THE SECOND TIME I SAW FERRON IN CONCERT THIS CD WAS FOR SALE. SHE SIGNED MINE AND MY DAUGHTER'S AND HER WIFE TO BE. iNCREDIBLE MUSIC. FERRON HAS GROWN INTO A CONSUMMATE PERFORMER.

5 out of 5 stars Soft side of the rock.......2005-06-04

Had a chance to meet Ferron at the KIMO Theatre in Albuquerque, New Mexico...unfortunately did not get to hear her...but my best friend got me an autographed CD which I just heard for the first time moments ago...it's beautiful...wise...a piece of sanity...the soft side of the rock! Like "Life is a Brook" from Stll Riot, if "Goat Path" doesn't wring it out of you, you must be heartless.

    5 out of 5 stars About Time.......2005-06-02

Cast by Ferron as "Driver's big sister," Turning into Beautiful is the creation of a master songwriter who has taken care to explain what time does: how remembrance and reflection models the present, shapes our resolve, and moves us toward perfection and grace if we would only face it and claim it as we might do at long last. The effort beseeches easy living with ourselves and our loved ones, here-and-now and beyond. And like returning each night to a cherished sweetie at home, listeners will grow more and more fond of this album with repeated listening. Over and over again you'll look forward to hearing the open-hearted arrangements and compositions of the talented tunesmiths who participated in the recording. Recorded remotely on the same Vancouver-area island location where some of her earliest published songs were penned, Ferron is joined by a creative cast of accomplished Canadian and American musicians, including two who played on the 1980 album, Testimony, twenty-five years before. Turning into Beautiful (and don't we all?) is aptly named, indeed. This recording is well-produced and beautifully mastered, with clear and clean sounds of C&W, contemporary folk, rock-n-roll, blues, and gospel.

4 out of 5 stars Ferron Back Up.......2005-05-21

lots of pedal steel and twang on this which creates a new twist for her, but basically a rehash of Driver and Still Riot sans saxophone. cut 3, "In the Meantime" is one of her prettier moments & worth the cd alone. after 8 year hiatus, this should have been great, but it's only good.

    3 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars for Slim's 4th and final album - R.I.P........2007-07-19

Just 9 months since he released "Years Later", his first album not on No Limit,(and the only Soulja Slim album I don't have and I ain't paying $60 for it), he comes back with the appropriately titled 4th album, just months before he was murdered. Of the 3 albums I have, his best is his debut, "Give it 2 em Raw", (4 stars) and his "Streets Made Me" is about even with this, getting 3.5 stars. Like all his albums you get a lot of songs, 17 on this one. Guests are minimal, on 5 of the 17 songs, and mostly his Cut Throat Committy and a few ex Cash Money artist. Of the 17 songs, 7-10 are good and 6-9 are ok, and 1 I skip over. Mostly some ghetto and gangsta tales like he always has and a few dirtier songs as well. He throws a few disses at Master P and Silkk the Shocker as well as giving some props to Mac, C-Murder and KLC. Production is decent. Danio Kartel does 10 songs, Bass Heavy and KLC each do 2 songs, and S Bear, Zoherr, Sinasta all do 1 song. A good album for down south rap fans to have but not his best work.

First of all please excuse the fact that the title is so long. I decided to title this review the first thing that came to mine upon thinking of Slim. While there are a various number of rappers that try their hardest to be real but in reality are nothing more than studio gangstas. Im my opinion Slim didn't try to be real or a gangsta he was both. Just by listening to his music you can hear it in his voice that the stuff he raps about isn't something he thought would make a good story in a song it was his life. He is one rapper that I will admit to sleeping on and once I had began to really listen to his music he had passed away. I will say this in closing, he is one of a few rappers I would've loved to meet in person. R.I.P. Soulja Slim

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The title says it all!.......2000-12-28

This is some of Rick's best work from his "later" years. The set includes BOTH sides of his second single for Decca "String Along/Gypsy Woman". "String Along" is a catchy novelty number that is sorta country tinged while "Gypsy Woman" is really a hard number to pigeon hole other than to say it's a great number. These two I was already familiar with having the original 45. Another original 45 makes it on here "I Wonder/The Very Thought of You". Again, we find "I Wonder" to be very much country influenced (as was a lot of his music from that period and before) while "The Very Thought of You" sounds as if it could be at home with the style of Dean Martin.

