It's all here- um, well sorta............2005-05-28
Do the math- 52 tracks, for $34- but only ONE cd? I dropped the cd into my rig and began my journey to the past, but was disappointed in the quality of the recording, and the "continuous mix" was weak. It's ALMOST all here- but you'll be disappointed to find that just as you ease into a cut and think "Oh yeah..." as you recall the smell of Obsession cologne, tight day-glo clothing, and the flavor of cheap beer you enjoyed in your youth the cut is abruptly ended and another begins. It's like heresy that only a few lines into a classic cut like "Bring the Noise" or "Mama said knock you out"- it's GONE and another one mixes in, and then it's gone....
I think the value of this comp is how it whets one's appetite to bring back old school spins when TALENT, DETERMINATION and ARTISTIC ABILITY was required to "make it" rather than a marketing scheme by the business men in $2000 suits who take your crumpled bills today. It may also function to make one seek out the individual tracks we miss on this comp and purchase them. As a stand- alone recording however, I'd pass.
