Minutes to Midnight stands to defend Linkin Park's status as the hardest-rockin' softies in mainstream music. Like its predecessors Hybrid Theory (2000) and Meteroa (2003), Minutes to Midnight flexes plenty of decibel-heavy muscle ("Given Up," "Bleed It Out," "No More Sorrow") and made-to-order, melodic radio fare ("Leave Out All the Rest," "Shadow of the Day," "In Pieces"). But for all its volume, Linkin Park likes to paint its heart openly on its sleeve with suspicious sonic drama, as in the palpably saccharine "Valentine's Day." Fortunately, co-producer Rick Rubin brings all these elements to pinnacle effect with the surprise "Hands Held High." On past efforts, the combination of breezy keyboard, arpeggiated guitar, choral vocals, and a military snare-beat would yield another slab of smarm, here MC Mike Shinoda drops the two best verses of his career, blending vocal styles with singer Chester Bennington for a moving piece that's as welcome a repertorial addition as Linkin Park is ever likely to muster. --Jason KirkAlbum Description

Different but done to perfection.......2007-07-31
great album.......2007-07-30
Un-inspiried drivel.......2007-07-27
On the contrary, change is a really good thing and the TRUE artists know that change = survival. If you look at all of the bands that are on their 4th + release, you will notice that most of them have adapted to survive amid failing genre and passing fads to evolve into a true vision of artistry. (expect of course bands that have found their niche' and stick with it - but we all know bands like that usually fall off sooner or later. The truly great artists evolve in syncopation with the evolution in their lives).
However, with that being said, Minutes To Midnight sounds contrived, un-inspired and rather bland. Linkin Park's newest offering is so dull that I literally got rid of this CD as soon as I aquired a copy of it (after much listening to try to decipher what exactly I as listening to).
Ditching the ground breaking style that flung Linkin Park into the lime light, they have instead adopted a more grunge/modern rock sound that has been done way too many times before by way too many bands. And that is my principle complaint with this record.
While change is welcome, a change to something more predictable and overplayed is highly un-original and rather annoying.
The musical direction on Minutes to Midnight never really goes anywhere, the guitar parts are rather repetitive and the lyrics are a disaster. Dreadful would be a better word, as the wordplay is horribly boring, lacking creativity and highly over played beyond repair. The rapping is weak and "mother-goose-ish" at best and could have easily been cut out of the album all together.
Musically, Linkin Park in Minutes to Midnight, resemble earlier 90's bands, and it almost seems as if they are trying to revive a long lost and forgotten style that was prominent in the 1990's. I suppose they felt that they needed to try something new and different, being that they had beaten the whole NU-Metal meets electronica meets pop into the ground.
-Don't get me wrong, I rather enjoyed their first two efforts and really enjoyed their re-mix album-
However, they fail miserably in their attempt to be "different" and "expand" and rather, instead of evolving, they de-evolve into an effort that seems rather forced for either the sake of a contract or money. Or both.
I disliked every single song on this album, each track could be skipped. On some of the songs, the intro starts out pretty decent, but then falls quickly downhill into drivel and garbage.
Chester's vocals sound so bad that I cringe at the sound of them. It really sounds as if he is trying to emulate a raspy, "smoked-too-many-cigarettes" tone a la' the grunge era and early 90's rock, but it sounds so cheesy and fake.
I admire and respect their desire to move on to different styles and such, but they either need to try harder or seriously sit down and do some much needed pondering. Linkin Park are truly talented people, but this album proves that they are either under the control of someone calling the shots, or they make horrible choices. Maybe that is why the lyrics are so angst filled and always lead into a full circle of depression/rage and pointlessness. Hmm...
I guess, in conclusion we shall truly see if Linkin Park have what it takes to be real musicians and artists, rather than the flavor of the week. Time weeds out the wanna bes and the passing fads.
