Album Description

Digitally remastered and expanded reissue of the British Goth Rock band's classic 1987 album, now including nine bonus tracks including three 'incidental' pieces that appeared on the original 12"s and have been re-instated to their rightful places. Also included are live versions of several tracks, including a storming version of 'Shelter From The Storm' featuring John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) on keyboards. One previously unreleased track is an early version of 'Burning Bridges' that was recorded alongside the first single, 'Serpent's Kiss', but was never released). Although issued after God's Own Medicine, First Chapter collects together the singles released before that album came out. The two independently released 12"s 'Serpent's Kiss' and 'Garden Of Delight/Like A Hurricane' were both No.1 hits on the UK Independent Chart and were the catalyst for Phonogram to snap up the band. The first single, 'Garden Of Delight', was released in May 1986 and was quickly followed by 'Garden Of Delight,' double a-sided with Like A Hurricane, the band's cover of the Neil Young classic.. The package comes with a 12 page booklet including sleevenotes by Wayne Hussey and is packed with photographs and memorabilia. Universal.

Although Released after "God's Own Medicine", "First Chapter" Collects Together the Singles Released Before that Album Came Out. The Two Independently Released 12"s 'sepent's Kiss' and 'garden of Delight/Like a Hurricane' were Both No.1 Hits on the UK Independent Chart and were the Catalyst for Phonogram to Snap Up the Band. The First Single, "Garden of Delight", was Released in May 1986 and was Quickly Follwed by "Garden of Delight", Double A-sided with "Like a Hurricane", the Band's Cover of the Neil Young Classic. This Re-issue of "First Chapter" Includes Nine Bonus Tracks, Including One Previously Unreleased Tracks and Eight Appearing on CD for the First Time. Three of the Tracks Are 'incidental' Pieces that Appeared on the Original 12"s and have Been Re-instated to their Rightful Places. Also Included Are Live Versions of Several Tracks, Including a Storming Version of "Shelter from the Storm" featuring John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) on Keyboards.

Crap...this CD is an embaressment to Phoenix and the whole state of AZ. The other reviews were probably written by the members of the group. Don't buy this and if you do please don't think that every MC from Phoenix sounds like this. I write and produce and would never make a whole CD full of soft radio friendly commercial love songs just to sell CD's. I stay true to the art and would never sell out like these idiots. Can't even say sell out to sell out they would have had to be true to there craft at some point in ther career (wich they never have). Buy real Hip-Hop like CD's from real Hip-Hop artists like Jedi Mind Tricks,Canibus,Atmosphere and Copywrite they have real beats tight production and lyrical skill NBK has none. Every member of NBK has the same style wich was played out back in the late 80's early 90's. This CD deserves less that one star but they won't let you go any lower and thats too bad trust me it doesn't deserve one star.

I think this CD is tight! Its cool that they rap about Az, ive seen them many times in concert before they made it big, and even got the chance to meet MC Magic (he is my friends uncle) if you dont already have this CD go out and get it, you wont be dissapointed!

I just bought this CD online. I have the original - album version. I got it hot off the press back in the day. This was and is one of my favorite albums.

I recommend the Chameleons UK if you like this stuff.

A real gothic album that makes XTC look like children. I have been following this band since the separation of Sistes of Mercy in the 80's. In the later years thier sound was like Led Zeppelin which this previous CD a must for anyone who wants to relive gothic rock.
