Kimbrum.......2006-06-13
I loved the music. There's a classical piece that is played when they are in the house... it's dark & sinister... anyone know who the musician is?
I keep returning to this haunting score.......2006-02-28
Jerry Goldsmith has been my favorite contemporary movie composer since the 60's (Lilies of the Field, The Blue Max)up until his last scores (Timeline). In retrospect the score to Sleeping With the Enemy should seem like a minor work among so many major masterpieces, but since his death I keep returning to this hauntingly beautiful music more than any of his others. The touching melody and the unique chord changes of the main theme move me immensely. I've had this soundtrack for years but it was only in the past year or so that I've started to repeatedly listen to it.
It's not a long score and it includes the Van Morrison classic Brown Eyed Girl, but the combination of the memorable theme and some throbbing piano driven suspense music make it a winner.
At first I wondered if I should write a review because when I started to read the previous entries I thought I had entered a chat room, finally I read a couple of actual reviews- something I think this music deserves.
musical score.......2005-10-25
The clasical music you are looking for is Hector Berlioz' "Symphonie Fantastique". Good luck. Sorry for the low stars, I'm not that big a fan.
Anyone remember?.......2005-10-23
Does anyone remember who the classical composer/piece was that Julia Roberts' character in the movie stated she did NOT like? Thanks for your help!
Dance scene in drama hall.......2005-09-14
There is a scene where Ben and laura/sarah are dancing (after/before dressing up in wigs etc)in the drama hall then a 1950s/60s (i think) song comes on.
Could anyone tell me the name of the song and the artist?, thanks =)
The film: Lacked a fullfilling plotline and script, wtachable though, nice musical score.

Truly a beautiful rendition of extraordinary talent............2005-02-21
When I first purchased this cd, my original intent was for the soundtrack of Star Trek, which has always been a favorite of mine. I was also motivated by the fact that the orchestra performing is the London Philharmonic, which I consider one of the finest in the world. To this day, this cd stays in my player at bedside. When hearing the news that Mr. Goldsmith had passed away last year, I decided to purchase the 6 cd collection in his memory from Fox. This mans talent was truly a rare and extraordinary gift which he shared with us. I have given this cd as a gift several times because I felt I was giving a wonderful, moving, inspiring rendition of the exquisite talent of this man. If you are not familiar with Mr. Goldsmith, give this cd a chance and I believe you will continue pursuing the mood and music of Jerry Goldsmith, who will be missed for decades to come.
Pure Gold from Maestro Goldsmith.......2004-08-04
Some time ago I reviewed Jerry Goldsmith's outstanding score for "Star Trek Nemesis." At that time I remarked that the tones and secondary themes seemed to be almost a farewell to the Enterpise. It is only fitting that Maestro Goldsmith's musicians gave him standing ovations as they finished recording several cuts for that score. Now, of course, that "farewell" is so poignant. A number of years ago, my wife and I attended a concert with the Maestro conducting the Utah Symphony Orchestra in Salt Lake City. The program was essentially the same as we find on this grand album. We stood and gave Maestro Goldsmith a standing ovation, and a loud "Bravo!" then, and wish we could do it again. This is representative collection of the Maestro's work that is well worth having. A fitting tribute to a genius in his field. Nicely produced and packaged. For those of us who grew up with Goldsmith it is hard to say farewell. Bravo and yeia sou!
Goldsmith's Gold.......2004-03-04
Jerry Goldsmith is one of the greatest film composers of all time. He has written so many great scores on so many different themes that he is kind of taken for granted by his fans and listeners. This CD is an excellent introduction to Goldsmith's music and his immense range in musical themes and styles. Some of my favorites like "Islands in the Stream" and "Medecine Man" are missing but on one CD only so much can be represented. Goldsmith always gives us original themes of great originality and emotive power. His music blends well with the movies and he is one of our best narrative music composers. I'm happy that so much of great film scores like "Boys from Brazil," are included on this CD,when Goldsmith takes the Vienese Waltz of happiness and turns it into a Nazi Waltz of evil with strains of Wagner, Hitler's favorite composer, blended seamlessly into the score. "Patton" could have been better represented as it is easily one of Goldsmith's most recognizable scores and a classic. Whether it is action, love themes, horror, Goldsmith was and is always up to the task to create great film scores, most which stand on their own as any great symphonies of sound. Buy this and explore many of his other great scores and many are classics and out of print and this CD will give listeners a taste of what this grand master film composer can do and is still doing. Grand music on any scale. Highly recommended.