Not their best.......2007-07-26
Just okay.......2007-07-26
I like "Given Up" and "What I've Done" (over-hype and all), and the rest of the songs are okay except "Bleed It Out" - that one just reminds me of a square dance and I always want to jump up and swing my partner. If you don't get distracted by the square dance beat, though, it's also an okay song.
Bottom line: this CD is not a total waste. It's just not as good as I thought it would be.

The joke of Licensed to Ill's cover--that the Beasties could crash their jet into the side of a mountain and keep on tickin'--serves as a good metaphor for a career that even some of their 1986 admirers thought might be over after the one-time-only shock of this full-length debut. That thousands of funk-junkie wannabes have since failed at re-creating its groove, breaking-the-law vibe, and ear-splitting mix of rock and rap is an even better joke. And funniest of all is the record itself, which packs dexterous boasts, aural puns, and lots and lots of yelling into a disc that can still be listened to with as much pleasure as it gave in '86. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:

Always a classic.......2007-06-09
The Beginning of the Beastie Boys' Dynasty.......2007-06-05
Formerly a punk-rock outfit called the Young & the Useless, New Yorkers Mike D, MCA and King Ad-Rock hooked up with Def Jam founder Rick Rubin in the mid-1980's to create a hip-hop masterpiece. Released in the fall of 1986, License to Ill took both the hip-hop world and mainstream pop culture by storm. Though this was their debut LP, the three MC's traded verses like veterans. Hip-hop rhythm tracks were combined with guitar licks for one of the first rap/rock fusion efforts, sowing seeds for the sub-genre's late 90's resurgence in the likes of Limp Bizkit and Rage Against the Machine.
Lyrically, the Beasties are basically college-age party animals throughout the album, telling wild stories about getting kicked out of White Castle, get-togethers stocked with Budweiser, and related tales of cheerful, hedonistic mayhem. In interviews, band members admitted to having a Schoolly-D fixation at the time, and so there are also some casual gun references here and there. "Slow and Low" covers an unreleased Run-DMC song, with the unforgettable line "White Castle fries only come in one size.." "Rhymin' & Stealin'" is pre-gangster rap pirate fantasy, where the Boys vow to send sucker MC's "to Davy Jones' locker.." "No Sleep `til Brooklyn" has a great guitar contribution by Slayer's Kerry King, as the Boys vow to keep the party going "eight days a week.."; the now-legendary "Paul Revere" is a cowboy fantasy (co-written with Run DMC) where the Beasties play desperadoes on the frontier, set to a reverse-drum track rhythm: "MCA was with it, and he's my ace, so I grab the piano player and I punched him in the face; piano player's out, the music stopped; his boy had beef, and he got dropped.."
The album's signature song was the top-10 pop smash "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right". The rocker is almost out of place amidst all the straightforward hip-hop, but it's just as well that it was the album's closer. The Beasties expanded the cultural diversity of rap as well as expanding its cultural acceptance worldwide.
As of 2007, the LP's 20th anniversary has already passed; a deluxe re-release is in order; it should include any unreleased songs (such as the early "Rock Hard" EP; also, bootleg releases have included rare songs like "Scenario", "I'm Down" and an alternate take of "Fight for Your Right"), as well as a DVD version of the now-rare VHS home video compilation.
The Joke Is..........2007-05-08
The joke, Mr. Wright, is not them crashing their jet into the side of a mountain and surviving, but rather what the image turns into when you unfold the album cover and hold it length-wise with the tail-end up. It's the image of a 'joint' being mashed out (like a cigarette in an ashtray). So I think the genius behind it works, making the obvious - unobvious.
Also, the call letters on the rear of the plane (3MTA3) actually spell 'EAT ME' when viewed in reverse - which is what is usually done when you're smokin' a fatty and 'Jake' is on ya.
As for the album itself - CLASSIC! True Beastie Boy gold!

"Optimistic and Calmer tracks".......2007-07-20
mature audience.
