3 out of 5 stars A Slight Innacuracy.......2007-06-13

The version of "Nadia's Theme" (Theme from The Young and the Restless) isn't actually the one you're expecting. I believe it's actually the original arrangement made for "Bless the Beasts and the Children". So what later became the Young and the Restless theme (the one that was a hit) still remains unreleased on CD.

Hopefully, we can see that version on a future release. Maybe they could get "Little Ballerina Blue" on one while they're at it.

Still, some great stuff here.

The purchase went as we had hoped. The delievry was as promised, and the quality of the product equal too, or above our expectations.

3 out of 5 stars Not totally an instrumental.......2006-03-10

I was excited to find this album. I bought it but was horrified to find a loud vocal on the first track. The rest of the music is all instrumental but this one track simply JARS you when it plays. Very disappointing!

5 out of 5 stars Another Collection You Wonr Find Anywhere else.......2003-05-06

Well, ERIC records has done it again.

Continuing their unique practice of giving us both well known hits and impossible to find rarities, Eric presents Volume 2 of "Hard to Find Orchestral Instrumentals". This one is, in my opinion, even better than the first.

First off, the sound quality of this disk is ASTOUNDING. ERIC has gotten the various reissue departments to provide them with absolute first generation mono and stereo masters and this CD proves it. The aural quality is breathtaking. The fact that Orchestral music is so beautifully suited for true stereo playback is exhibited here, as a whopping 15 of the 20 tracks are True Stereo and sound magnificent.

There are, of course, the big soundtrack hits here, like 'The Day The Rains Came" "Rocky", "Ben Casey", "Theme from The Apartment", and " Nadias Theme". All top 30 and well remembered. However, for this 43 year old fan, it was the some of the lessor known tracks, in particulatr the 1963 Colpix low level charter "Theme From The Long Ships" that really makes this collection the gem that it is. Outstanding tracks include "Theme From The Sundowners" , "The Dark At The Top of The Stairs" and "I Will Follow Him" , all tracks that will suddenly sound familiar again after first listen.

Therein lies the BEST part of this collection. When you put this on your player, you will be treated to a nostalgic feast,
a time when the magic of Orchestral music still ruled the charts, and existed in all our homes. And you'll certainly remember most of these once you hear them, which is the fun part!!

There arent enough great things I can say about this collection AND its sister CD "Hard To Find pop Instrumentals- Part 2" I personally liked this volume better, but if you dont have either yet, give yourself a musical treat, and some REAL listening enjoyment and pick these up...

Its listening the way it used to be.

4 out of 5 stars The trap is set.......2003-03-16

When Christopher Young gets the opportunity to score an action film, the results are nothing short of greatness. Here, Young utilizes an interesting mixture of instruments, such as tin whistles, Celtic drums, serenais, and gamelon gongs. Young's usual synth pad grooves are also present in the score. "Entrapment" contains lots of suspense, introducing us to the ride we're about to be taken on. The synthesizers function well with the orchestra, providing a contemporary sound to the music that an orchestra cannot. I always enjoy Young's action music and in cues such as "Saints and Sinners", "Millennium Countdown", and "Try, Then Trust", he lets the orchestra and electronics rip. "Bright Moments" contains lots of bright moments with pulse pounding brasses, as used in Hard Rain. "The Dancing Jars" introduces a piccolo into the music and "Wondering Aloud" introduces an electric guitar. A love theme between the 2 main characters in the film can be found in "La Fleur De La Musique" and the final track, "Thank God". As Christopher Young has primarily been composing music in the horror genre, it's nice to see him break away from that and write music like this. As director Jon Amiel says about the score: "Chris Young's magnificent multicolored score always tells the truth. At times it twines itself through the fabric of the movie like ivy through an iron railing. At times it is the railing on which the scene is hung. Sometimes it lies hidden like an alligator in a swamp waiting to bite you, hard. The result is big movie music at its very best - huge but never grandiose, emotional but never sentimental." Prepare, the trap is set.

