Less successful when it's sentimental (Waylon Jennings' "My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys") than when it's wry (Willie Nelson's myth-puncturing "Me and Paul"), this cash-in compilation of previously released cuts was just in time to grab the first platinum record ever awarded a country album. It's not bad, but both Jennings' contemporaneous Dreaming My Dreams and Nelson's Red Headed Stranger are more nuanced tastes of the good-bad-but-not-evil-ol'-boy lifestyle. (Not to mention much of Tompall Glaser's own Outlaw compilation.) This 1996 CD reissue adds nine more tracks from the era as well as a new Jennings-and-Nelson version of Steve Earle's "Nowhere Road." --Rickey Wright

5 out of 5 stars THE BIRTH OF THE "OUTLAW MOVEMENT" IN NASHVILLE ! (and the rest of the world, too).......2007-07-11

Wanted: the Outlaws (1976) is the album that changed country music forever. Although most of the songs on the album had been previously released, the way it was all packaged and marketed reached an audience that hadn't been interested in this genre before, young rock music fans. The album cover featured photos of the long-haired, bearded, and rugged-looking Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Tompall Glaser, along with Waylon's attractive wife, Jessi Colter, on an old wild-west WANTED! poster. The music inside is a collection of country music, most of it on the rowdy side, with a couple of catchy ballads by Jessi. Waylon and Jessi sing an energetic duet on Elvis' Suspicious Minds. Willie sings of a musician's rowdy life on the road in Me And Paul, and then creates a thoughtful barroom scene in Yesterday's Wine. Waylon's at a bar, too, but he's country rocking with his song, Honky Tonk Heroes. He also sings the reflective My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys. Jessi's ballads, I'm Looking For Blue Eyes and You Mean To Say are very good, and she's a great singer. Waylon and Willie duet on Heaven And Hell, and their co-written anthem Good Hearted Woman, which includes an audience track to sound "live". Tompall adds his country-rock version of Jimmie Rodgers' T for Texas and the hilarious Put Another Log On The Fire. The album sold millions, and opened the door for a new brand of country music that would dominate the scene for the next decade. Even ol' Buck and Roy started sporting beards on the TV series Hee Haw, and so did Glen Campbell! Other country singers, like Hank Williams, Jr., David Allan Coe, and Johnny Paycheck got on board, and older outlaws like Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard enjoyed new interest in their careers. Country rock acts, like Charlie Daniels and The Marshall Tucker Band joined in, and the "Outlaw Movement" became an influential force in contemporary music. This 20th anniversary issue is well put together, remastered to sound better than ever, and includes many songs that weren't on the original. The songs are listed as "The Original", "The Lost", and "The New". "The Original" are the songs that were included on the original release. "The Lost" are previously released songs by the singers as separate artists. The best of these are Waylon's (I'm A) Ramblin' Man and Slow Movin' Outlaws, Willie's You Left A Long, Long Time Ago and Healing Hands Of Time, and the duets with Waylon and Jessi. "The New" is the Steve Earle produced Nowhere Road, which is a new country rocker that features Waylon and Willie together. Wanted: The Outlaws is an important country music album, a peice of history, really, and is essential for every fan of country music, or music in general.

4 out of 5 stars Wanted: The Outlaws.......2007-05-28

I think this reissue of the 70's classic is a perfect example of less being more. I am not certain if any of the new additions make this CD better than the first version. In fact, to be honest, I think the first version is a 5 star classic, while this reissue overall deserves a solid 4 stars. My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys is the best of the bunch here, while the cover of Suspicious Minds is outstanding. I always loved the two songs from Colter, and I think the addition of more from her lessens the overall impact of You Mean to Say and Looking for Blue Eyes. A great CD. The sound here is fantastic.

5 out of 5 stars One of the Classics!.......2007-03-09

I have wore mine out. I need to buy a new copy.