Mind you whenever new sounds are attempted, and performed successfully, they do not get immediate
recognition on behalf of what we're already accustomed to listening to. Linkin Park for example was
rejected the first 2 times they tried to make a contract with Warner Bro. Think of the mistake they
would've made, had they not signed a contract on the band's third try. We wouldn't have great
hits such as "In the End" and "Somewhere I belong." And think of how innovative there sound was
at the time 'Hybrid Theory' came out, it was like nothing heard before.
'Minutes to Midnight' gives you more aspects of what you want to hear from the band. With a little
more of the element of calmness in a few of the album tracks, you really get a chance to hear notes
sung or held out a little longer, clearer, and smoother from Chester(main singer). Which this
actually reveals the bands true range of abilities as musicians in pushing and stretching themselves
to create a newer sound and pull it off exemplary although they came from a history of anger filled
albums.
Optimism helps show some more of the bands depth. I have waited since their very first album to
hear the beautiful voice of Chester, and the rest of the band use their incredible sound as a whole,
to create something a little more optimistic. "Shadow Of The Day" - "What I've Done" - "Leave Out All
The Rest," show that kind of optimism. Which is what we need in such a negative world. At least, in
the midst of their lamentations of the war we can sing along to some happy tunes. And I do realize
they've done it before in Meteora, as far as more optimism-"Somewhere I Belong" "Breaking the
Habit. "
But, don't get me wrong, we are not to expect only this type of sound and optimism from this group.
We've learned to love their heavy rock and pessimism. After all, how many bands with screaming
"Shut Up when I'm Talking to You," can you say your mother would approve.(even my mom loves Linkin
Park!) "Given Up" and "No More Sorrow" are breakthrough in becoming some of their most angry heavy
songs. Because of this contrast, they can get away with some of the most mellow tracks they've written.
At an over all look, this band is getting better album by album. "The Little Things Give You Away"
to me is a great example of how awesome this band sounds now. Starting with a prerecorded beat,
an acoustic guitar comes in later & starts up the main melody. The vocals then come in, followed by the
drums being played in a unique sounding tempo. The song gradually develops as an intriguing
electric guitar solo comes in, accompanied by transcending vocals by Chester to leave his final touches on the album.
I only have just one important criticism to this album. Which is for you to remember to keep up
the bands consistency of non-profanity like their past albums, and purchase the edited version since
they already have a powerful enough sound with the geniousouly designed; 'dismal relationship' lyrics, and added clarification to them from back up vocals.

Best LP Album Yet ^_^.......2007-06-06
As for these losers complaining that it doesn't even sound like them... screw you. So they changed part of their style. How many songs did you expect them to make using the Nu-Metal sound without escaping that annoying "hey, this sounds just like their other song" comment? It's good they changed. A wise move and an awesome album. Kudos to you, LP. Keep it coming!!!!!

Minutes To Midnight is the definition of what one may call an audible odyssey, taking the listener on a roller coaster of a ride, but somehow managing to stay on track and not lose focus of what the concept of the album is all about. Ten years has passed and through these years, Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda's lyrical landscape has expanded to concepts listeners have never been exposed to. Several songs (No More Sorrow, The Little Things Give You Away, Hands Held High, and the first single 'What I've Done') encompass a political message. Unlike many rock bands today, Linkin Park decides to leave out their own agenda, and leaves one with a myriad of issues to think about and to make their own judgments.
Most noticeably different on this record is the fine addition of ballads and power ballads, a musical corridor Linkin Park has been hesitant to explore in the past. Luckily, Linkin Park does it quite well. Chester Bennington's transitional legacy as one of metal's most admired screamers and one of rock's finest singers is not omitted on this album. Rob Bourdon, already exposed as an extraordinary drummer, took his skills to the next level on this album. Also, with the assistance of Rick Ruben as producer, Dave Farrell aka Phoenix's bass lines are skillfully complex, loud, and clear, adding yet another new dimension to their tunes. The drop d guitar chords have all been put to rest, as beautiful guitar notes make their way onto virtually every track off of this album. And yes, they have in fact implemented guitar solos that transition beautifully into every song.
