5 out of 5 stars Fun Lowrider Music from O and Cool.......2007-06-14

Believe it or not, this is my first album, essentially, my intro to Rodney O and Joe Cooley, old school west coast legends. This album was released in early 1998. But, this album is a collection of the last studio sessions the 2 had together. A few songs are as old as 1995, as many of the songs have the mid 90's vibe. This album is all G-Funk straight thru with a bouncy vibe perfect for the lowrider and a house party. The beats are hella phat!!!!! If you like old school 80's style funk samples twisted into talkbox ridden bounce, this west coastin thumper is for you. Like the other reviewer states cleverly and on point, that fans of the Zapp and Roger legacy, and fans of Zapp sampled hip-hop will absolutely dig this one. "Funk In Yo Face" definitely slaps hard with that Cali Fonk that helped me fall in love with G-Funk in the first place. These 2 have great chemistry and a decent flow on this whole album.. It will not break any new lyrical ground, but that is not their plan. They want you to get your boogie on, and they want you to sit sideways and roll slow, loud, and bangin down the avenue as you floss your whip! This album is perfect for the sunny Cali ride. If you have a tricked out chrome trimmed Schwinn Lowrider Bike (or tricycle) fitted with a stereo system, bump this album; the two elements go like butter on toast!

5 out of 5 stars Original West Coast Cuts.......2006-10-27

Well, basically, if you like West Coast rap/hip-hop, this is the CD for you. Its all music u can bump in your car. My favorite songs are "Busting OUt"...what am i saying, i like all of the tracks, some more than others like "SO HIgh" is the jam. Its a pretty cool CD because if you are a Zapp and Roger fan, then you're gonna love it becuase they use the cool little voices. Well buy it and enjoy it. I know I did.

3 out of 5 stars A likeable live album.......2002-05-06

The live disc React was released by the Fixx in 1987. Of the 13 tracks, the first four were recorded in the studio--"Red Skies," "Big Wall," "Don't Be Scared," and "Rules and Schemes." I enjoy this second version of "Red Skies"; the original version is on the debut Shuttered Room. The other three studio cuts were especially recorded for inclusion on this album. I find them all to be worthy. Saxophone playing is included on "Don't Be Scared." I like the nine live songs. They were recorded in October 1986 during two concerts in Canada. All but one ("Deeper and Deeper") come from the first four full-length albums--1982's Shuttered Room, Reach the Beach (1983), 1984's Phantoms, and Walkabout (1986). Shuttered Room is represented by "Stand or Fall." "Saved by Zero" and "One Thing Leads to Another" are taken from Reach the Beach. "Are We Ourselves?" and "Less Cities" come from Phantoms, while Walkabout is represented by "Built for the Future," "Secret Separation," and "Chase the Fire." My favorites are "Stand or Fall," "Saved by Zero," "Less Cities," and "Chase the Fire." "Deeper and Deeper" comes from the soundtrack of the film Streets of Fire. The 13 songs are in a pop rock musical direction and have tight musicianship and sound quality. Cy Curnin does well with the vocals--he is a unique singer. The CD booklet consists of the song lyrics and several black-and-white photos of the band. The disc is just over 55 minutes. React is a pleasing live album from the Fixx.

5 out of 5 stars Great Stuff.......1999-04-15

I find this CD to be vastly superior to their studio stuff. I think Red Skies is particularly great, and most of the other cuts (with the exception of the two studio cuts) come off with a lot more energy than the studio stuff. My favorite Fixx CD!

2 out of 5 stars Not their best..........1998-12-19

Most of this album consists of ok live versions of their hits, and a couple of soso studio cuts. Not their best, but still a worthwhile purchase for the hardcore fan.

I used to love these guys. I'm from the same town these guys are from, and know the singer's brother, but man these guys used to be my favorite. I've been to shows with them playing at least 15 times, and the crowd always responded well to them. They had great breakdowns and great riffs.

3 out of 5 stars Okay, not as great as the green eyed bandit usually puts out.......2006-04-03

Erick Sermon is probably my favorite Producer/Rapper combinated artist but this was really nuthin special...
I became a fan after hearing his "duet" with Marvin Gaye, music and then I bought the album and became a certified fan.

