every true hip hop fan should already have every eric b and rakim album or cd,but for those who don't,this is not the best compilation of their work.three classic songs are missing from this "best of" collection, "move the crowd", "as the rhyme goes on" and most noticeably,"my melody",but any eric b and rakim is better than no eric b and rakim, so for the casual hip hop fan this will suffice. if you want a much more complete complilation, go with eric b and rakim "GOLD", a double cd that contains all the great hits and some not so well known songs as well!

If you are a fan of hip-hop, you need to cop this album, period. Every single line that the R spits is venom. Every song on this album serves as the blueprint for any song in its genre. For example, "I Ain't No Joke" and "Follow the Leader" are the ultimate battle raps, whereas "In the Ghetto" contains the best rap lyrics of all time. Listen to what Rakim is saying in this song; it is surreal. On a scale of 1 to 5, the beats on this album are a 3. Rakim's lyrics are a 5, no quesiton. Again, if you are a fan of rap, you need to study each of these songs. Note: Rakim's songs after Eric B, such as the ones he did with Premier ("When I be on the Mic" and "It's been a long time") are awesome as well.

"Follow the leader" was played over the sound system between acts at the Coldplay concert in Philly last week. I thought "Man, I haven't heard Eric B. and Rakim in years." I immediately went out and bought this disc and haven't stopped listening to it yet. This is really good stuff and should be listened to by anyone who desires a full appreciation of important music of the 80s.

Ok, I am 33 so these guys are definitely staples from my era. These guys are the orignal dynamic duo. All of their stuff was the best but this album is really missing "My Melody" That would make this album truly complete.

Eric B and Rakim are the best the old school has to offer. Most kids today have never heard of their greatness or witnessed any of rakims lyrics. You really cant go wrong with any of the early Eric B and Rakim Albums these guys are one of my favorite old school groups next to Boogie Down Productions of course. This is ten classic songs of material from all of their albums. so if you dont got it get it. WORD

Oh my God!!! This brought back soooooo many memories of my college days. I forgot how sweet "Don't You Know" was and how the clubs were bangin' "We Got Our Own Thang", "Is It Good To You", "Now That We've Found Love", "Gyrlz They Love Me", etc. Every morning I play this CD to get me started, especially with "The Overweight Lovers in the House" starting things off.

From beginning to end, the groove is non-stop. You don't have to skip songs to get to the ones that you like. Every song on here was and is a "banga".

Big ups to Hev and the Boyz. RIP Trouble T-Roy.

Heavy D.......2004-09-03

I heard Don't You Know on the radio about two days ago and I had forgotten all about Heavy D. So I had to go out and get this CD of all his greatest hits. It took me back to the 80's and I wish I could've stayed there for a while. I want to clear up something too. HEAVY D IS NOT DEAD. He didn't die in an airplane crash. He is still alive and kicking.

I can sum up this album in one word: BRILLIANT. The late, great Heavy D will go down as one of the greatest rappers of all time. His rhymes are, as the kids say, dope. I really enjoy the songs when Heavy D slows it down. Now That We Found Love, shoot, I've conceived 3 kids to that song, and once my stereo gets fixed and wife starts talking to me again (long story, do not want to go into that now) look for number 4 to follow. The day I found out that Heavy D had died in that plane crash, well, a big part of me died that day too. Accidents happen everyday, but a 400 pound rapper plunging toward the earth at incredible speeds, well, that my friend is a national disaster. Buy this album. Pass the legacy of Heavy D's on to your children. Chunky but funky...that's how I try to live my life.

I always dug Heavy D&The Boyz&especially during the New Jack Swing era when Heavy D&The Boyz were working with Teddy Riley,"We got our own thang"&also "Is it Good to You" are my Jams.Heavy D&The Boyz were able to maintain there own thing&just blend with whatever was happening&keep on going with the flow.alot of fun Jams here&brings back cool reflections from the past with some of these Jams.

Needs more songs.......2007-06-02

While the selection of songs is good, it does need more songs added. A couple of songs from the first two albums should have made it and the singles from the Sunset Park and NJ Drive soundtracks are some of her best work.