This will be Linkin Park's first album that has a Parental Advisory slapped on it. Although unnecessary, the Parental Advisory sticker is no indicator whatsoever of a curse-filled album. The F bomb gets dropped a few times on one track and a few other curses made their way onto two other tracks, but other than that, every track is clean as a whistle. Rumor had it that Mike Shinoda would no longer be providing a hip-hop insight on this album. While this is partially true, he sings, yes sings, on one track ("In Between") all by himself, he has a rap track all to himself delving into political issues using vocabulary and issues that many listeners will be left opening history books to. There is one song that instills the old Linkin Park formula ("Bleed It Out"), just as a reminder that they have not eradicated their roots.
All-in-all, this record will by far be Linkin Park's biggest adult audience-targeted album. The band has noticeably matured through their instrumentation, lyrical masterpieces, and thought-provoking sounds and images. A few months ago, asked about what he could say about the new sound on the new album, Linkin Park co-frontman Chester Bennington boldly stated, "The way we've been classified, and how people think they know us, that's all going to die." No lies were told when that statement was made. Without a doubt, when Minutes To Midnight is released on May 15, 2007, they will once again conquer the rock arena, raking in a new slew of fans, the more mature thinkers of today.
Linkin Park - Minutes To Midnight - 5 out of 5 stars.

Great album, another offering to my iPod from the generous library of Principal Dondelinger. It's at least half tongue-in-cheek but it's all great. I agree with other reviewers who have described the parody as more homage than mockery. The tracks vary but there is a nice consistent feel throughout, so it really flows as an album. The title suggests one way to utilize this music, but I've found this music to have potential even beyond being the soundtrack to the connubial shake-n'-fake. For example, my iPod likes to throw on "Pit Stop" and "Lies and Alibis" when I am walking alone at dusk, rundown by the day and the humidity.
Just listen to it. It's pretty unique. And I love the picture on the cover; I think it might be one of my Dad's nameless cousins from the seventies.

The hiatus is back off, again, for the Beastie Boys, and music lovers will bob their heads with insuppressible glee. With its Nice & Smooth impersonations and shout outs to Brooklyn's Albee Square Mall, To the 5 Boroughs, their first album in six years, harkens the return of the trio to the city that made them who they are today. It's an up-tempo yet surprisingly homogenous assemblage of vintage electro-style party beats, and it's a strictly Beastie affair: the Boys co-wrote and produced each track themselves, which means that it sports none of the sonic fripperies and quirky collaborations that distinguished previous classics such as Paul's Boutique. Finally jelling after two years of on-again, off-again recording, To the 5 Boroughs will appeal to those fans old enough to remember the Licensed to Ill tour. Those old-schoolers are sure to appreciate the album's mostly off-the-cuff lyrics and minimal-to-the-extreme musical landscape--even if its stripped-down sound may leave others longing for the days when the Boys were California dreamin'. --Rebecca LevineAmazon.com

It's kinda funny: when Licensed To Ill was released it was the BBoys joking around and it turned into a gem. I assume they are taking themselves serious on this one, and it turned out a clunker.
How can a band have such a great string of awesome music and then release this piece of junk followed by their latest release: Mix-Up (more junk).
If the BBoys were playing baseball, they would've switched to DH long ago. Instead these guys are still starting, and at best hitting the Mendoza line.
Retire while you still have some pride, unless you think selling corny music for lots of money is cool. I don't. Some poor sap bought my trade in.

What They've Done.......Another Awesome CD!.......2007-06-02
Of course, since last November, I was well aware (unlike those who dissed this album to the ends of the Earth) that there wasn't gonna be the hip-hop/electronica sound that we all knew and loved them for in the beginning, but wow, no one, not even me was prepared for how different this album was, and I for one will say, the truest of the true LP fans will love it all the same. I admit, I miss the old sound, but whatever.
IT ROCKS, IT ROCKS, IT ROCKS!