money ill spent.......2002-06-24
Many years ago, Sony and John Williams collaborated on an album of Star Wars favorites. I suspect someone at Telarc thought the same magic would work with Jerry Goldsmith and the LSO. Alas.
While the pieces chosen show a good cross-section of Goldsmith's crativity, the execution is seriously lifeless. It is as if the compositions were left to saute' overnight in Symphony Sauce: the performances are plodding and pedestrian. I don't know who convinced Goldsmith to do it this way, but omitting the martial snare roll at the beginning of the Man from U.N.C.L.E. theme, or not adding at least an accordian to the Waltons theme, are just two examples of how Goldsmith's great work has been emasculated by, I suspect, some record exec's insight. If you want to hear these pieces as originally written and performed, you'll have to start searching on other albums. Good hunting, and let us know what you find.
A good example of Goldsmith's range, but..........2002-05-17
...the quality of many performances are lower than they ought to be, which is astonishing in light of the reputation of the London Symphony Orchestra. This notwithstanding, there's enough to justify getting one's hands on this item. For me, the high point of the album is the medly of television themes composed by Goldsmith, which begins with a hellacious musical argument for the revival of *The Man From U.N.C.L.E.* as a theatrical film. (Hell, if they can resuscitate that bletcherous bore *Mission: Impossible* to make not one but two big-budget buckets of bilge, *The Man from U.N.C.L.E.* ought to attract plenty of attention, particularly if it's done with a sense of humor similar to that which informed the old TV show.)
The other problem with this album is the selection of cuts. For example, almost anything could have been better chosen from the film *Rudy* but the highly sedative passage recapitulated here, and the entirely inadequate dose of the theme from *The Wind and the Lion* incorporated in this album comes at the tail of an 18-minute medly of lesser stuff through which the average fan of *The Wind and the Lion* has no wish to sit. We've heard the theme from the first *Star Trek* movie endlessly; why not a variation on the nasty elegence of the Klingon theme from that and subsequent *Star Trek* films? Goldsmith also wrote other incidental music for *The Man from U.N.C.L.E.* -- so why not a re-visit of "The Man from THRUSH" (or the original program music "THRUSH Raid") and suchlike?
*The Film Music of Jerry Goldsmith* is reasonably good, but by no means the best to be had. It whets the appetite, but doesn't satisfy.

One of the best rap albums EVER!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-11-07
This album just blew me away. I had to go on a major expedition for it when it came out because many stores weren't carrying it. (He got a lot of derogatory press for his song "Bush Killa", and I guess retailers caved under the pressure.) It was worth the effort though. This is one of those few albums where EVERY SONG IS AWESOME. This is not an exaggeration. Every single song on this album is fantastic. Most albums have a good song or two, maybe a few at most, but ALL THE SONGS????? That almost never happens. And for the more politically conscious, this album is as relevant today as it was the last time a Bush sent soldiers to Iraq. It's an album that makes you think without being pretentious, if you haven't banged all the brains out of your head from the beats in the songs. This is an album that should have blown up, not been buried under the parade of booty shaking bling wearing sizzurp drinking drivel that has assailed my ears in the past decade or so, and it belongs in everyone's collection. It's as good today as it was back in '92/'93 when it originally came out.