4 out of 5 stars One of the greatest........2002-01-06

You'll see, when you sit down and listen to the soundtrack for the first time you'll love it. I admit it is a bit short but when you listen to track number 3 you'll understand why it is such a beautiful soundtrack. I would recommend this soundtrack to anyone who is a contemporary classical fanatic.

3 out of 5 stars Short and Sweet.......2001-04-17

I would agree with some of the other people who reviewed this CD. The music is absolutely wonderful, but far too short. There are several tracks that have that hauntingly beautiful main theme but under different titles. Tracks 3, 10, 15, 18, and 20 should have been combined into one continuous cut. All in all, still enjoyed the music.

3 out of 5 stars Great ideas, but..........2000-02-02

The music was one of the main reasons why I went to see "Entrapment" over and over again in a movie theatre with a good audio system. The piano score (as on track 3) is indeed a beautiful work of art. Therefore, I obtained the soundtrack CD, expecting quite a lot of it. However, I was quite disappointed to find out that the music of the film was not composed - or at least not included on CD - in more length than was present in the final cut. Brilliant ideas are chopped to tracks that are about a minute and a half long, first impressing you, then letting you down as everything ends abruptly. The result is not really a complete album - it is like a musician's scratch book - full of sequences of notes that never made it into a complete song. Don't get me wrong - this has its moments, but they are way too brief to be completely enjoyable.

2 out of 5 stars Fairly disapointing.......1999-11-04

After I saw this movie, and heard the music there, I was eager to purchase the soundtrack (Too eager, I paid more to purchase it at the music store than here at Amazon). But when I got it I was disapointed. The music that I had remembered hearing, and liking so much, was barely on it (Just tracks #18 and 20, and scattered various other places), and a lot of the music was themeatic, and not as good apart from the movie as it was in the movie. There is a lot of variety to the tracks though, as well as a wide number of internationial sounding tracks. So I don't know if I'd recomend against getting it, but just know that it's not a beautiful score, and I personally was disapointed with it. But others may (And obviously do) like it. One note, the last part of track #20 is one of the most annoying pieces of noise I've heard on a soundtrack. Definitely skip past that when you get there. Coulda' been better, coulda' been worse. Two Stars, maybe two and a half.

What a crowning achievement to bring "Reel Love: The Cinematic Romance Album", released by Silva America and featuring The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and the Crouch End Festival Chorus ~ conductors are Kenneth Alwyn, Paul Bateman, James Fitzpatrick, Nic Raine and David Temple director of the chorus ~ one can only expect the highest quality of performances and quench the thirst of all "film-score-buffs".

Sit back and unleash the first disc with composers taking each film score cue in alphabeltical order:

"CASABLANCA (AS TIME GOES BY)" (Herman Hupfeld)
"DOCTOR ZHIVAGO (MAIN TITLE & LARA'S THEME)" (Maurice Jarre)
"EL CID (LOVE THEME)" (Miklos Rozsa)
    "EMMA (MAIN THEME) (Rachel Portman)
"GONE WITH THE WIND (TARA'S THEME)" (Max Steiner)
"IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE" (Dimitri Tiomkin)
"LOVE STORY (WHERE DO I BEGIN)" (Francis Lai)

"THEME FROM A SUMMER PLACE" (Max Steiner)
    "VERTIGO (SCENE D'AMOUR)" (Bernard Herrmann)
"YOUNG & THE RESTLESS (NADIA'S THEME)" (Barry DeVorzon/Perry Botkin Jr)

Arrangements that soar and then simmer into pure meditation of grandeur ~ classic film music prevails, as orchestration comes to the surface with pure originality ~ one masterpiece after another is long last presented as it should have been, is cause for celebration ~ each cue is a distinctive gift for striking modernism, touching on the transition of the period in this planets history.