Oh and to the haters, think on this, but don't hurt yourselves: It's been 4 years since Meteora (I was 15 and 11 months, do the math), a lot happened since then, and they're not the only ones who renovated what they were. And so what they put their 2 cents in on current events? We all should, right?
I look forward to the successes this album brings for them, especially more lives they'll save, because they saved mine.
Love it or Hate it.......2007-05-22
This is an album that will quickly grow on you if you're only lukewarm on it after your first listening.
I've seen several lyrics sites that mention an additional song called "Hold Nothing Back" that is listed on this album, but I can't find a mention of it on any version that Amazon sells. I got the bonus version with the MVI disc, not on there. What's up with that? Where is this song found?
A Re-Birth For A Truly Gifted Group.......2007-05-21
With that said, this album takes three listens: one to get you over the initial shock of the change, another to get you deeper into the meaning of the music, and then the third to realize how much you love the new music.
Song breakdown:
Wake: cool intro, great way to start off. 5/5
Given Up: One of my favorites on the album. The best Chester has ever sounded vocally; great song! Has a punk feel to it, which is not a bad thing at all. 5/5
Leave Out All The Rest: Mellow song, but not bad. This sounds like another single; it is a soothing ballad with clean vocal talent and great musical accompaniment. The lyrics to the song are absolutely inspiring; well worth checking out. 5/5
Bleed It Out: another favorite; you can tell through the music and live performance especially how much LP loves this song (they smile the whole time). No one can argue against the rhythm and greatness the track offers. 5/5
Shadow Of The Day: takes a full listen to enjoy it (don't skip after ten seconds). Really cool string section and guitar work. Absolutely AMAZING song; reminiscent of U2's "With Or Without You," which is also an amazing song. At first, this song is shocking to an LP listener, because it is so different from the other material, but this song is one of the best ever to be recorded. 5/5
What I've Done: good song, but not the best on the album; took a few listens to get into it. Even though this sounds closest to their previous material, it is not my favorite track. Still, it's a great song. 4/5
Hands Held High: I love this song; if I could give more then 5 I would; it;s deep, powerful, and Mike's talent never ceases to amaze me. The band's choice of instruments and vocals are genius. Beware: politics! 5/5
No More Sorrow: Arguably the heaviest track here, and it's great. Really solid intro, heavy music and lyrics, fantastic vocal delivery. If you dislike political messages you may not like this track, because it is a Bush-basher, but politics has never made me like a song any less. 5/5
Valentine's Day: This song is kind of blah, not a personal favorite. It does grow on you though, and it does fit into the album's sound. Overall, the song is enjoyable. 4/5
In Between: cool song, but does border on being boring. Music is great, but I like a little drum beat in my music; this song lacks that. The song could be construed as emo-esque; Chester definitely wrote the lyrics from his heart. Toward the end it begins to redeem itself, and it ends up being a worth-while track. 4/5
In Pieces: another favorite for me. Really cool song, just listen all the way through. Ska guitar, guitar solo, and great vocal delivery. One of the best on the album. 5/5
The Little Things Give You Away: starts off slow with weird sound effects and acoustic guitar. Kinda of weak at first (hate to say that), but after a minute, the track turns for the better. The drums really stand out for me in this track, as well as the rest of the musical accompaniment. This song is really well done, and the end is chilling. The harmonizing by Chester and the band sounds great, as well as the music behind it. This has turned into my favorite song, as well as the best song ever done by them. It is incredible! 10/5
No Roads Left (itunes bonus track): really cool song. Mike is singing, and actually singing this time, really well, unlike in "In Between," where his voice is very down-played. The song should be on the regular release, but what are you gonna do? Cool violins, guitar work and great vocal range make this track worth the itunes download. 5/5
Overall, this is a five star album, with a wide range of music and talent. The band has never sounded better, and I look forward to what they make next, hopefully in less then three years. I hope you find this review helpful in determining whether or not you should buy this album. I will say this also; I was not a "die hard LP fan" before this album. I have always enjoyed their work, but I never considered them in my top five; this album has pushed me to the other side, and I can personally say they are now my favorite band, as of right now.