No sophomore jinx here!.......2006-10-16
Standout tracks: MAKE WAY FOR A PANTHER, SLEEPING WITH THE ENEMY, HOUSE N---AS BLEED TOO, BUSH KILLA(original and hellraiser mix), COFFEE DONUTS AND DEATH, THINKA BOUT IT, GUERRILLAS IN THE MIST, THE DAYS OF OLD, CONSPIRACY OF SILENCE, CHECK IT OUT CH'ALL and ASSATA'S SONG(beautiful ode to black women). Filler: NONE! Bottom line: Paris comes back with an album that is even better than his first one. Political and socially conscious rhymes flood this album as Paris steps his production game up a notch(not that his beats before were bad) and gives mainstream america something to fear. Its unfortunate that not many people(even those who are conscious) have never heard of him. If you like Public Enemy, Dead Prez and The old Ice Cube then youre gonna like this one. Chalk this one up as another certified classic by one of the most underrated rapper of all time!
WOW!! A True Classic Indeed!.......2006-04-21
This album is the best CD he has done BAR NONE! I love all of his CDs and I own all of them. However, if I'm asked which one of his CDs really stand out in my mind, it would definitely this one. Placing the events of that time into a raw flow that gives you no choice to listen while boppin' your head to the beat is brilliance at its finest. In fact, this CD stands the test of time.
Paris has all that it takes to be a legend before his time. In fact, this brother is ahead of his time in terms of talent and knowledge. This is a HIGHLY recommended masterpiece that should be REQUIRED listening for people who want more out of their entertainment and a message in their music.
GREAT ALBUM!.......2006-03-27
Paris as always brings hardcore powerful music with a message and this album is one of his best. I reccommend this reissued version cuz the sound quality is better and he did a nice job remastering it. Sadly many people sleep on this album because it is kind of unknown due to its content being so raw. Paris doesn't hold anything back and that's just one of the many reasons why i respect him so much. Buy this along with all his albums. If you like Public Enemy or Dead Prez then this should fit you well.
Classic.......2005-04-27
I am not very giving with 5 star reviews, but I believe this album qualifies as a classic. Paris has always brought political fire, but this album displays him at his most angry, yet also his most insightful and poignant.
"Make Way for a Panther" begins the album with a bang, with Paris at his venemous best. The next several songs are slightly towned down, with the exception of the infamous revenge fantasy "Bush Killa". "Coffee, Donuts and Death" leads me to the only complaint I have about this album. The song opens with police officers talking to a (presumably black) woman, it would have been much better to make the intro a seperate track.
Suprisingly, it is Paris's more sensitive tracks like "days of old" and "Assata's Song" that seem to resonate with me the most, proving that Paris is a diverse emcee capable of rage and introspection.
This is a classic album that is a must for any good hip hop collection. If Paris's label had not delayed its release until after the election of 1992, he could have very well blown up and become a household name. You won't be dissapointed with this purchase, especially if you like early 2pac, Ice Cube, Public Enemy or X-Clan.

Customer Reviews:
I know who Paris voted for..........2005-01-13
This was a super-militant release from the Black Panther rapper. The album is feverishly anti-Bush in its message.
Paris uses militant beats to match up with militant raps; however, it's not quite on par with Public Enemy's work at the time.
It's quite good in its conscious efforts. Overall some songs are off the target, but there are a few good keepers.
This was very shocking for its time - Paris had a hard time getting any press as the government wanted his releases silenced.
So this album becomes more interesting now that Bush is president, again. It's worth the cheap used price.
Strong Follow-Up.......2004-11-20
While this album isn't as strong as 'The Devil Made Me Do It,' I wouldn't go as far as saying that Paris fell victim to the sophomore jinx. Released in 1992, this album reiterated many of the same themes that his first album addressed (black-on-black violence, police brutality, etc). However, this time, he also took aim at George Bush Sr. 12 years later, this album still holds true with George Bush Jr. in the White House. The song 'Bush Killa' definitely has some renewed significance.
Still, this album is dope, and it is definitely a must-have for anyone's Bay Area collection or political/conscious rap collection. Overall, 'Sleeping With The Enemy' is a good album.
bush killa.......2003-07-22
Bush killa is a strong album. With lyrics that still ring true today. Hard hitting beats.
Amazing!.......2003-03-25
Paris puts the Black Panther into Hip-Hop in an amazing way! Beautiful political lyrics, beats, artwork, the whole nine yards. If you love Ol' School Public Enemy, you LOVE this! No doubt about it!