5 out of 5 stars Texas music.......2007-03-08

A real gem and the heart of the outlaw country music movement. The recent re-release with the songs added that didn't make the first album is a nice addition to any collection. Makes you wonder why they didn't include them the first time around. Who knows. If you thought it was great on vinyl you'll love it on cd, just a Fantastic album!

4 out of 5 stars Original Was Better.......2007-02-28

In agreement with most of the reviews here, if you love the 70's country music so-called outlaw movement, you will love the music here, I have the original on a still working 8 track, I was very excited to get an
expandanded edition of this on disk, but to be honest, the longer edition looses something for me, I do "like" Jessi Colter, but as we all know, she does not carry this album, extra tracks included 3 Jessi solos in a row, then 2 Jessi duets with Waylon, that part of the Cd was a bit much for me, but besides that one pont, this is still a great set of tunes and an essential part of country music history to own.

Hilary Duff stares off the cover of Most Wanted with the look of a doe-eyed, feathered-haired criminal. Or maybe she's just exhausted, which would explain why she revisits so much already-released material. Three of the teen queen's biggest, brightest hits ("Come Clean," "Rock This World," and "Why Not") get the remix treatment. Impossible though it seems, each remix is still zippier than the original. Perennial fave "So Yesterday" is squished between the hard-rockin', deeply satisfying "Mr. James Dean" from 2004's Hilary Duff and the too-girlie-for-its-own-good "Metamorphosis" from the same-named 2003 disc. There are three originals including opener "Wake Up", a slightly self-pitying look inside the celebrity glass bubble, but to a great beat, the danceable "Beat of my Heart," and emo-esque "Break My Heart." The burning question of whether it's worth it to buy this record based on the inarguably good remixes and three original tracks will be dictated by how severe her fan base's withdrawal symptoms are. If magazine covers bear any relation to the old practice of plastering a town with "wanted" posters, odds are Duff's zillions of fans will not only find this disc but help her deliver on its smart title's promise. --Tammy La Gorce

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Duff Redone.......2007-07-02

This is just a repackaging of the stuff from Hilary's first 2 albums. Only 2 new songs, WAke Up and Beat of My Heart. Wake Up is pretty good; Beat of My Heart is rather childish. If you have Hil's first 2, no real need to get this.

3 out of 5 stars I'm Coming Clean.......2007-04-22

I like Hilary Duff's music, so sue me. My music tastes have always been much more id driven than my movie taste and I think that Duff represents that perfectly. Her movies are basically the cinematic incarnations of her songs (light, frothy, girly) and in my mind are almost universally bad. The only two that I will openly admit to liking are "Cheaper By The Dozen" and "Agent Cody Banks" and neither of those were vehicles built around her. Both of her art forms have the distinct taste of being cooked up in laboratory, but while the movies remind me of Spam the music goes down easy like a delicious Chicken McNugget.

"Wake Up", "Come Clean", and "So Yesterday" are three of my favorite pop songs of the past five years. "Wake Up", which I'm sure was supposed to be a melancholy take on celebrity lifestyle but ends up sounding like a disingenuous princess whining is a near perfect bubblegum song. It slaps around pretty much everything the blond bimbos of the 90's put out and I could listen to that song all day. And I certainly do not trust anybody who tells me that they are not charmed by the melody of "So Yesterday." Yes all these songs were written by people other than Duff and are extremely guilty pleasures. But do you want my honest take on this album or do you want me to lie. This is a greatest hits album so I have to deduct some points just to be fair. It is a great collection of songs to be sure, but it represents many years and many albums. I'm sure that I am saving myself a whole lot of pain and suffering by skipping over the filler on the previous albums and just sticking to the good stuff (go on and laugh). Also, I have no intentions of defending her weak points as an artist. She is what she is, which is a spoiled, rich Momma's girl who has probably never made one career decision in her entire life. She has never taken on a project, in music or film, that is the least bit challenging or edgy. Instead she has stuck with her Disney Channel created image and tried to ride that as far as it would take her. Or put another way, there is a difference between saying a girl can rock and a girl actually rocking. Personally, I blame her emotionally weak mother whose name shows up on way too many gossip pages, but what do I know?

