There's no better example of American pop culture's hall-of-mirrors ethos than producer Alan Carr's relentlessly buoyant 1978 film adaptation of the stage musical Grease. Inspired by that decade's rampant 50's nostalgia, it now paradoxically evokes the campy 70's excesses that spawned it. That sense of recycled decades in collision is underscored repeatedly on this deluxe, double-disc Grease-fest, especially on the set's second disc of bonus materials that spans vintage singles of the title track (its instrumental B-side) and "Greased Lightnin'," some sing-along karaoke tracks, and a handful of alternately slick/techo-savvy remixes (originally produced for the film's 20th anniversary) that are testament to its enduring, era-defying appeal. The original soundtrack itself has been treated to a stellar digital remastering that fills disc one, and remains a joyous monument to camp, sheer ambition, and exuberant nostalgic illusions. Includes a slip-cased, double-fold-out case and new booklet with complete song lyrics. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:
You 're The One That I Want.......2007-04-03
The complete Grease experience. This cd is a two disc-set with disc one being the complete soundtrack, while disc two is all bonus material including the popular Grease Megamix. Fans of the movie would want to make this cd an essential part of their music collection.
Prepare to be transported to Summer Nights.......2006-03-26
This album has not only captured the spirit of the movie but the essence of a 1970's version of the 1950's. I have seen this play live and yes some things are different. Yet I grew up on the movie. I even find myself singing some of the songs now and then. Of course you will never see me singing "Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee." However I do keep this in my car as great driving music. This album is not you can pick apart and say things like missing songs, in the wrong order etc. It sounds and feels just right. There will be many versions yet this one is the Grease - Deluxe Edition [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED] [SOUNDTRACK] gives you more information about each of the tracks allowing you to feel that you have inside information and to feel that you know more of what went into the making of each song.
Great Soundtrack & Fun Extras from an Enduring Musical........2004-07-06
Track 1 on the Bonus Disc is an instrumental version of the film's theme, "Grease", written and produced by Barry Gibb. Frankie Valli's voice has been replaced by a saxophone. The chorus is vocal, but the voices are not those in the original song. You could use this as a sing-along version, as it would be easy to sing over the sax. Tracks 2-5 are officially sing-along versions. "Summer Nights" includes the chorus vocals from the film and sounds good. "You're the One That I Want" has new chorus vocals of questionable merit. "Sandy" is a new arrangement. It's not as good as the film version, but you can sing along. Track 6 is the single version of "Greased Lightning" that you may have heard on the radio back in the day. It's differs from the original in that the bad words have been replaced for radio airplay. Tracks 7-8 are previously unreleased instrumentals from the film. "Greased Up and Ready to Go" is lively. Tracks 9-10 are mixes that I occasionally hear on the radio. The "Grease Megamix" and the "Grease Dream Mix" are fun, if awkward. Tracks 11-12 are Martian Remixes of "Summer Nights" and "You're the One That I Want". They retain the original vocals, but set them to a Latin rhythm. They make pretty good dance tracks.
This 2-disc set isn't in a jewel case. The case is paperboard with 4 panels that fold out. This is inside of a clear vinyl slip case on which the tracks are written. This isn't convenient packaging. On the bright side, the case won't crack in the mail. Tucked inside one of the panels is a booklet that contains lyrics and credits.
The "Grease: 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition" is a terrifically fun soundtrack to one of the all-time great movie musicals. And for all those preteen girls who go wild over the movie with each new generation, the bonus material is perfect for parties and horsing around.

