Editorial Reviews

Hiphopinfinity (Nikhil Yerawadekar)
"The Wordsmiths have achieved the unlikely result of a fresh debut with Classic Composure"

Product Description
The debut album from the Wordsmiths, "Classic Composure" offers 17 tracks of refreshingly creative and fun hiphop. The four lyricists (Agent Orange, Eternal, Madison, and JOC) combine their distinct styles and tackle a range topics that show off their impressive talent with words. Agent Orange and Eternal serve double duty as the beatmakers, and do a tight job of providing the proper thematic soundscape that fits the subject of each song.

The album features hilarious cuts such as "Clown You" and "Storytime," the latter placing classic cartoon and fairy tale characters in modern situations. Peter Pan is hooked on fairy dust, the Bogey Man makes dance hits, and Little Red Riding Hood is a gang-banger trapped in a street war. The group seamlessly handles more serious topics with "Confused Evolution," "Stream of Consciousness," and the closing song, "Legends of the Fall," which voices the universal hope of every artist to live forever through their life's work. Half of the group offer previews of their solo projects- JOC with "Artificial Intelligence" and Eternal with "Bedrock." The rest of the album is balanced between creative tracks that attempt to advance the scope of hiphop lyricism (Classic Composure, Pimpin Aint' Easy, and the ILLiad) and anthems that tip a hat to classic hiphop emceeing and music in general (Cotton Club, 420, Sounds and Words, and Westward Ho).

Guest appearances include the amazing female emcee Athena, and Jon?Doe from White Coller Criminals, with scratches from DJ ILL Nasty.

Overall, Classic Composure is a shining beginning for The Wordsmiths and is worth checking out. The album offers an alternative to the redundant formula of mainstream hiphop, while managing to remain fun and not heavy-handed.