I am assuming that most of you are snickering at me right now, very secure in your knowledge that you are far too sophisticated to listen to anything as silly as this. But I strongly urge you to get over your pretensions. And no, I have no interest in hearing from the music snobs either since every one of you I have ever met has had the most corporate movie taste imaginable. Word on the street says that on her new album Duff writes her own lyrics, but I have yet to hear it. "Most Wanted" sounds like it was written for 10 year old girls, and it probably was, and still it got plenty of spins on my CD player. ***1/2

5 out of 5 stars I love every one!.......2007-04-08

I love every album, hilary Duff rules. All her albums are soooooo good!I love them.I have a lot of Hilary duff stuff.Only a few examples:one album, hil duff tee, hilary duff backpack, and MUCH more.It would take years to name! But I think anyone who love hilary Duff, you should buy this product. And,maybe even all her albums!I got it as an Easter present, you could end up with one too! (love this product)

4 out of 5 stars Not really the "Most Wanted" songs.......2007-02-25

I own this cd and like it. But I have all of her other cds so really this cd had nothing new except the 3 new songs. Break My Heart and Beat of my Heart are sort of the same. I think she should have done a different title, there too much alike. This is a good cd for first time Hilary listeners, because it has all of her best. But it seems like the "best" of Hilary wasn't what I thought were the best songs of her. But I would recemend this cd to those who don't know Hilary's music yet, and want to hear what she's like.

2 out of 5 stars She's going down "Hil".......2007-02-14

I don't own this album and personally would never want to. I do have Metamorphosis, but I bought that when I was 15 years old. I listened to a few songs on here because of an article I read stating the worst albums in each genre. This was one of them. Being a former Hilary Duff fan, I decided to check it out.
If you like a girl who's trying to be in the rock genre, but doing very poorly at it, this album is for you.

The magical triad behind Rushmore's spunky, starry-eyed soundtrack--music supervisor Randall Poster, composer Mark Mothersbaugh, and director Wes Anderson--leaps forward a decade from that beloved soundtrack's '60s gems, in the process adopting a more pensive feel for The Royal Tenenbaums' musical backdrop. It may lack the euphoric sing-along feel of, say, Creation's "Makin' Time," but the rock and folk tracks here perfectly match the film's crumbling characters and their dilapidated relationships. The Ramones' "Judy Is a Punk" is a burst of nostalgic rebellion but surely causes a sad twinge in light of Joey Ramone's untimely death in 2001; gloom-folker Nick Drake's "Fly" and Elliott Smith's excellently depressing "Needle in the Hay"--which is used to chilling effect during a wrist-slashing scene--further deepen the dark thread running through Tenenbaums. But those who prefer the sunny disposition of Rushmore will be thrilled by the calming concoctions of Mothersbaugh, who heralds the coming of a new scene with graceful woodwind/string parts ("Scrapping and Yelling") and playful sitar pieces ("Pagoda's Theme"). Throw in the Clash's squalling "Police & Thieves" and the Velvet Underground's petal-soft "Stephanie Says" and you've got another winning soundtrack from the film biz's most in-tune music lovers. Tenenbaum or not, you can go home again. --Kristy Martin

4 out of 5 stars Help trying to figure out the title of a song.......2006-04-17

Hey, maybe you guys can help me, does anyone know the title of the song playing on a radio while owen wilson is getting high (or preparing to do so) with his friends and his dad and brother step in and tell him they want to help him. I really love that song and i have no idea what the title is

4 out of 5 stars omitted song.......2006-02-01

For anyone interested, one song which was omitted from the soundtract which has not been mentioned is:

Emitt Rhodes - Lullabye

A beautiful track played in the scence where Royal is lying in his bed sucking down a shake and reading a book when Chas say "lights out old man" and switchs off the light. One of my fav songs in the movie along side the rolling stones - she smiled sweetly. sadly both songs were omitted but still a beautiful soundtrack.

