Now that Lil' Kim's third solo outing is upon us, it's fair time to pose this question: is this fly Brooklyn female a legitimate MC or just another media sensation? Well, probably a little of both. La Bella Mafia is a refreshingly uncommercial album that demonstrates Kim's hard-earned mic skills, but the set never really hits its stride. Kim seems to be a woman who favors strong musical partners, yet many of the album's collaborations fail to inspire. Swizz Beats is at his abysmal worst (as both rapper and producer) on "This Is Who I Am" while Kim's cookie-cutter rhymes blindly follow his lead. "The Jump Off" features a hot, bhangra-accented Timbaland track that loses momentum when guest star Mr. Cheeks jumps in. But when it works, La Bella Mafia shines. Just check out "Hold It Now," where Havoc ratchets up the temperature with judicious use of the always-funky Beastie Boys sample "Paul Revere" and Kim rises to the occasion with a performance worthy of her Queen Bee title. --Rebecca Levine

4 out of 5 stars Better Than What People Say (Rating: 8 out of 10- -4.0 stars).......2007-04-07

Chances are if you're knocking this album, you never liked Lil' Kim from the beginning. To me, I believed that this is her strongest album (yes, it's even better than "The Naked Truth"...which I have to say is collecting dust in my library). People have accustomed to hearing Kim rhyme about sex, and figured that it was her bread & butter formula for making an album. She actually sounds real good when she doesn't mention sex in here rhymes. Yeah, she does it on and off on this album, but didn't run it into the ground like her last two albums.

When I hear songs like "Hold It Down" and "Can't F With Queen Bee", I believed that she has stepped her lyrics up from back in '96 (although I believed that Havoc's beat really helped out on the former song). A real nice song is when she colabs with former label mate Styles P. on "Get In Touch With Us", and that is actually one of the best songs on the album. Most of the songs, I believe that she sounds angry, and it brings out the best in her. When I hear the album's closer "Came Back For You", knowing she had a lot to say, aiming at a lot of female artists (i.e. Foxy Brown). It's songs like that that makes me like Kim for what she is.

The album's first single "The Jump Off" was real dope and featured Mr. Cheeks. Swizz Beats lays down a nice beat with the help of Mashonda's vocals on "This Is Who I Am", a song that I really like. "Thug Luv" with Twista, is another notable song. And her crew The Advakids rip the song "The Beehive". And lets not forget her remake of R. Kelly's "A Woman's Threat" on the song "Warning".

As for anything bad, there are a few songs I had no feel for. "Can You Hear Me Now" with Missy Eliott I didn't like, as well as it had a horrible beat. And "Magic Stick" with 50 Cent (before they were beefing) is another skippable track in my opinion.

Also some tracks should have been on here. "The Jump Off (Remix)" with Mr. Cheeks and Mobb Deep could have been a perfect addition to the album. And "Whats The Word?" was good and was remixed with Joe Budden, Lil' Shanice and The Advakids should have been on here as well. Thats all the dissapointment I had with this album.

I believe that this is Kim's best album. This is also my favorite Kim album, probably because I don't listen to her other albums anymore. "Hard Core" was average. "Notorious K.I.M." was garbage. And "The Naked Truth" was overrated, thanks to a couple of media outlets (I won't say the names, but many know what I'm talking about). As I said before, if you like Kim, you'll dig this album. Kim had a lot on her mind since her previous album, and would have a lot to say. I recommend that you give it a listen.

5 out of 5 stars Queen Bee Holds The Crown .......2006-08-16

Lil' Kim comes with her strongest material on this album: La Bella Mafia. For the album, she recruited the best of the best and practically the whole album features someone. This is my personal favorite album by a rapper. Here is the track by track breakdown of the album.

1. Intro: An intro, no review available.

2. Hold It Now [featuring Havoc]: This is one of my favorites off the album. The chorus is really good and the ending of the osng features Kim hosting a radio station taking calls. This is hilarious.

3. Doing It Way Big: One of the few solo tracks on the album. She basically tells everyone that she does things big and also pays homage to her mentor: The Notorious B.I.G.

4. Can't F**k With Queen Bee [featuring Governor, Shelene Thomas with Full Force]: THE best song on the album, which samples "Free" by Deniece Williams (which is my favorite song of all time). Kimmie sings and raps on this awesome track. Shelene Thomas does some impressive vocals, Governor does some good singing and the part with Full Force blew it out of the water (love that part).

5. Hollyhood Skit: A skit, no review available.

6. Shake Ya Bum Bum [featuing Lil' Shanice]: A fun song featuring Kim's protege, Lil' Shanice. This is a pretty good song.

7. This Is Who I Am [featuring Mashonda and Swizz Beatz]: One of my favorites because she tells everyone off. Mashonda does good singing for the chorus.

8. The Jump Off [featuring Mr. Cheeks]: The only video for the album, but still a good one. A good single to pick.

9. This Is A Warning: I liked this song at first but now I grew un-interested in this one. It's sort of scary to me, but it's not a bad song.

10. (When Kim Say) Can You Hear Me Now? [featuring Missy Elliott]: One of my favorites because it's a good track to dance to and my favorite part is the third verse.

11. Thug Luv [featuring Twista]: A good song in which Kim does some fast-paced rapping to keep up with Twista.

12. Magic Stick [featuring 50 Cent]: Probably the most notable track on the album because it's so good. There should have been a video (but 50 Cent ruined it by being an a**). The end features Kim at the radio station again and once again it is funny.

13. Get In Touch With Us [featuring Styles P.]: My second favorite track on the album. Both rappers deliver great bars for this one and I love the last verse where they talk about the "Money, Power, Respect."

