Kiara's "Willing to Be Thrilling".......2003-12-07

Condition of the Heart, was released five years after their successful new jack swing debut, To Change And/Or Make a Difference, and four years after their lesser-hyped follow-up, Civilized Rogue. Kiara (not to be confused with the Latin Continuum group) returns in 1994, after disapearing for four years. Vocalist Gregory Charley and guitar/keyboardist/drummer John Winston's, Condition of the Heart was released on a new label, Polygram records, leaving their home Arista records. The Detroit duo has one foot in the urban '80s Detroit sound, and the other in hip-hop, new jack swing, and '90s R&B. Formely known for their funk-smokin' jams, Kiara steps away from the new jack swing/funk/R&B that they were heavily known for, pushing more and more towards Adult Contemporary audiences, which they successfully do. Though, Condition of the Heart is considered by most critics to be Kiara's best album, unfortunately the public and mainstream listeners didn't didn't feel the same.

I wish they have all of his albums re-issused ASAP.......2005-06-22

I know everybody's worried that the rest of Kashif five solo albums have not been remastered or reissued. 'Cuz I went in the store 2day to pick up a few of his albums which I haven't even heard IMO. I hear he has great stuff and he does sound similar to a Luther Vandross look-alike I'll say. Anyway I'll get a chance to hear as soon as possible and once I done that I'll do a 2nd review and then go over to his greatest hits complilations and dig sum of his other albums as well. He sure got skills and mostly an unforgotten artists. They don't play him as much no 'mo. Maybe they'll do that sum day or the other. Ya'll radio stations need to do sumthin and revisit the man and his dreams. Just like Barry White whom ppl have mixed feelings may believe he may be out-of-style, out-of-tune, not ready, or being more high-standard. I believe that BW is such an inspiring genius just 'cuz I may compare as the sides of Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, a bit of Frank Sinatra, and a lil bit of the Jackson Family which I consider. Y'know BW's music is Ray Charles or Quincy Jones lifestyle, while Marvin Gaye's music is kinda like to Miles Davis and Frank Sinatra lifestyle and I dubbed 2Pac (who's among my all-time main rapper in the world) to the side of lifestyles to Elvis, to Miles Davis, to MLK, to Malcolm X. 'Nuff said or Need I say more?

A mostly-forgotten but very important 1980s R&B figure........2004-06-11

Because his five solo albums have been out-of-print for so many years Kashif has sadly become a mostly-forgotten figure of 1980s R&B. His importance and influence, however, are undeniable and "Condition Of The Heart" was (along with 1983's "Kashif" and 1984's majestic "Send Me Your Love") among his very best and finest works. On songs such as "Dancing In The Dark (Heart To Heart)", "Stay The Night" and the title track he gives Luther Vandross and Freddie Jackson a run for their money. Buy it while you still can!

For one reason or the other Kashif always gets slagged on.And
to be honest that kinda hawks me off-the man can write KILLER
love songs like the title song,"Stay The Night" and "Dancer In The Dark" that are firmly molded in the Luther Vandross mode (only alot less produced) and of course his patened funk songs on whitch he orchestrates with light synthesizers such as the
instrumental "Movie Song" and "Weakness","I Wanna Have Love With
You" and "Say You Love Me".In the same vein is "Botha,Botha",a
scathing anti-Aparteid piece in whitch Kashif insists that
'we can't dance 'cause your standing on our feet".In 1985 this
was all pretty heady stuff.Over the years Kashif's bright allure
has been largely forgotton and his excellent first two albums
still remain out of print all over the world.But to hear Kashif
in his prime this CD import will suffice for now!
