if it were not for this disc I would have never found a copy of Alicia Meyer's doing I Want to Thank You I instantly became a fan of the series and brought the othert two to add to the collection I suggest when you have old friends over and want a quick game of remember when pop in these CD's and relive some great memories again

Can be played at a bbq on Memorial Day, July 4, Labour Day, etc... or while you're playing Twister (tangled up in a pretzel position while trying to grab that Bacardi & Coke that's waaaay on the other side of the mat ;) whatever... you get the idea. Anyone who has experienced the club scene (especially NYC) in the late 70's and early 80's must get this CD POST HASTE! I'm sitting here right now taking a trip down memory lane. The compilation of songs is PERFECT. That rarely happens. All of the selections are not only awesome but arranged well in their order. I seriously urge anyone who was growing up through that period (and enjoyed it) or who is curious about the club music to get this CD. Make no mistake, club/house music has a totally different flavor than your garden variety "disco".

If you are or were in my case, a serious house music aficionado, this CD is a must! If you were just a casual listener then don't buy, pick up a Donna Summer album or something to that effect. If you can identify with Womack & Womack, Weather Girls, Brothers Johnson, Roy Ayers, Sylvester, Jocelyn Brown etc. you got the right CD!!!
This is not for "percolators", Old School Rockers only!

A Thoughtful Series.......2001-09-08

Give Your Body Up is an interesting collection of discs. It achieves its aim of preserving foundational songs essential to the progression of modern dance club music. The discs contain rareties that are difficult to find elsewhere. Each disc in the series, this one in particular, may cover too much ground and have too much variety. There was a good bit of difference stylistically between the Philly Sound and string/horn drenched dance music of the 70's on the one hand and the synth-based, drum machine sound of the early and mid 80's on the other. Both decades are intermixed, not in chronological order. So we find the organic, gospel-inflected "Over and Over" next to the electronic "BRA," the orchestral "Love Is The Message" alongside the reggae-laced "Now That We've Found Love." As a source for songs, however, this series is definitely different from those "Disco" sets that focus on radio hits.

Rare Grooves.......2004-10-02

First of all, this CD is very hard to find now because it's out of print for long even though it's rather popular among collectors like me. You should buy it if you are a real disco music fan and able to find somewhere, I think. Give Your Body Up series includes many rare disco tunes, moreover, in the extended versions in most cases. But this Vol.1 is most recommendable. I like Why Leaves Us Alone and Bad For Me, both of which are exciting up-tempo disco gems and really really hard to find on any CD. The disco version of Free Man is also good.

Great collection of dance-cuts. I have volume 1-3, and I'm glad I decided to buy them. With the exception of a couple of songs, all the jams are full-length extended versions. This is what I've been asking for all along. The average person from that era don't want alot of three-minute cuts from back in the day. Hey, we want the whole un-cut versions and this series delivers.

Plus, while listening to it, I came across a few long-loved jams that I haven't heard in years (decades, even). For instance, as soon as I heard the song "BRA" by CYMANDE, man, I almost cried. And then there's the vocal-version of the jam, "ALWAYS THERE" by SIDE EFFECT. Man, I was looking for these cuts; in CD-format, for a long time.

Hey, if your on a serious quest for great un-cut dance-jams from back in the day; you definitely can't go wrong with "GIVE YOUR BODY UP", it's one of the best series.

A century of British art songs to delight those who love them.......2006-06-26

These 53 songs have been collected by Naxos from their extensive acquisitions from Collins Classics, and perhaps other British sources now out of business. There's a steady cottage industry, year after year, producing the typical English art song, which is usually based on folk songs, but even in more modern idioms is profuondly conservative and nostaligic. Half these songs, not to mention half the composers, are totally unknown to American audiences, but the familiar names of Vaughan Williams and Britten represent high quality, and the lesser lights, such as Warlock and Quilter, are mainstays in this repertoire.