If you look at any of my previous reviews, they are not nearly as extensive, so that should tell you that this album is important to me. The music is deep, and well worth the money. P.S. For all of you expecting Meteora pt.2 don't waste your time here bashing this record with your negativity. You are close minded, and are not open to new things that differ from the past. Hybrid Theory and Meteora were exceptional, but I would not be happy if Minutes To Midnight sounded like those; that genre has died slowly, and they know it. Don't bash this record because it's different; embrace the changes and see the beauty in the music.
Welcome Back LP!!! We've been missin you!!!!!! .......2007-05-20
It can't be compared to Hybrid Theory or Meteora, because it's NOT the "same ol LP!" I've been anticipating this album since I embraced Meteora as one of my all-time favorite albums. I AM NOT DISAPPOINTED. Does that look strange? It may, because "I'm disappointed" is alot of what you'll see in reviews all over the net. It seems like the most close-minded people SADLY are also the most vocal. Get the album and listen to it all the way through, MULTIPLE times. Then YOU decide. I suggest the CD/DVD combo. The "Making Of" documentary is awesome, and really takes you inside the band to show how they arrived at this point. Must see.
FIRST: Throw away everything you think you know about Linkin Park.
SECOND: Put on some headphones
THIRD: Press play
1: WAKE- This IMO captures the entire history of the "LP sound" that so many have come to know and love, to show basically that this is the last you'll hear of it because...
2:GIVEN UP: Once this track starts, you're introduced into a ear-catching raw sound. Jingling keys and claps, no synths and electronic tones. It has a punk type vibe to it. Chorus makes it an instant "single" candidate. I won't spoil the surprise in this track. But i'll put it this way: Chester's vocals are not of this Earth. (10/10)
3:LEAVE OUT ALL THE REST: I overlooked this track on my first listen. But once I gave this album a thorough listen, it latched onto me and is now one of my all time favorite LP songs. It is a infectious mid-tempo ballad with a great hip hop drum beat. Chester once again shines on vocals. Simply beautiful. Would make a GREAT single if LP/WB chooses to release any slower songs as singles.(10/10)
4:BLEED IT OUT: It just stands out so boldly. There's just so many different eclectic elements blended together that fuse seamlessly into one of the most grooving, catchy LP songs to date. It features Mike rapping for all those starving for more flows to feel. Chester nails the chorus and bridge. They demonstrated some maturity by not taking this song over the top, and found just the right spots to hit vocally. It's short so it can definitely give the repeat button some use on your stereo. It was performed as the second song on their SNL appearance so I'm betting it's the next single.(10/10)
5:SHADOW OF THE DAY: Initially was the weakest track on the album in IMO. However, over the course of two weeks it has grabbed me and is one of those songs you can close your eyes and drift away to. Not what you'd expect on an LP CD eh? Though it does confirm those U2 comparisons you're seeing in most reviews. But that doesn't make it bad right? U2 is one of the greatest bands of all time by most people's vote. (9.5/10)
6:WHAT I'VE DONE: First single. You've probably already heard it. The song that bridges the gap. Has the classic LP song structure, but a more stripped down classic rock sound to it. Some love it, some hate it. I loved it instantly. I'm glad they went back into the studio and cut this track for the album. The video does a great job of showing what this song is all about.(10/10)
7:HANDS HELD HIGH: If you like George W. Bush, press the skip button. If you despise him as much as most, then the lyrics will really hit home and are some of the best from Shinoda thus far. Features all SIX members on the chorus to create a choir like effect. Very different for LP musically. But the lyrics carry this song to great heights. (9.5/10)
8:NO MORE SORROW: LISTEN TO THIS SONG! I don't have the words to describe it! Even if you don't wanna listen to the political lyrics, the music just pumps you up! The chorus, SMASHING! The refrain at the end will have you trying your hardest to mimic Chester's fantastic vocals. "your time has come to be replaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaced!!!!!" I LOVE IT! (10/10)
