One Of The Greatest for Old School Heads .......2007-05-24
The song by sequence is a CLASSIC. And yes that is Angie Stone rapping in 1979. The only thing that I could have done without is "It's Like That" by Run DMC. That is one of the rare songs by them that I don't like. Roxanne Roxanne-whew! priceless! I still feel very proud that I know all the words to Educated Rapper's "ary" flow! You know what I'm talking about! This CD has an excellent flow. I bought this about 13 years ago and it is still one of my main work out CD's. My little 4 year old cousin accidentally broke it and I went into cardiac arrest thinking that I would not be able to find this again. But here it is on AMAZON. The fact that I have had this CD for 13 years and the lost of it was tragic to me let's you know just how deeply this music runs in the heart, soul, and blood stream. Anyone who likes those original 80s raps will adore this. I love 90s hip as well. But there is something still so pure and innocent with these songs! They will melt you. I was in elementary school during most of these songs, but as an adult a cling to them to remind me of an easier time. GET IT!
"More old skool Hip-Hop classics".......2005-08-28
I believe this was the 2nd compilation of old skool rap ever to hit the shelves back in '90. A sign of where a lot of these compilations would be heading to and setting a trend for "old skool" Hip-Hop compilations in the future. This CD is strictly classic material. No wack songs are found here. A definite classic!
this is what Rhino's "hip hop from the top" series should have been .......2005-08-13
They did things right on this collection, with all the 12" versions--except, ironically, for rapper's delight, which is the edit on this disc, and the long version on the other series! Track times:
1. rapper's delight (7:08)
2. fat boys (6:50)
3. white lines (7:28)
4. roxanne roxanne (5:10)
5. jam on it (7:55)
6. it's like that (7:23)
7. the message (7:11)
8. funk you up (6:30)
9. the breaks (7:41)
10. 8th wonder (5:44)
All are excellent cuts.......2002-07-20
I think all cuts on this CD are excellent! Very Highly Recommended.
Live Long and Prosper...........2000-07-22
....this is a great collection of original rap classix. UTFO, Kurtis Blow, Grandmaster Flash, Sugarhill. Get it for the hard, hard to find rarities "Jam on It" by Newcleus (wikki, wikki, wikki) and "Funk You Up" by girl rappers Sequence--which may or may not have current hit maker Angie Stone...? Is that the same one? Anyway, get it and remember 'ho-tel, mo-tel--hall-i-day inn...'