I'd challenge all but the most addicted listener to make it through more than ten songs at a sitting, and many of these pieces are tepid, offering comfort rather than inspiration. The singers are among the best, but Graham Johnson and Steuart Beford, who do most of the accompaniments, are lackluster. I know that won't be a popular comment, yet if you compare any of these songs with rendiitons done by Janet Baker, John Shirley-quirk, and most recently Bryn Terfel and Ian Bostridge, you immediately notice how much more intensity and drama is pesent than htis colleciton reveals.

The only reason I didn't fall asleep during the highly repetitive and washed out tunes of "50,000,000 DJ's ..." is because I was on the road.
Okay, repetition is a trademark of "techno" cd's, but when the sounds repeated combine ancient squaking horns and leaf raking, I find my patience dwindling rapidly. As I bribed my ears to take in the blandness of the energy-less electro sounds, various singers somehow moved along with the music, adding in a mixture of hip-hop rapping, drolling grunge, and spastic turn-table-lapsing word repeating (such as "body movin" repeated possibly 80 million times on one of the tracks).
I regretted almost every second of this album. There are a few moments when a slick beat gets moving with a few complementary zip/zap fillers in the background, and this pulls my rating up for a total of two stars. Unfortunately, the joyous beats often turned sour when rough transitions with awkward, cracked electric-whistles or the ramblings of an anti-groove vocalist came to play. On top of all this, it seems like the whole recording process was filtered through an oversize sea sponge - not much bass depth or tone richness can be detected.
I recommend this CD pack if you have some strong headache medicine.

Over 2 hours of non-stop joy!.......2001-10-30

This double cd set is a wonderful collection of some of the finest mixes out there. Some of the biggest names are on here including: Fatboy Slim, Moby, The Beastie Boys, and the Chemical Brothers, just to name a few. Listening to this CD is like having a DJ in your own home, with over 2 hours of some of the finest mixes out there. I love this compilation and can't recommend it enough!

Body Movin'.......2001-10-30

I initially got this CD for the remix of Body Movin' because I'm a big Beastie Boys fan. I'm glad I got this compilation becacause I discovered a lot of good DJs that are on it (DJ Spooky, Leftfield are great!) A friend remommnded it to me and sent me a link to hear some tracks and I was like, OK they sound pretty cool and Body Movin's on - guess I'll give it shot. So I did and it rocks! Been playing it on my car on my way to school everyday and I get lots of good comments on it. Good stuff- I certainly recommend it!

As a part-time amateur DJ myself, I must say this cd is amazing. This cd is superb, whether you want to rock 'da house' or to simply liven up your party at home. With great names such as Asian Dub Foundation (which opens the cd), Primal Scream, BT, Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim (need I say more about these two?), Massive Attack and Moby and his "Natural Blues" hit among others, you are in for a real treat. It's a double cd, so it's double fun. I often find these "djs compilations" rather weak, but this one changed my mind 180 degrees. I'm eagerly waiting for the volume 2.
50,000,000 DJ's surely got it right and now they're 50,000,001!

This is a sweet collection of early Chicago House tracks. Lots of acid house here, which keeps it current alongside newer acid outings from Richard D. James and any other dance musician picking up a tb-303 or software emulator these days. The basic 808 and 909 sounds are a bit outdated, of course, but what would you expect for music made pre-1988? The acid jams and catchy vocal phrases compensate for any lack of aural variety in the percussion sounds.

Only one song saves this CD.......2005-09-22

I'm a big fan of all house music, including acid. There's lots of great house tracks out there, but not on this CD. In my opinion, there's only one track on here that makes it worth getting: This is Acid by Maurice. If you can't find this track on any other CD, then and only then would I recommend buying this CD. Otherwise, save your money.

In 1988 Hot Mix 5, DJ International and TRAX were the labels that were the most sought after, especially once the records were played on radio. Eventually the major labels started to take notice of what was coming out of Chicago and started to release compilations. A&M picked up on the Acid House vibe and release a compilation with solely TRAX artists: House Hallucinates!

In order to take away the mystery I will give a short track listing:
