For five decades, nuance has been the name of Ronald Isley's game. There it is, flowing in a warm, sexed-up cascade through "That Lady," and there it is again, reeking of need, longing, and romance on "For the Love of You." So why he allowed this long-awaited follow-up to "Body Kiss," the 2003 disc that proved the Isleys have still got it, to be titled so cheesily is anybody's guess. But in the end it doesn't matter. At 65, Mr. Biggs' legendary voice is amazingly well preserved, and even when he's tackling a song that could get him kicked out of church--the baldly libidinous "Show Me" or the downright lecherous "Give It to You," say--he works it with such genuine emotion that even those for whom baby makin' is a long lost pursuit will want to croon woozily, wistfully along. It wouldn't be a 2006 disc, of course, if there weren't a long list of collaborators to name-check, but here the all-star assemblage actually adds up to something. R. Kelly doesn't make "Blast Off" blast off so much as sail, and between Jermaine Dupri and Tim and Bob (the team behind Bobby Valentino), velvet-vibed sparks fly off of every track. The Isley Brothers have earned the right to have a fan like me prepare to buy their album upon hearing about an eventual release, and this album is no exception. Since the rest of the folks have gone into detail, I'll simply say that as a music lover, it's worth the buy.

when you think of the great music the Isley Brothers once made and then you listen to this junk,all you can say is "Oh my God,has it come to this".Laughable inane lyrics,boring guitar playing and not much else. And Ronald Isley has the nerve to thank God for making this kind of drivel.

Since I'm 25, it's obvious that I wasn't around when Ronald and Ernie Isley were in their heyday, but I did listen to enough of their older material to get into their vibe. I also enjoyed their newer stuff except for Body Kiss; as other reviewers have mentioned, the problem with that album was too much Mr. Biggs (not too much Ron Isley; too much Mr. Biggs) and TOO MUCH R. KELLY. Well, now that Ron is once again becoming a family man because of the child that he and his granddaughter -- I mean, wife are expecting, maybe that opened his eyes into realizing that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Thus, we have the excellent Baby Makin' Music. However, I didn't really know what to expect from the album because when I heard the lead single "Just Came Here to Chill" on Music Choice (a "radio" station on Time Warner Cable), it was incorrectly titled as "Baby Makin' Music". Also, this time around R. Kelly is only involved with one song, "Blast Off", and while that song is fine, there are even better tracks like "Gotta Be With You" and the aptly titled "Beautiful".

As another reviewer mentioned, most of the songs really aren't baby makin' music as the album title suggests, but when it IS done, it's done very well (see "Show Me" and "Give It to You"). But "You Helped Me Write This Song" is pretty damn good, as is "Heaven Hooked Us Up" (even though the title sounds a little corny). My favorite song is probably the aforementioned "Just Came Here to Chill", though.

While a couple uptempo songs might sound like Mr. Biggs is still itching to come out ("Pretty Woman" and "Forever Mackin'"), they don't disturb the flow of the album. And Ernie's guitar playing is back in great presence, too, all the more making Baby Makin' Music an album to add to your Isley Brothers collection.

I've been a fan of the Isley Brothers since the early seventies, rediscovering them, after many years, with Body Kiss, then finding Mission to please - more perfection. This cd has the seamless sound of Mission to please, updating it to the present perfectly. It's such a treat to be able to listen to a 'sound' that wrapped itself around you so beautifully in the seventies, doing it even better (if that's possible) in the mid noughties. Thankyou Ron and Ernie.