4 out of 5 stars Where's Van Morrison?!.......2005-03-16

This is a near-perfect collection of 60's and 70's pop and folk. The sad but hopeful vibe of the songs fits the movie's tone perfectly and you can't really agrue with songs like "Stephanie Says." it's also nice to hear the two Nico cuts since Nico's solo work really doesn't get the acclaim it deserves these days. My problem with this album is that it favors symphonic songs from the film instead of pop songs also used in it such as "Ruby Tuesday" and Van Morrison's "Everyone." I'm really bummed about the exclusion of "Everyone" because i thought it closed the movie so well. They should have released the score and the soundtrack separately so all these great songs could be included.

1 out of 5 stars The Royal Tenenbaums Soundtrack.......2005-03-14

The Collector's Edition Soundtrack leaves out two great Rolling Stones' tunes She Smiled Sweetly & Ruby Tuesday. Also left to the winds is John Lennon's Look at Me, the Clash's Rock the Kazbah. The First Edition leaves a few tunes off too but it is a far better Soundtrack. Puckstar

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars These guys coulda been contenders..........2007-06-15

..and in a better world, the Rubinoos would've been stars. The proof's in this sparkling three-disc set. If you like guitar-driven melodic pop with soaring harmony vocals and some tongue-in-cheek humor thrown in for good measure, it doesn't get much better than this. The obvious influences are '60s-era Beach Boys and the Raspberries, but the Rubinoos' music stands on its own merits and is well worth discovering.

If you're already a Rubes' fan, the best reason to buy this set is the terrific remastering job. I offer in evidence "Rendezvous," an Andy Paley song originally recorded for--then left off of--the band's 1978 long-player BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD. I'd heard this song previously on their 1994 rarities collection GARAGE SALE, where it sounded like a 16-year-old outtake. Not any more. Now it leaps out of the speakers, sounding like the Beach Boys produced by Phil Spector, background vocals and castanets right in the room with you. Amazing. And pretty much every song sounds this good (who knew there was so much bass to be found in those old Beserkley tapes?) There might also be the odd track you haven't found elsewhere, like the Rubes' title song from the "Revenge Of The Nerds" soundtrack, or their cover of the Raspberries' "Cruisin' Music." The previously unreleased 1978 Hammersmith Odeon concert also included here is just icing on the cake.

So buy this box to either discover a wonderful, unjustly-neglected band, or to hear familiar songs sound better than they ever have before. You win either way.

5 out of 5 stars Power Pop Classics from the Rubinoos.......2007-04-20

Simply put the Rubinoos are one of the Greatest Power Pop Bands of all time! And while this really does NOT include "Everything " it does a great Job by featuring all of the Songs from their first Two LP's and a ton of tunes from the rest of their 30+ year Career! What really makes this a must have is the Super Live Show featured on disc three from 1978. Energy galore!

5 out of 5 stars EAR CANDY.......2007-04-06

The Rubinoos are a talented band who did not get the recognition they deserved. They rock with hooks and leave the listener wondering who are these "guys"....Buy it,enjoy it and spread the word about THE RUBINOOS".

5 out of 5 stars An Embarrassment of Riches.......2007-04-05

These guys were way too good in the '70s, and they're still way too good. A band has that managed to draw on roots and influences and still sound totally fresh, The Rubinoos are LONG overdue for this sort of collection. Buy it now, and once you've had the tremendously fun experience of listening to it (and that's one of the great things about this great band--their music is just so damn much fun to listen to), buy another copy for your best friend. He or she will thank you. And speaking of thanks, here's to the band for all the music in this set, a document that shows how great they were at the beginning and that proves they haven't lost a step.