9:VALENTINE'S DAY: I don't know what it is, but I like this song. ALOT. Most people criticize this song for being too "pop" or "emo" or whatever. IT IS A GREAT SONG. Period. Great intro, great vocals. Gets heavier as the song progresses. A rockin crescendo.(10/10)
10:IN BETWEEN: Mike gets his sang on! He doesn't try to do things he's not capable of with his voice, so it comes off very well. He has this track all to himself and he does a great job.(8.5/10)
11:IN PIECES: One of my absolute favorites on the album. I am typically not a fan of fast tempo, punky type songs, but LP puts their twist on it and makes it sound very good. Brad hit a nice lil catchy solo on the bridge! This song was stuck in my head after the first listen. Just flat out GREAT! :D (10/10)
12:THE LITTLE THINGS GIVE YOU AWAY: There was so much hype and discussion about this song that I gained some lofty expectations and ideas of what it could sound like.(Brad's first solo, best LP song ever, yada, yada, yada) So when I first heard it and it sounded nothing like what I expected, I was slightly disappointed. However, ONCE AGAIN after a few listens and once expectations and notions were set aside, it quickly grew on me and became one of my favorites on the album. Must hear, another indescribable masterpiece. Great closer to the album. Is indeed the best song LP has done, and a great way to drive home the point that this new sound has arrived and is here to stay.(10/10)
And that's all folks. LP sticks to the 12 track formula.(the foreword on Meteora doesn't count :D) I wanted more immediately. Luckily, Brad said that the finished tracks that didn't make the cut may be released in the future. Keep your eyes open. MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT has the songs to rock out to, the songs to drive to, and the songs to listen to at night on the way to bed. All in all a very versatile album. Most complex, diverse and satisfying Linkin Park album. 5 STARS!!!
What I'm not understanding is why everyone is so shocked that this doesn't sound like "Meteora Theory" or basically a third album in the same vein of the predictable sound of the nu-metal genre. Especially when LP has been telling the media all along that they were looking to expand their horizons and try new things. And if I hear one more person say "I miss Mike's rapping! This sucks!" I'm gonna scream! Can people's memory be THAT bad that they forget... Crawling!(Mike---BACKING VOCALS!!!) Numb!(Mike---BACKING VOCALS!!!) One Step Closer!(Mike---BACKING VOCALS!!!) Breaking The Habit!(Mike---BACKING VOCALS!!!) GET IT? They could only ride that formula of "Mike on verses, Chester on Chorus, Mike and Chester exchange on bridge" for so long... That ride has ended! Jeez! Get over it! QWERTY was an experiment to see what else could be done with their OLD SOUND. The answer? Not much. While it is a good song, it does sound a bit tired. People are so quick to always try and compare things that are nothing alike and put down one thing because the other is what they're used to! So accept it or don't buy the album, there's no use in trying to crucify LP or any band because they didn't make something exactly, specifically, especially for YOU! So if you don't like it, listen to it a few more times. If that doesn't change your outlook, Hybrid Theory is still on the shelves at your local music store. Real LP fans MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT in stores 5.15.07 in the U.S.A. GO PICK IT UP!!!!!!!!!!
"Runaway and open up your mind.....".......2007-05-19

Rip off of Queen/David Bowie's "Under Pressure".......2007-06-10

To the extreme past..................................2006-10-12
1. It was either U can't touch this or this jam. This was the soundtrack for summer 1990. For those that don't know the sample comes from Queen & David Bowies 1982 track "Under Pressure".
2. Vanilla Ice with a voice equalizer
3. A reissue track off the Ep "Hooked". Contains a sample of "Express Yourself" by NWA. Mostly a filler track, most often skipped.
4. A reissue title track off the Ep "Hooked". Not bad.
5. An upbeat pop track. Lacks originality, put good for laugh.
6. Heavy Madonna influence (Justify My Love style) and samples heavily Tone Loc beats. However saying all that this is one of Bside favs. It might have been a good single to release instead of "Play That Funky Music". I like this one.