    Reviewer: A music fan

I love Y&R, and I didn't think the soundtrack was all that bad. Maybe not the best, but I love soothing instrumental music. I am still in search of that one piano segment that plays when Billy and Mac are together in a romantic moment. If anyone knows where I can find this then please let me know! I need that entire piano segment!"

1 out of 5 stars Can't I rate it 0 stars? THIS IS "TOO 90's"!!!.......2002-08-14

When they announced they were releasing a Y&R soundtrack, I was thrilled beyond words! All those beautiful, haunting, melodic music cues of the 80's and EARLY 90's, some of them very reminiscent of "Twin Peaks", would finally be mine! Well, not exactly. These are all, as they previous reviewer put it, "generic". I mean they sound like Muzac or the other personality-less music the other soaps use! Could they not get the rights/clearance for the older music? Were they composed by outside sources and therefore wouldn't bring in as much money as these, which were composed by the currect staff? Another reviewer mentioned the cue used for a tender moment with Nikki and Victor, well that's the one I wanted second most of all - it's simply breathtaking! Almost reminds one of the 70's "Romeo and Juliet" music... My favorite piece is what my girlfriend would call the "twinkling" music - they would play it whenever something "mysterious" was going down. And what about the thundering piano "doom" music (often used during Nikki's alcoholism storyline). Y&R, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE release the classic music for your 30th Anniversary next year and maybe a box set of classic moments on DVD to go along with it? Suggestions: David Kimble undoes his plastic surgery bandages to find the word "KILLER" written on his forehead; Sheila and Lauren's catfight in the lab; Nikki gets trashed at the Collonade room and starts stripping; Nina and Cricket in goofy disguises infiltrate black market baby broker Rose's inner sanctum; Jack Abbott enters his office and Victor (whom everyone presumed dead in a fiery car crash) turns around in the black leather swivel chair and Jack almost has a heart attack. Any more suggestions?

5 out of 5 stars Thumbs Up for Y&R Soundtrack!.......2002-04-14

I was so pleased when I received this Y&R soundtrack CD! It's amazing how you slip it into the stereo and tons of Y&R memories come flooding back!! I've endlessly enjoyed owning this CD, and I think you will, too!

1 out of 5 stars long awaited disappointment.......2002-01-17

Like the above- I eagerly broke open the CD so I could hear all those tear jerking, beautiful songs from the 70's ,80's and EARLY 90's only to find they weren't on the CD. I can't believe that the very moving theme they always played in a touching moment with Victor and Nikki isn't on this CD...it was one of the main reasons I bought it. Y & R owes it to us long time fans to offer the earlier years music. Personally, I think the pieces of old were much better and more original than the ones they play lately and are on this CD.

      Album Description

Formed in Los Angeles in '81, 45 Grave quickly became a major presence on the early `80s U.S. punk scene with their unique goth-meets-punk sound and image and tongue in-cheek approach which stood out from the West Coast hardcore of the day. Featuring ex-members of punk legends The Germs and The Gun Club, 45 Grave created a unique sound and look which carries through to today's bands like AFI. The band split after releasing just one proper album (Sleep In Safety) in '83.

A mainstay of the 45 Grave catalog, Only The Good Die Young (originally released in '89) captures the band with killer sound at a sold-out '88 reunion show in Hollywood.

For 2005, 45 Grave is back and going strong with a number of sold-out shows behind them plus upcoming high-profile touring plans surrounding this re-release.

That show in particular was a memorable one! They played all of our favorites that night!

As being a fan of 45 Grave for over 20 years, and they were the first 'local' band I ever saw in the scene, I must say...this live show captures the essence that is, 45 Grave. Dinah Cancer has a way of letting you know what each song is all about...and she still does today, keeping the 45 Grave Legacy alive!

My favorite tunes are the last few songs...Akira Raideen & Wax, I have to say are the top songs that just punctures your soul.

I could go on and on, but hopefully you all catch my drift. I highly suggest you get this. For those that missed out on this band, back in the day, now's your chance to hear how they were...