5 out of 5 stars Power pop at it's finest..........2007-04-04

You should not buy this set if you don't like hooky songs, great harmonies and incredible guitars. You should not buy this set if you don't like The Beatles, The Beach Boys and The Raspberries. Even if you already own Rubinoos LPs or CDs, the incredible mastering, the recently discovered and freshly mixed 1978 live performance from The Hammersmith Odeon makes this purchase a no-brainer. You've been warned, don't play cute.

4 out of 5 stars Actually these chaps were very wanted at the time.......2006-07-12

UKJ come into town on their one trick pony. The whole schtick of appealing to normal middle class kids desperate to think the world is against them.... Well the packaging sets that trick up nicely along with the title choice. Not to mention the song Neighbour as lead song.

But darn it all this pretty much works. Sure it's based on nothin' but air, a few squared off riffs and Whitfield Cranes engaging vocals but most of the time when you reach for the skip button something stops your hand. Tracks such as Come Tomorrow and Panhandlin' Prince work their witless charm though when the delve too deeply into whimsical territory things fall over (see Busy Bee).

Madman and Everything About You are regurgitated from the debut EP and everyone at the time became familiar with the bands take on Cats in the Cradle. This tune split many at the time - dunno 'bout you but I always felt the original spoke louder to parents, while UKJ's version with it's more youthful attack spoke more clearly to those not yet dads.

In summation a totally non essential release but definitely a good party album full of irreverent lyrics and simple cartoon style songs - some of which have some surprising heft such as Goddam Devil. Not to mention the closer, the track Mr Recordman which has a spark of maturity about it.

4 out of 5 stars I Liked It.......2006-03-18

This album is highly entertaining. Good lyrics, good rhymes, funny, catchy tunes, it's got everything. Everytime I listen to it, the world feels like a better place. A real mood uplifter.

3 out of 5 stars Average.......2005-03-14

This album I would say is average maybe a little above. I'd say it has two down falls lyrics and variety. All the songs kinda sound the same and are about the same thing. Basically the singer tries to hard to be "Metal". I'd say that if your looking for something very simular go for Skid Row or Motley Crue who do sound much like this band. The worst idea of all was however to cover the song "Cats In The Cradle". Heres why, the song is basically about a son and father who don't have enough time for each other. When the son is young he wants to spend time with his dad but he is too busy and when the dad gets older he wants to spend time with his son but he's too busy. Than to the to singing "And the cats in the cradle and the sliver spoon little jimmy... and the man on the moon" what is that supposed to mean. On the postive even though the songs sound a lot alike the instrumentals and singing got a different sound from typical metal. Plus with a name like that you'd think they would just be extremely terrible which they are not. In the end if you want a real metal cd stay away but if you like poppy music you may like this.

4 out of 5 stars I guess some things just can't compete with Blizzard Beasts.......2005-02-03

Before you decide whether to call someone's opinion helpful, read their other reviews. This CD was not overlooked in its time and yes, millions of people did in fact buy it. It is incredibly funny and the band is moderately musically talented. The lyrics are inane but the riffs and solos are top-notch.
As far as posterity goes, people will probably not buy a million more copies of this CD in the future. However, they will remember a few songs on it with a nod and maybe a chuckle. That's more than we can say for anything Overkill or Hollowman has produced or ever will produce.

