I've loved this album for years and followed it from vinyl to cassette and now lovingly to CD. Great work on this CD and agree with others that the releases before and after lacked each to rough editing and over pop respectively. "A Pleasure" is one of my all-time favorite moody songs.

Melodic pop, smooth production.......2005-01-06

Far more polished than their gloriously rough edged debut, "Recurrence" smooths out the edges and delivers outstanding music. Probably the best of TRC CDs, the subsequent shift to dancier syth tunes gained them popularity at the expense of their roots.

A great mix of laid back tunes sees TRC really shining. "Somewhere South" is outstanding, check out the piano bridge. The CD is really a winner from start to finish.

Highly recommended.

Recurrence of great songs!.......2003-12-18

The Railway Children are one of the most overlooked and underrated bands ever. Too intelligible for the shoegazer movement, and not heavy enough for the changing alternative rock movement of their time, The Railway Children did not become a big commercial success. Their highest-charting single "Every beat of the heart" was on Native Place, the album after this one. Recurrence showcases the band in their transition from underground status to major-label act, before they experimented with mild dance/pop instrumentations. You'd probably like Recurrence if you like The Smiths and early R.E.M. Recurrence could be described as mid to late 80's college-radio jangly guitar pop with major-label polished productions. Even though that description probably fit hundreds of bands around that time, The Railway Children still had a unique sound. While all the songs are very good on Recurrence, "A pleasure" is arguably their crowning achievement. In its entirety, this album provides a habit-forming, as well as pleasurable, listening experience.