Ratings of the E-dub albums I own:
    Music: 4.5/5
    Double or nuthin: 4.5/5
    Erick Onassis: 3.5/5
    Chilltown New york: 4/5
    React: 3.5/5

So as you can see, if you're planning to get an erick sermon album get those I rated higher before getting this...

Sure there is about 6 definite bangers and 4 more okay and only one bad one... a couple of tracks is trying to be commercial tracks...

4 out of 5 stars 4th solo is barely 4 stars, my least favorie of his solo's.......2005-11-04

Just 13 months since his best solo album "Music" was released, E-Bub is back with my least favorite of his albums, barely getting a 4 star rating. With 13 songs, 5 are ok, 1 I skip, and 7 are good, no classics on here. Guests are on 4 songs rapping and a few others doing the hooks. As always the green eyed Bandit's lyrics aren't the best, but the production on this isn't near his other albums, maybe because for some reason the Funklord only did 7 of the 13 when he usually does at leat 90% himself (which is probably why many didn't like this as much as his other albums). Just Blaze does 2 songs, Rick Rock, Kaos, Andre R., Megahertz all do 1 song. A good album for his fans but far from his best.

    #2 - 8

    4 out of 5 stars Slendid.......2003-05-06

"Double or Nothin" was on point. He hasn't done an albulm that good since. I will say that "React" is the best since. This album has quite a few hits, Its classic Erick Sermon. The Funklord in my opinion has returned. Out of the 12 music tracks on this album, 6 are true head bangers. Thats 50% of the album. In my opinion with todays albums not even having 3 good hits on them, I think that's excellent. If u lookin for that ghetto funk by Erick Sermon, this album is a must. Everybody mentions the commercial cut "REACT" with Redman, but that's not the best cut on there. Track 14 is the track that'll have your head bobbin off your neck. After that, track 12 with MC Lyte and Rah Digga is a head bobber in itself with vintage MC Lyte flowin like she always do and Rah Digga doin her thang on it. He didn't slip on Track 11 either with Keith Murray and Redman.

    1 out of 5 stars Haven't I heard this before?.......2003-04-10

I expected a lot better from E double. From one of the better hip-hop producers of all time, this album was wayyyyy below average.
Maybe its my fault...Whenever a new Eric B & Rakim, Nas, Roots or Redman album came out, I always graded those albums with a different scale that I judged the Afro-Man album. Feel me?
There is nothing on this album that you would remember ten minutes later. Nothing.
I'll take into consideration the fact that I'm changing as a hip hop fan (Hell, no album could ever touch Illmatic). But this album isn't even close to average!
Maybe I'm a little harsh, but that's my take on it. I'll never spend money on Erick Sermon again.

4 out of 5 stars not that bad.......2003-01-26

This CD is not one of erick's best work, but its worth buying. It is an album with a lot of head bangers, but some of the songs are lacking that hard-core Erick Sermon flavor. also it sound like most of the songs were written in the summer of 2002, and the album was released in november, which might be the reason why this album is not the best work E has ever done, be cause he didnt spend a lot of time writting it.
but if you know what to buy for your hip hop collection this album should be on the top of your list. its worth the money

4 out of 5 stars A Great Down Beat and Ambient Mix of Music.......2000-02-25

First off: Please ignore the last review. They were looking for Energy 52's "Cafe Del Mar" (a high energy Trance record on the Hooj label)...not even close...