4 out of 5 stars not for the serous-minded .......2004-11-01

this patrick dude is obviously jealous that his folk down under don't have any famous bands (except AC/DC and midnight oil, which are beyond anyone's notion of "bad"). i'm writing this review simply because i'm (...)that some (...)writing (...) about someone who's died very young in a tragic bike accident (whitfield's dead,...). this is one of the albums i grew up with so it sort of has a sentimental value for me. anyone who picks this up looking for superb musicianship, creative arrangements and deep, philosophical lyrics and sh*t is either misguided or just a(...). this is simply care-free, humorous biker/surfer/glam rock at its best. anyone who's heard "everything about you" knows what they're in store for. UKJ have later on actually taken a slightly more "serious" turn with "motel califiornia", but this is still a great album. fun to listen to. i listen to a lot of various (...), . but i like this just as same. a simplistic, fun and catchy album. perfect soundtrack for a ride by the beach on a hot summer's day (topped off with a cold beer, of course). they might not have a street named after them and they might not floor you with their mind-boggling musicianship and intricate lyrics and ideas, but in every person's life there are moments when you get sick of that cr*p (especially during the summer, when you feel just too good and light-hearted for anything else). well, "america's least wanted" just might be what you need right then.

5 out of 5 stars Wanted.....Mason Proffit recognized.......2007-05-08

It's very interesting how the music industry markets its product and how this very valuable gem slipped thru the cracks. In all my years of listening to good and obscured music, this one gets to the point and it flows through any era gradually, especially now. Like most who have heard these songs 'Two Hangmen' gives a kick and yelp to those who haven't had enough from The Byrds or even sitting and getting blazed with 'You Finally Found Your Love', so beautiful and yet brings tears to my eyes like losing a love one. All the songs here express the agony of establishment and maybe that could perhaps be the reason it didn't get much airplay. I like it, I own it and well worth the money for purchase. Let your mind expand and feel free with 'Wanted', you'll appreciate it.

5 out of 5 stars Great Music.......2006-10-31

Can be found as second half of "Come and Gone" if you want to pay the premium for the firts two albums on CD. Good music, meaningful again 40 years later (sadly) at any rate.

5 out of 5 stars timeless recording.......2006-09-06

I first heard Mason Proffit in 1971 (Two Hangmen). I wore the record out over the years and after 30 plus years I still listen the them, (now on CD. Two Hangmen is timeless and still makes ya think.

5 out of 5 stars country rock.......2006-07-18

Awesome incredable and on and on again but buy the double cd Come and Gone!!!!!! Best of the Best. It tells you something that you don't know or ever would have thought.

4 out of 5 stars Long overdue, yet poorly reproduced.......2006-06-21

Mason Proffit deserves much more than a poorly engineered re-issue of a wonderfully diverse and groundbreaking long player. From a listener's point of view, it sounds as if Wounded Records simply took the tape used for pressing the record and transferred it to disc. As I said, not what the Talbot brothers deserve. After 4 hours of work, I was able to get the sound to a listenable level through Sony Sound Forge technology. Unfortunately, this should have been done by Wounded Records. At least now I can enjoy the richness of the music and message of Mason Proffit that Wounded Bird should have provided in the first place.

5 out of 5 stars Mellencamp at his "Rockin'" Best!.......2007-01-27

Whenever We Wanted is my favorite John Cougar Mellencamp album, ah... you can tell how old I am because I didn't say CD. Scarecrow is probably most peoples favorite and definately his most popular. It's good, and it has a nice mix of acoustic folksey songs and some rockers. But, Whenever We Wanted is ALL pretty straight-forward Rock! When John walked into the recording studio on that first day he must of been in a really good mood and proclaimed to the band members there "Boy's, It's time to Rock!" This thing never slows down. It's a great buy at less than $10. And don't be afraid of a used copy of the original 1991 release. There is not much difference between them sonically. In fact, when I bought the remaster and compared them, I decided to keep my old copy 'cause it sounded so good, and the local retail outlet only wanted to give me $1 for it. No way. Recommended to Mellencamp Fans who grew up and/or like Scarecrow, Uh-Huh, and American Fool.

If you prefer his Folk music and acoustic stuff (nothing wrong with that) you might not enjoy this as much. For example, I never could get into Big Daddy or Mr. Happy Go Lucky.