One absolute treat is his treatment of country music standards. One might expect that Roy Acuff would roll over in his grave when someone plays "Night Train To Memphis", but Rick turns in a ever wonderful version. It doesn't sound dated, but yet remains traditional to the core. "Truck Drivin' Man" is taken by Rick and made his own as well. On "Mystery Train", Rick turns in a better performance than Elvis.

The two live cuts are engaging. Most entertainers simply don't make live cuts this fascinating, but "I'm Walkin'" & "Hello, Mary Lou" are among the best cuts on the set.

The cuts from the LP's "Another Side of Rick" & "Perspectives" are absolutely fascinating. "Don't Blame It On Your Wife" is the kind of philosophical thoughts we'd hear from the likes of possibly Bob Dylan.

The last highlights of the set are the last songs he made for Decca including "Garden Party" (based on his lukewarm reception at a Madison Square Garden oldies show). The last two cuts prove Rick could still rock when wanted to.

The bottom line? While many artists can only cut entertaining music for a period of a few years, Rick proved again & again he could produce fresh, entertaining music and could do more than sing memories. This is a must have set.

I bought this album when he first put it out & after I opened it, I couldn't stop listening to it! This was one of the five most realist Soulja Slim albums I've heard before! I knew that he would be better off without Master P & No Limit because they weren't even on the same raw & uncut level as Slim was! Oh yeah & this album sounds alot more without Silkk the Shocker or Master P's wake a#*es on it! Slim, my nigga I see ya! It's official now, forget No Limit because it's Cut Throat 4Life!

4 out of 5 stars My favorite rapper.......2004-10-24

yeah, soulja slim released this cd independently after he left no limit. He has some good songs on here, the best one being ill pay for it, that the song that got my attention. This cd is kind of rare because he relasesed this independently on cutthroat records. If your a big fan of soulja slim get this to make your collection complete because he has a record out called years later and a month with is the same album with more tracks relased nationaly.

5 out of 5 stars Another Dead Rapper.......2004-10-12

Hello, everyone SOULJA SLIM BKA James Tapp was the most underrated rapper in history, because he was never really part of anything like the award shows like VIBE SOURCE BET MTV or any other type of award show hits like I'LL PAY FOR IT should have a award for BEST SONG OF THE YEAR (2003) even though none of his CDs ever reached platinum status he delivered great music just like all the fellow New Orleans rapper (who I think is the best in the industry) talks about their struggle in growing up in the housing projects of the NO (which are the most deadly in our country) the rappers of NO LIMIT and CASH MONEY ( who were down south rivals at a time) are the heavyweights of the music industry when it comes to rap, SOULJA SLIM should be considered a legend, unlike Tupac ( the no.1 rapper of all-time) SOULJA SLIM should have awards for many of his hits like "From What I Was Told from the CD GIVE IT 2 EM RAW, and "Get cha' mind right" from the CD STREETS MADE ME, "I'll pay for it" from the Years Later CD and "Lov me or love not" from Years Later: A few months after CD each of his CDs should have sold at least a million copies if you with a independent label like NO LIMIT/PRIORITY records or CUTTHROAT COMITTY/KOCH records I feel sad knowing that a great rapper like SOULJA SLIM was cheated of success and most sadden cheated of his life, at least he will be remember by me and the whole state of ILLINOIS. RIP James Tapp BKA SOULJA SLIM September 9, 1977---November 26, 2003

For all of you true fans of Soulja Slim you have to pick up the Hype Enough Records Limited Edition album. You won't find it here or in any store unless you live in the N.O.. You can order it here along with many other N.O.rappers. www.peachesrecordsandtapes.com Soulja Slim was really before his time. When you get the Hype Enough Records album you will see what I mean. He really does tell the story of his life through all of his ablums. He was one of the realist rappers period. Also check out Straight From the Projects DVD with C Murder on the cover. Slim appears in that also straight from Magnolia Projects.