Co-CEO of Cash Money Records and member of Big Tymers, Baby / Birdman steps out on his own with debut release Birdman. Stepping outside for production assistance from Leslie Brathwaite on "Looks Like A Job 4..." fit perfectly with the street tales. "Fly In Any Weather" featuring Jazze Pha contains the expected subject of ballin' and stunnin' over a laid back funk groove. "Ms. Bird" featuring Mannie Fresh is about the type of women take interest in his pimping ways. Reasoning to the lifestyle, "I Got To" featuring Lil' Wayne is a solid song with an arrangement that still revolves around Baby. Birdman takes us back in history on "Never Had Nothin'". He actually digs deep into where he came from and society as a whole and that deserves mentioning as he steps out of his normal realm. With the minstream potential of reaching a variety of audiences heard on the replayed sample from Timbaland on "Baby You Can Do It" featuring Toni Braxton. Produced by The Neptunes, "What Happened To That Boy" featuring The Clipse, contains the 'birdcall' as one the highlights of the album. "On The Rocks" featuring The D Boys & Jazze Pha contains classical horn section for a deep southern feel in the summer time produced by Jazze Pha. Sharing verses, Baby and Jermaine Dupri on "How It Be" also featuring TQ on the hook is a great collaboration of different styles over the Jermaine Dupri and Brian Michael Cox track. When the police hit the block "Heads Up" is the warning call for the dealers. This is one the rougher produced tracks with siren effects featuring the D Boys. Back to the concept of the LP, "Hustlas, Pimps And Thugs" featuring 8Ball, Jazze Pha & TQ, contains annoying high pitched vocals on the chorus, but the flows and the upbeat track saved it from being grounded. "Fly Away" featuring TQ is the perfect blend that is as fly as the title. "Say It Ain't So" featuring Boo & Gotti, Keith Murray & Mikkey has the variety that adds depth and color for the goal of the album as does "Do That...." featuring P. Diddy, Mannie Fresh & Tateeze and "Keeps Spinnin" featuring T.I., Petey Pablo, TQ, Mannie Fresh, Stone, Wolf, Bizzy, Gilly & Mikkey with the different styles. The back to back push of Baby and TQ's vocals on "Ice Cold" with Jazze Pha adding his two cents with high pitched chorus shows Stunna's ability to fit alongside any other artist. Swizz Beats lend a hand with the multi guitar laced track on "Ghetto Life" featuring Lil' Wayne & Cam'ron. In house Cash Money producer, Mannie Fresh, produced twelve of the 22-track album where he usually takes on the task himself. This accessorized Baby's lyrics as he rose to the occasion with charisma and flare. For what it is, it's another solid release from Cash Money "...you undersmell me..."

holy sh*t this album is great! How could you NOT like this? Baby is one of the most unique sounding lyricists out now... he does need to talk about different subjects now and then but this is light rap hes not trying to act gangsta in every song. I was very pleased with this album especially the fact that this album has 17 songs (and 5 skits). Out of those 17 songs only 1 or 2 is less than 4/5. The best songs are Fly In Any Weather, Never Had Nothin', What Happened To That Boy?, How It Be, and Do That... I give props to Baby for bringin his game strong to this album... definately worth the money.

This album is a huge disapointment. now dont get me wrong I love most cash money albums, lyk juve the great, 500 degreez, mannie fresh mind of, B.G chopper city in the ghetto not really caring that there is no real lyrical depth I cant still enjoy 4 wot it is, enjoyable music and when i heard the songs "do that" and "what happened to the boy" I thought this would be another one of those albums, but when I listened to it for the first time i was thouroughly disapointed but i told myself the more i listen to it the more ill lyk it, but it just hasnt connected with me, if u like what happened to that boy then i recommend u get this album but only if its really cheap

ok...i bought this album..after readin all the bad reviews on this site..i really really liked "what happened to that boy"...so i bought it at a recycled music store for like $7.99 because i had some money to spend...bad idea..i listened to it on the way home and i thought it was a joke..i didnt know if the store had switched the cd or something because out of the 22 songs on there..i only liked 4 songs! plus none of the songs that i actually liked are really worth a lot of attention. the only good songs on here is #2- "looks like a job 4...", #10-"what happened to that boy", #12- "how it be" and the only reason that song is hot is cause TQ and JD are on it.. and #22- "keeps spinning"...and that is only because TQ, Petey Pablo, T.I. and Mannie are on it...but i knew this one was going to be a good song...but thats it...i laughed throughout the whole album because this guy raps about money and cars on EVERY SINGLE SONG!! it really made me laugh..heres some of his "intelligent" lyrics.."i get what i want and what i want i can have it, lexus, bentley, jags nothin average, never got married but im lovin miss lavish,lovin miss birdlady in that caddy!"...that goes on throughout the whole song and album...and that is one of the songs that i actually like..that was from #2!.....this has got to be a joke...i really hope fast money is better than this because i know that birdman can do wayyy better than this because mannie knows talent and if mannie works with him...he must be hott...he just has to dig down deeper to find where his talent is..but if "fast money" is'nt very good...then he should try to find some better lyracists because he really is a good rapper oh well better luck next time Baby...go out and get mannies new cd" the mind of mannie fresh" because it has got a lot of great beats and a lot of good lyrics...none of this garbage of an album...