5 out of 5 stars Mellencamp Returns To His Rock Roots Here.......2005-08-13

With WHENEVER WE WANTED, John Mellencamp drops the "Cougar" altogether and returns to his rock style and party-oriented lyrics from his early days, while continuing his deeper lyrical concerns. The remastering on this CD adds depth and definition to every single song, and the bonus cuts are quite interesting. Any serious Mellencamp fan must own this one.

5 out of 5 stars Hard Rockin' In the U.S.A........2005-08-11

This recording smokes in its new found glory via a new remastering. You will absolutely love the way the drums of Kenny Aronoff march in lockstep with the driving bass of Toby Myers. The icing on the cake is the cutting sounds of David Grissom on lead guitar and the rhythm chukka-chukka of Mike Wanchic. This is a great album to put in the CD deck of your auto and CRANK from start to finish. Mr Mellencamp has never been better. This album is an outright steal at the price I paid for it-$9.98! The perfect album to blow off steam. 10 stars is still too little.
An American Masterpiece by a great artist.

I actually heard track 1 (Highway One) while on a plane. The song impressed me so much that I looked up the album and bought it. I really enjoy this band. They are comparable to Little Big Town (but less folksy). Anyway, I recommend this CD to my friends. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Habit forming ... .......2007-07-12

I received this CD as a gift from an audiophile friend. It hasn't left my CD player since (which, quite honestly, is totally out of character for me). Great writing, wonderful harmonies, terrific hooks -- a masterful blend of simple and complex that just gets better with every listen.

    Product Description

Marley Marl remained on board, and Large Professor and Eric B. also hopped on to help produce Kool G Rap & DJ Polo's second album. With a wider range of sounds and the expansion of G Rap's lyrical range, "Wanted: Dead or Alive" is wholly deserving of classic status. The opening "Streets of New York" remains one of the most thrilling and unique rap singles released; the sparse rhythm, adorned with assured piano runs that complement the song to the point of almost making the song, falls somewhere between a gallop and a strut, and G Rap outlines more vivid scenes than one film could possibly contain. The track cemented their role as East Coast legends and showed Kool G Rap's talent as an adept storyteller like nothing before or since. Likewise, "Talk Like Sex" is the nastiest, raunchiest thing he ever recorded, with "I m pounding you down until your eyeballs pop out" acting as an exemplary claim, as well as one of the few that is printable, made in the song. The boasts, as ever, are in no short supply, but "Erase Racism" takes a break from the normal proceedings with guest spots from Big Daddy Kane and Biz Markie. It's both funny and sobering, with Biz's Three Dog Night chorus providing comic relief after each verse. This album is only part of a major swarm of brilliant rap records from 1990, but it will never be lost in it, and it's important because it's the release that influenced Rakim and Kane to step their game up to levels they didn't know they could go to. Cold Chillin' and Traffic proudly present "Wanted: Dead or Alive", available for the first time as a double disc set, including the original album, and a plethora of substantial bonus material, from artwork to audio. With all the songs being digitally re-mastered, this project has been thought out, done right and handled with care, and we hope you enjoy it.

They may be signed to Domino--the same label that unleashed Franz Ferdinand and Arctic Monkeys on the world--but the last thing London duo Galia Durant and Carim Clasmann want to do is pick up a guitar. Their second album is most notable for its pots-n-pans percussion and thrift store brass, which, when paired with a series of lavish electro-folk melodies, make the band sound like the Postal Service's exotic foreign cousin or a more homespun Stereolab. "Cosy in the Rocket" will already be familiar to fans of "Grey's Anatomy": it's the hit televisions series' theme song. The rest of the disc will sound reassuringly unfamiliar to all. --Aidin Vaziri

    Album Description

This London-based duo's formula of addictive melodies, electronic frolics, and found sounds have put them on the musical map. Silly noises married to sultry vocals and perspicacious lyrics produce recordings of shimmering originality and nascent charm. "The problem with a lot of electronic music is that it either takes itself too seriously or not seriously enough. Psapp offers the perfect solution: do both...knick-knacky sound effects, plucky violin, and whizzing bleeps over warm, elastic beats for a euphoric sound that's like a toy closet come to life" - SF Weekly.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great, diverse album.......2007-01-24