7. Second single of the album. I know all the words to this song, so I have nothing bad or good to say about this track. 99% of the time I don't skip this track.
8. Underrated track. I'm a big Jackson 5 fan, and Vanilla Ice sampled yet another big name act and mixed with his ice style. I like the flow of the rap and the mix with Michael Jackson and the turntables...is beautiful. Also check out Naughty By Nature's "O.P.P." featuring Jackson 5's "ABC". This of course samples the 1977 hit "Dancing Machine" by the Jackson 5. Love this track
9. Even James Brown and the Ed Lover Dance theme can't save this song. Terrible song.
10. Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock influence. With help from a snippet of Thriller's Vincent Price laugh and a Beastie Boy rip off, the song has its moments. However after listening you really have this urge to hear "It Take 2".
11. Vanilla Ice with a voice equalizer again!
12. Ice Cold. Definitely left me ice cold. More samples of Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock, Pump Up The Volume, and etc. Skip this one too.
13. Rosta Man?? A spelling error perhaps. A white rapper now crossing over to Reggae. Sure as you can see on the liner notes he can't even spell Rasta. Good for a laugh.
14. Think LL Cool J's "I Need Love" without the talent, but boy does Ice have the vocal sounding very much like a cousin of LL's twice removed. Oh there is a pretty good rip off of someone who sounds like Kenny G. That is the wrong G to have on a rap album. Pretty bad.
15. Ice's attempt at beat boxing, you wish he had stopped after the reggae bit. After hearing this track I was glad it was the last song.
Cool as Ice,Ice,Baby!.......2006-09-18

On the Streets' third album, the conceit is that Mike Skinner's now a famous guy (and he indeed is in the UK--as he puts it, "I've sold 3 million and you've never heard of me"). So, instead of dissecting the stereotypes and prejudices of an average Joe, Skinner turns his keen eye for detail on himself, to his new life of easy drugs and easier girls, of trashing hotel rooms, and being bummed out when your record label does promotional stuff without telling you about it first. Sonically it's more polished and a tad faster, though the music's still stripped-down and tough, propelled by loud synth lines and minimal drums. Skinner's flow remains original and wonderfully sing-songy. And while it's cool to see him actually write about his current life instead of pretending he's still "street," the subject matter's a touch too similar to an anorexic debutante's diary entry to make for very compelling hip-hop. When he asks "How the hell am I supposed to be able to do a line in front of complete strangers/When I know they've all got camera[phone]s?," it's definitely tough to care too much, no matter how fun the music is. --Mike McGonigalAlbum Description
The new Streets album The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living, out April 25th, is a completely autobiographical record that covers everything that has happened to Mike over the past few years since he's become a well known figure in the UK. There's love, loss, scandal, violence, sex, drugs and a whole load of bad behavior and regret. This true story begins with the first single, "When You Wasn't Famous."Customer Reviews:

As VIBE Magazine said, "Not on THESE streets".......2006-11-10
But even though the production is on point, the songs as a whole aren't that accessible. And I'm not saying that because Mike's thick accent can make things incomprehensible to the average listener (although there's some truth to that; "War of the Sexes", anyone?); it's that most of the time I really don't understand what in the world he's talking about, which is especially the case with the album's opener, "Prangin Out".
The few times where I COULD figure out what was going on, I wasn't too impressed. "Fake Streets Hats" has Mike complaining about supposedly pirated Streets merchandise (I say "supposedly" because it turns out that Mike's label distributed the hats), and "When You Wasn't Famous" is a been-there-done-that comparison of his private and public life. Speaking of that song, when Mike and friends try to sing the chorus sometimes, it's pretty nerve-racking (see "Two Nations").
I really think Mike could have done a better job than this; it almost feels like he just wanted to put SOMEthing out because now that Lady Sovereign is getting some mainstream love, he's like, "Hey, remember ME?" Let's hope he perfects his craft; maybe then it won't be so hard to make an easy living.