I own the Hollywood Bowl Gershwin CD and I love it. I was surprised by it. Play the samples if you can but the singing and sound are clear and crisp and you can understand every word.

Since several other reviewers have given very good descriptions of this CD, I won't re-hash here, but simply say I agree with what they've said. I will add my two cents on a few points not mentioned, though.

Since the Wurlitzer 165 band organ upon which these musical selections are played is in such good condition, we get a musically idealized version of what we once heard at the merry-go-round. The sonic reality often was quite a bit less, with imperfectly working instruments and the sound of the drive motor as it pumped away to turn the carousel, not to mention the noise of the crowd and the children shouting and squealing. This is no criticism of the CD, though, since it only purports to present the music; it would take a lot more than a CD to present a realistic facsimile of the total experience.

The liner notes are brief, but provide some interesting background on the origin of carousels and the words themselves. I think the writer, Tupper L. Turner, deserves credit for his/her efforts.

I was surprised to see Track #30 listed as "Waltz (Title unknown)" when opera lovers will immediately recognize it as two tunes from Verdi's opera "Il Trovatore" (The Troubadour). The first tune is the soprano/tenor duet in the Miserere scene of Act IV; the second is the baritone aria "Il balen del suo sorriso." In any case, neither is a waltz proper, for both are in 6/8, not 3/4 time.

The selection of tunes, of course, depends on availability of the paper rolls which encoded them. I liked most of the tunes, familiar and otherwise, pretty well, and with 31 tracks there's quite a bit of all kinds there, including "The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down."

Overall, then, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the CD and the appropriateness of its content. There are several other CDs of this nature available, I know, but I'm not familiar enough with them to offer any comparisons. I just know that I like this one and am happy to have it in my collection. And I suspect that little children will love it!

Saluting the Wurlitzer 165.......2004-12-30

It's a toughie reviewing this album - I don't know quite how to rate it for the everyday listener, seeing as how band organ music is definitely an acquired taste. However, that said, if you happen to be a band organ nut, you're in for a treat with this CD. It's about as good as it gets.

Kudos to Klavier records for making a recording of this wonderful Wurlitzer 165 band organ - it sounds like a dream, and has transferred relatively well to CD format. My only complaint is that the glockenspiel sounds rather abrasive, and gets really grating when recorded onto a cassette tape. Otherwise, the album is pristine.

The tunes featured are all classic band organ offerings, and the rolls used are in splendid shape. The organ's mechanism performs beautifully - whatever "prominent Midwestern collection", as the liner notes read, it comes from is taking very good care of it.

Basically, this, alongside its sister album "Catch Another Brass Ring", stands as an ideal representation of what a Wurlitzer 165 should sound like. Band organ lovers will adore it. The average Joe? Hard to say...but it's certainly worth a try.

This is the perfect antidote for the blues! It is absolutely impossible to feel down once you begin listening to this CD! I use it to give me a lift whenever I need it. I DARE you to not giggle with glee upon pressing the "play" button! If you have fond remembrances of carousel music as a child, you will get goosebumps and feel warm and fuzzy all at once when you listen to this! Why take anti-depressant drugs when you can cure the blahs quickly and naturally with this CD? An exceptionally clear recording, I bumped it down to four stars ONLY because I liked the musical selection slightly better on their follow-up album, "Catch Another Brass Ring."

This album provides a very good way of making music a part of an infant's (or early childhood) development.

Wonderful CD!.......2006-05-27

My 22 month daughter LOVES this CD. She gets a look of sheer delight on her face when we play it. She calls it "Stars" because the first track is Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. We had to listen to track 4 six times the first time I played it because she loved it so much! She would say "again" every time it ended and told me it was "funny." All of the selections are fun to listen to and many make her want to dance. Highly recommended as a fun introduction to classical music.

This cd was given to us as a gift. I now hum classical music note for note!!! These Brainy Baby cds are great. I love them, my husband loves them, and best of all our baby loves them. This one has animal sounds and when she was a newborn she would look all around the room trying to find where the animals were. We still listen to this cd every day upon waking up...it gets us off on the right foot!