I, like, it would appear, most people, stumbled upon this band by accident. I went to see an acoustic guitarist in concert, and Psapp was opening. Since I arrived late (I'd never heard of the opener and didn't expect them to be too good,) I wandered into a wall of loud clunking sounds that made me want to dance more than anyththing Ive ever heard. So I bought the album and found not only these great, unique, and totally jamming dance numbers--played with squeaky toys and cans in concert--but some amazingly pretty and tuneful sons as well. I havent heard their first album, so I cant really speak to that, but this one, I assure you, is just great. Its always a good sign when so many people--just look through other reviews--like so many different tracks (My favorites are Tricycle, Needle and Thread, and hi). This should certainly not be tossed aside as simply a gimmick band. When the slight novelty factor of this band wears off, youre left with a really amazingly tuneful, well-written, and elegant album. A must-buy, in my opinion.

    5 out of 5 stars Can't Smoke Without It.......2006-12-11

Right now if I'm going to smoke out I have to have this album playing. It's like Seasame Street On Mushrooms. A must have in any collection.

4 out of 5 stars another good one.......2006-10-15

The Only Thing I Ever Wanted is slightly less whimsical and innocent, both lyrically and musically, than Psapp's first record Tiger, My Friend. But it's still Psapp, which means it's pretty whimsical and innocent and has lots of keyboards and cats.

The exceedingly British female vox, eclectic percussion and random noisemakers (including what seems to be a rubber duckie on Tricycle) that are Psapp's staple are all still on display, never fear. But where the last album was highlighted by cheerful numbers like "About Fun," this one has a somewhat more somber, mature, and at times almost world-weary air to it. Make Up is a simple piano-and-vocal ballad that is as thought-provoking as anything the band has ever done, but it's not exactly a happy song. King of You is sultry and downright cynical. This Way is a real downer (and also my least favorite track on this record).

But it's not just the words (and certainly not The Words, a cut which jumps with joy, albeit with a knowing smile: "Oh, I can't abandon this foolish notion, it's too much fun") that determine the mood in this album. The mixes are emotionally chillier this time around. But that doesn't make them worse: the change is quite by design, and works splendidly.

All told, The Only Thing I Ever Wanted is just as good as its predecessor, though I am slightly more predisposed to Tiger My Friend. If you liked Tiger, get this. If you didn't hear of Tiger, you should also get this, immediately after getting Tiger. This is no sophomore slump. Psapp is still in the game, and the music world is better for it.

Album highlights: Hi, King of You, The Words, Needle and Thread, Eating Spiders, and Tricycle, particularly Tricycle, which I adore.

5 out of 5 stars No Sophmore Slump.......2006-06-22

This album not only fulfills the quality of a Psapp album, it takes you on a journey to a wonderful place filled with luscious instruments and vivid songs, and of course, cats. Standout Tracks: "Hi", "King of You", "Eating Spiders".

This album is one of the best of the year!!

4 out of 5 stars A nice followup to Tiger My Friend.......2006-06-17

I, like many others, was hypnotized by 'Cosy in the Rocket', a portion of which is used in the ABC drama 'Grey's Anatomy'. I purchased Psapp's first US release, Tiger My Friend, in May 2005 and have listened to it often. I'm not a heavy music consumer but I didn't hesitate to purchase these CDs (support independent labels!) I preordered this album mere days before it was due to be released; I received it only one day after the release. I am listening to it for the second time. I'm not sure if it will grow on me like Tiger did, yet - time will tell. I can say that listening to the last track, 'Upstairs', is best experienced in a quieter room with immersive headphones - the sound effects of creaking floors above are uncannily real. I guess this album doesn't seem quite as experimental and unique to me, but that's okay.
