This is a standard right next to Santana. EL CHICANO opened the doors to other great latin rock bands like Santana had done for them. Viva El chicano has great songs like the salsa rock classic El Cayuco,and funky jazz-rock like Viva tirado and Cantaloupe island. LATINO BRINGS NOTHING BUT A COASTER.......2005-10-28

When I bought this cd I was hoping it was going to be something special, everytime I was in the music store it always caught my attention until one day I decided to buy it, now Im from the UK and over here latino hip hop particulary chicano rap gets next to no play or promotion, only artists like Cypress Hill, Big Pun or Fat Joe get shown any love.
I had never heard of Capone before I bought this, the only Capone I new of was Noreagas rhyme partner from new york but this guy, not a clue, anyway I decided to take a risk so I did, and man was I gutted. This album was sh*t complete and utter absolutly no redeeming features whatsoever, I could not believe how terrible it was.
For starters the beats are wack, they are most often under produced and sound unfinished not to mention that they all sound the same, and Capone himself is a terrible rapper, his voice is slow and monotonous that it just begins to bore you endless before you even get to the end of a track.

This might get love by chicanos in TX but my opinion is thats where it should have stayed, this should not have been given international distribution since it appeals to no one else.
I am latino myself and I love when I hear hispanic mc's bring quality to hip hop but all this cd is good for is a coaster because that is all the use this cd will be getting at my house.
If you want good latin hip hop I recommed:

For people that dont know or havent heard of Capone have missed alot of real street life music that comes from the heart. Capone is one of the best Chicano rappers that really ever lived. But the only way to understand these lyrics is to have lived them your self. And as for Dark room PUTA'S , yall need to get a new flow to make it like Capone.

I think this one cd is a classic.It has good lyrics and the beat's are tight.Capone and Sir Dyno was a hit.Playing this cd in my car for the first time made my speak's sound brand new, sound clean and Capone's flow is unique.His new album Barrio Dope should be even tighter.

This CD contains lots of remastered music. Rappers like Poyo Loco and Oso throw down on a couple of songs. The best songs are #'s-6,9,15,17,18, and 21. Most of the other songs are tight. If you like DRF, then this is a must buy. Like Dyno said, "shouts out to my homies in Hollister" (song number 17)

Sir Dyno comes hella tight on this album. The song "The Chola" will give you chills. "The Cholo" is unforgettable. The whole album is firme. I bought this album when it first came out and it does not disapoint . if haven't listen to this rapper before or of the darkroom familia a group he's part of .then your in for a eye opener ever song has a meaning and it speak's to you in volume.this album is really good it get's you all worked up he talk's about life, the streat's , drugs, women and love ,how everthing you worked so hard to get can get taken from you in a split secound.

A great cd........1999-12-06

This is a great cd. It is not really a gang-related cd, so it shouldn't affend anyone. It has great lyrical content and the cd talks about life. Especially if you live in the bay area. All the tracks on the cd are very good. In my opinion some of the best tracks are #2(Cries of the Dead), #4(Triple Beam Dips), #7(The Chola), #10(Connected by Honor), and #14(Last Words). My favorite is The Chola and Connected by Honor. If you don't understand any spanish you might be a little confused, but you'll learn quickly. It's better than most black rappers, i think we need to see more mexican rappers. so all in all, i think you should at least check the cd out. Norte 14 1MADERA4

Randy Garibay is an excellent musician and evokes many styles on this CD. My favorite tracks are "Funny Not Much" (which has to be one of the most beautiful and poignant songs I have ever heard; I cannot get it out of my mind) and "I'd Give Anything to be in Texas" which is a good tune that stands by itself. After I listened to the words several times it took on a new dimension. This is a CD worth having, worth listening to.

Randy Garibay is a legend around here and this versatile collection showcases his many talents. I have always been a fan of the ballads that Randy sings. "Funny Not Much" is an obscure tune that Randy and his ensemble, Piscatelle, Gomez and Prado in particular, help to make a lush, sensual classic...wow...goose bumps. A new standard has been born!