14. Heavenly Father [feturing "Big Hill"]: One of the songs that I didn't particularly like. I don't know why, but it just isn't.

15. Tha Beehive [featuring Reeks, Bunk S.A., Vee and Saint from the Advakids]: The other track that I didn't like. I don't know why, I just don't.

16. Came Back For You: A really good track to end the album on. The video was unreleased but I think it should have been. She insults both rivals Foxy Brown and Eve.

Queen Bee delivers one of rap's best albums ever. She does quite a number of guest stars, but that's all good. No one does like Lil' Kim.

1 out of 5 stars Big mama got REALLY BIG FOR REAL.......2006-07-05

Big Kim just got outta prison today and she put on a few hefty pounds. Good luck fittin in those bathin suits to use sex appeal to promote your albums fat a**. Also wit the exceptions of hold it down and the jump off this album sucks.

4 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars. Better than 'The Notorious K.I.M.'.......2006-04-29

After her semi-dissappointing sophomore album 'The Notorious K.I.M.', Lil' Kim gets back on the right track with her third album 'La Bella Mafia'. Once again, she reps Brooklyn and keeps Biggie's memory very much alive, and this album also contains songs deeper than those of her previous two albums. And she proves that she can stand on her own two feet without Puffy. Definitely three times the charm with this album!

3 out of 5 stars La Bella Mafia~Lil' Kim.......2006-02-23

I only liked a couple of songs on this cd, but considering that it's a couple years old I gave it a rating of 3 instead of 2.

5 out of 5 stars I perfer the clean version........2004-12-28

Good album. It's really refreshing to listen to every new LK album , because it's always a surprise. If you are looking fro an album where you just want to listen to Lil'Kim's flow. Without all of the raunciness than this is the one. Here is my review of my favorite songs:

Doin' it way big- Good song about Diamonds, minks and all of the shopping she likes to do.
Can't mess with Queen Bee-She tells these haters she is still on top, and they can't mess with her.
Thug Luv-Lil'Kim spitts her fastest in this song.
Can you hear me now-Cool song about what is happening in her life.
Came back for you-She's back, and is ready to fight!

5 out of 5 stars Lil' Kim's Jump Off.......2004-11-11

On this album Lil' Kim did her thing. Out of all 3 of her album I would say this one is her best. When I heard "The Jump Off" I had to buy this album.

01. Intro > This is basically The Notroious B.I.G. explaining about how he found artists in the Junior Mafia. 8/10
02. Hold It Now (feat. Havoc) > I really love this song this song samples from The Beastie Boys's "Paul Revere", so Lil' Kim went Old School on this track. 10/10
03. Doing It Way Big > This song is about spendin' money, livin' large and doing it up big or B.I.G. Anything she does she do it B.I.G. 7/10
04. Can't F**k With Queen Bee (feat. Governor & Shelene Thomasn with Full Force) > On this song she says "You can hate or hale the queen". She's saying know one can mess with her. This song is acutually not my favorite on the album. 4/10
05. Hollyhood (Skit) > This song Lil' Kim is playing a teacher in a classroom. The kids are singing a Mr. Rogers theme but saying "It's a beautiful day in hollyhood". 8/10
06. Shake Ya Bum Bum (feat. Lil' Shanice) > What I like most about this song is Lil' Shanice's verse. It shows that kids can rap too. 8/10
07. This Is Who I Am (feat. Mashonda) > I really love this track. Swizz Beats produced it, so you know its hot. Kim's sayin this is who I am so you can't change her. 10/10
08. The Jump Off (feat. Mr. Cheeks) > The first single off the album. Was the reason I bought this album. Timbaland did his thing in the production of this song. Its a good jump off for the album. 10/10
09. This Is A Warning > This song is acutually a re-make of R. Kelly's "A Woman's Threat". This song is mad hilarious at the end when Kim Mimiks R. Kelly. 9/10
10. (When Kim Say) Can You Hear Me Now (feat. Missy Elliott) > This song is hot. Nothing much to say about this track, it's just one of those bounce tracks. 8/10
11. Thug Luv (feat. Twista) > Was supposed to be the 3rd single, but they never released a video to the song. But was released as a single. I like Twista's verse on the song. And Kim's verse was on point. 8/10
12. Magic Stick (feat. 50 Cent) > Was supposed to be the 2nd single, but they also never released a video to this song. This song was played alot on the radio. I like this song also. 9/10
13. Get In Touch With Us (feat. Styles P)> The beat to this track is off the chain. Lil' Kim verse was real tight on this song. My favorite song on the album hands down. 10/10
13. Heavenly Father > On this song Lil' Kim talks about her problems. The feuds with her and Junior Mafia how she supported them but they didn't appreaciate it. On this song Lil' Kim vents out her problems. She washed her hands and done with it. 8/10
14. Tha Beehive (feat. Reeks, Bunky S.A., Vee & Saint from The Advakids) > On this track some of the new artists of Queen Bee entertainment is featured. I really like this song. 9/10
16. Came Back For You > This song could be a dedication to her fans. At first I did not know this song was produced by Kanye West. She alos disses Foxy Brown on this track. She says "It's enough I got to put up with this Do Do Brown chick".

I would reccomend that you go buy this album if you are a true Lil' Kim fan altough this album was released in 2003. It's one of her best. She did it without help from the Junior Mafia. Also Kim is a trend setters what I mean buy that is that she's was one of the first female rappers to be sexy & hardcore. So she opened doors for other female rappers who wanted to be like that.