Its muscular aura of international intrigue informed by smart characters, sharp writing, and a sleek cinematic sense, the episodes of the hit Alias often seem more like a chapters of a successful movie spy franchise than mere network television series. Key to achieving that masterful illusion is young composer Michael Giacchino, whose soundtracks range across a dizzying range of musical styles and dramatic undercurrents. This anthology of cues from the show's first season incorporates shrewd, techno-savvy club beats, sweeping orchestral sequences of pounding action, brooding suspense worthy of Bond, and inventive indigenous music of indeterminate nationality. Firmly grounded in rich Hollywood traditions, yet hip enough to keep an ear cocked to pulsing, contemporary styles, Giacchino's TV scores often outshine those of the pricier, big budget Hollywood boilerplate he's competing with. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:

Perfect soundtrack to a nearly perfect TV show.......2005-03-17
My favorite pieces on the CD are "SD-6 Dance Party," "Red Hair is Better," and "Spanish Heist." I've no idea who the guitarist is on the latter two cuts, but he's quite good!
I recommend this first and foremost to anyone who fears that soundtracks are a dead medium; Giacchino's a challenging composer and takes some real risks. Alias fans will snatch this up (although it doesn't include any soundbites from the TV series), as will anyone willing to play both techno and retro lounge on their CD players. Completists may not be happy with this CD as none of the popular music heard in the show is reproduced here, nor is the torch song Jennifer Garner sang in one episode. But that's what future installments of Alias soundtrack CDs are for!

Majesticons vs. Infesticons.......2003-06-07
A very well-done hip-hop satire; bound to astound.......2003-05-17
Yet, it wouldn't be until 2003 until we heard a word by the mainstream-lovin' Majesticons. And "Beauty Party" delivers. While the album is a complete satire of mainstream rap, it does something far superior than any parody before it: the album is actually BETTER than the object it's satiring.
The more you know about hip-hop, the better it is. (Take the opening track's hilarity shoutout to put an end to all hip-hop intros: "Alan Greenspan: put yer hands up!") "Piranha Party" actually sounds like it could take on 50 Cent's "In Da Club" any day, while "Fader Party" puts the Neptunes to shame. Pet Shop Boy's-sampling "Brains Party" odes to the absurd overuse of samples these days. "Game Party" out-moneys Cash Money, while "MajestWest Party" shows underground giant Murs in his prime, posing as the king of hip-hop.
The album is stunning in satire, but is simutaniously a very very fun listen. Few albums can compare in breadth and scope. Let's just hope the trilogy-closer Trajecticons will raise the bar yet again.

Director Norman Jewison's original 1975 Rollerball was an odd mix; half action thriller (about a future blood sport that crossbred the most violent aspects of roller derby and hockey), half futurist cautionary tale (about the dangers of all-encroaching corporate power and the decadent elite who wield it). In retrospect, it was all too prescient on both counts. It also marked one of the last major Hollywood forays of conductor-composer Andre Prévin, who conducted the film's pastiche of Bach (the ominous if clichéd Toccata and Fugue in D Minor served as the game's theme), Albinoni (the Adagio is the film's main theme), Tchaikovsky, and Shostakovich. The soundtrack was produced in the wake of Kubrick's epochal uses of classical music in scoring his near-future epics 2001 and A Clockwork Orange, and the inspiration and intent here is obvious. Previn added three brief cues of his own (the evocative, modernist "Glass Sculpture" and the kitschy funk-exotica of "Executive Party" and "Executive Party Dance"). With the London Symphony under his baton, the veteran Previn produces an effective version of the Adagio and wrings appropriate drama from the Russian works as well. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:
Executive Party.......2004-10-07
It's almost worth having in your collection just for the sake of being odd (a classical album with spiked-gauntlet roller derby warriors in the liner notes?), if that's your thing. Just don't expect to listen to it.
If somebody knows of albums that capture the sound of the two tracks I mentioned above... THAT album would be golden.

Preston's Tocata IS the Tocata!.......2002-06-28
I managed to get a vinyl copy of the album a couple years ago. It was badly scratched, but I did not care.
Why I like the album is one simple reason - Preston's rendition of Tocatta & Fugue in D Minor. In my opinion, it IS the Tocata. No other version by any other artist compares. It was worth the whole album just for that.
It also teaches me that there is good in every situation. Although the re-make of the movie was not received well, without the re-make, I don't know if this CD would ever have been re-released.
