out of the Clouds" and the Suite from "Blithe Spirit" also give melodic satisfaction. Clearly, Richard Addinsell stands as one of the most engaging movie score composers of a bygone generation, as this cd attests. Most satisfying and warmly recommended.

Customer Reviews:
Ghostface's got another one!!!.......2007-05-26
A fairly solid album (Does Ghostface ever deliver any less?) that is a colaboration between Ghostface Killah and Mick Boogie.
This album is worth the price alone solely for the remix of "Never Be The Same Again". It is seriously that good. A full remix should be in order.
There are a ton of other solid Ghostface songs in addition to strong support from Trife da God.
Two criticisms. The "Verbal Intercourse 2006 - MB Mix" is basically a rehash of Apollo Kids and really doesn't match either of the originals of Apollo Kids or Verbal Intercourse. Also the CD comes across as a little over produced in that the constant sample of radio changing and Mick Boogie trademark are a bit of overkill.
Overall a really solid Album, Ghostface is definitely one of the best (could be the best at the moment) MC's to grace the mic. Mick Boogie is definitely an excellent contributor to this album.

Oh YEAH!.......2002-12-30
It's real! It's raw! It's gut-level! There is no slick production work. They didn't clean it up so it'll go down easy. It's down home cookin' - none o' this fancy white tablecloth eats. It's from the soil and you can taste the dirt! You ain't gonna like it at first, but it's gonna become part o' yo' soul an' then you gonna crave it.
An amazing slice of Americana.......2000-03-01
I never knew this music existed -- until I got this CD. What great stuff! I especially like the "Denomination Blues" played on the rare pianola. It has an amazingly delicate sound, with lyrics sometimes funny, sometimes quite poignant. Also great is "City of Refuge" (what a gruff voice!), the fabulous harmonies of "Stay on the Right Side" (did Take 6 study the Blue Chips?), and the calmly confident "Jesus Gonna Make up my dying Bed." This is "religious" music sung by people who really believed what they were singing - and it shows!

Album Description
2007 release from the Wu-Tang Clan man and DJ Mick Boogie, the official prequel to Killah's latest opus More Fish. The Commissioner was "commissioned" by Def Jam Records to create this street album, so Wu-Tang fans...pay attention! This album features many exclusives including freestyles, collabos and Mick Boogie remixes, all keep the CD moving, and of course it's hosted by Ghost and his Theodore henchman Trife Da God. A must for any true Hip-Hop and Wu-Tang/Theodore Unit fan. Nocturne.