Coulda Been A Lot Better!.......2005-06-02

I've been a Latifah fan since '88. Therefore I was very disappointed when I saw the tracks chosen on this collection. Where's "Dance For Me", her first video single or "Ladies First (the song that got her more acknowledgement). Also "Come Into My House", "Fly Girl", and "Can't Understand". Although I think Latifah is one of the greatest femcees to bless a mic, this lineup doesn't do her any justice. And to make matters worse, U.N.I.T.Y is edited. Most of the tracks are from "Black Reign," which I do think is her best album. But still her debut album, "All Hail the Queen" should've got more acknowledgement than just one track, especially when it came out during a time when females HAD to have mic skills to compete with the men (during 80's Golden Age, you had to be tight.) For every true old school QL fan, the best albums to get are Black Reign & All Hail the Queen. Nature of a Sister & Order in the Court are good as well, but not as great. Nonetheless, this album is definitely NOT the BEST of Queen Latifah.

A great Collection. 4.5 stars needs improvement.......2005-04-12

This cd is a promising collection of some of Queen Latifah's Greatest hits. My only problem is that it is censored. "U.N.I.T.Y." is nothing without the use of the words "B!+(#" and "H0". That takes away the whole meaning of the song : Females standing up for themselves when called names.

Together with the Genius of Rick James Behind the Boards as Writer,Producer,Arranger, Conceptionalist,etc... the Mary Jane Girls struck big time with alot of jams back in the day."In My House" is still slammin. also the Stone City Band's trademark sound is well represented here as well. these Jams are still banging."Candy Man" with that strong Synth Funk is banging. also "all night long" still grooves as it did back in the day. the Mary Jane Girls haven't gotten there full due,but there music still holds up very well.

Not A Complete Public Enemy Collection.......2005-01-30

Public Enemy is a legendary rap group that produced many great songs, definitely more than the 11 that are chosen for this 20th Century Masters Collection disc. All of the songs that are included are great, however I would have added a few more and I would have included album versions, not radio edits. Where are songs like "Public Enemy Number 1", "He Got Game", "Rebel Without A Pause", "Black Steel", "Burn Hollywood Burn", and "Can't Trust It"? Without those you only have a small portion of what Public Enemy has to offer. Hopefully someday Def Jam will release a true greatest hits package.

THIS IS PURE CRAP!!!.......2004-06-26

Releasing an album like this does more disservice to P.E. than it helps. And for true hardcore fans, this isn't an album worth even looking at.

Where are the real Public Enemy tracks on here that really symbolized what the group was all about. How in the hell do you even think of leaving off "Black Steel In The Hour of Chaos" which by far is the bangin-est track P.E. ever produced, followed by leaving off "Rebel Without A Pause". Who are these idiots who create these compilations? Not to mention "Burn Hollywood Burn" w/Ice Cube, "MIUZI WEIGHS A TON", Pete Rock's version of "Shut Em Down", Brother's Gonna Work it Out, the single inspired by the VA BEACH riots over a decade ago, "Public Enemy Number 1", and of course one of the most sampled drum tracks in hip hop, "B-Side Wins Again". I rate this a big fat ZERO. I couldn't get zero on Amazon so I'll give it a Zero in my review. A Group like P.E. deserved at least a double CD if not a 3 Disc Set. Don't waste your money. You'll come out better just buying all their albums.

Great Collection From Rap's Founding Fathers.......2004-06-17

Public Enemy is one of my favorite rap groups ever. And this album is one of my favorite albums ever. It includes all the best songs from this group, including their collaboration with speed metal band Anthrax on a remake of 'Bring The Noise'. It also includes the original 'Bring The Noise', plus all the other songs that made Public Enemy Public Enemy. This is a best bet for a rap newbie.

Too Few Tracks........2004-04-14

The tracks on this album are great of course because it's Public Enemy. I just want to know why there where so many omissions. I could name you 15 but let's just say that in order to really get the Public Enemy experience you have to listen to all their work.

Where is Ego Trip.......2004-05-31

I have been looking for Ego Trip on cd for 10 years. This is a good Blow cd but you could get all these songs, they are just repackaged. Basketball, AJ Scratch, and 8 Million stories were on ego trip and yes they were the hits. But Under Fire and Fallin Back in Love, and I can't take it no more, were all old school masterpieces that should be reissued on cd, ego trip where are you?

I'm a big fan of the old school rap artists, particularly Kurtis Blow. I believe that his record "Ego Trip" should be rereleased on CD. I've been trying to find the song "Under Fire", which just blew me away when I heard it. I love all the songs on this CD, but Ego Trip is something special. If all the old school music could be rereleased on CD, somebody would be making a lot of money. Kashif has just rereleased his 1983 album on CD, and there is no where else that sells it except his website. So get busy!