What a great record! I already had owned Volume 2,4,5,6 and still needed 1 and 3 to complete my set. To be honest, I was a bit hesitant in getting vol.3 since it was the only one of the Cafe Del Mar series to be "domesticated" in the U.S. which normally means bad things. When I put this CD in for the first time I was just blown away at the beauty on this disc. Out of all the Cafe Del Mar series, this one has the smoothest blend of music. It is not as upbeat as 5 or 6 but it is more consistent and flows well. The first four tracks are a very relaxing set of ambient/balearic tunes that really elevate the listener. These tracks are not only relaxing but are very beautiful and deeply satisfying. I personally love Nova Nova's "Tones" (Track 2). It is a piano solo that moves in and out with sweeping emotion. Pat Meheny follows next with a nice island/flamenco/guitar track that really takes you away. Miro's earlier paradise, a slower more "enigma-esque" groove follows and brings beats into the picture so that others can follow while still maintaining that pensive, relaxed mood. Jose Padilla has weaved a web of magic on this disc that can only be "Cafe del Mar". I am continually amazed by Jose's eclectic taste in music. If you haven't bought any of the series, try this one if you'd like a mellow introduction to the series, or volume 5 or 6 for a more upbeat set. Really, they're all amazing and this is the ONLY compilation series I have ever heard such consistency on. Worth the heavy price tag for the rest of them. So here's my order of the whole series: 5,6,3,4,2,1.

1 out of 5 stars don't be fooled, this is not trance.......2000-01-10

this cd is not what it would appear to be. it is not trance and has nothing to do with energy 52's cafe del mar

4 out of 5 stars Their two best albums in one package........2002-10-11

The Fireballs didn't have many hits in the late '60s, but this CD has two of their best songs: "Bottle of Wine" (early 1968) and "Come On React!" (late 1968). "Come On React!" is an extremely well-written song in typical '60s style, and has a very positive, active sound that is alone worth the price of the album. Another appealing song, if very obscure, is "Mr. Reeves" with its mysterious guitar sound, pretty harmonies, and strange story. "Groovy Motions" has an almost excessively '60s sound (Austin Powers would love it) but it also has a good sound and fast tempo and is still appealing.

4 out of 5 stars The essence of the Fireballs, the essence of the 60's.......2001-01-14

I had the vinyl album since it's first release. I just had to buy the CD. This album is a perfect picture of the young and carefree 1960's before the protest songs. My favorite tracks, like "Groovy Motions" and "Hurry Hurry" make me want to get out my Lovin' Spoonful, Monkees, and Mama's and Papa's albums. The Fireballs have a sound that is both polished and homespun at the same time. I like the good "enjoy life" attitude of the music. I could listen to this album again and again.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars "You Got The Love" ?.......2004-12-31

I'm certain this cd is outstanding. "You Got The Love" is a powerful song. But I hesitate to purchase after reading the earlier reviewer's statement to 'get the UK Import because the cd here does not include the track "You Got The Love"'.
Can anyone say if this is true? I've run into this problem buying here before and don't want the hassle of making returns again. Would appreciate clarification. Thanks!

5 out of 5 stars Sex and The City and more!.......2004-05-06

I got this CD for the Sex and the City song and was surprised by how great it is. I like the first song-Love Yourself MORE than You Got the Love. This is my first exposure to her-and it is a great introduction to her music.

4 out of 5 stars You Got The Love.......2004-03-14

Divinely-inspired modern dance music secular enough for the club crowd but spiritual enough for Staton's Christian fans. Impeccably produced by K-Klass, with the fabulous added bonus of the Now Voyager remix of "You Got The Love" recently featured on the closing credits of the final "Sex and the City" episode. The new version of "Young Hearts Run Free," while inferior to the original, is infinitely more danceable. It's nowhere near as terrific as "Love On Love," "What Do You Want and "Love Has Come To Stay" -- all of which are dancefloor stormers -- and "Outside In", a terrific midtempo ballad with crystalline production. "You're Still the Lightning," written by vastly underrated dance diva Billie Ray Martin, is also a highlight. Don't miss this record, which has inexcusably remained unreleased in the U.S. Do make sure to get the UK import; the Japanese version doesn't include "You Got The Love."

5 out of 5 stars THE FIRST LADY OF SOUTHERN SOUL is back...and sounds GREAT!!.......2001-06-12

I have been a Candi Staton fan for years and was pleased to find out that Candi released a new non-gospel album. I love all of her albums (both soul and gospel). The "Outside In" album showcases Candi at her best with wonderful songs that send a positive message. There are some catchy songs on here with a strong beat, including LOVE ON LOVE(written by Boy George), BOUNCING BACK, and the remake of the classic, YOUNG HEARTS RUN FREE. The one thing I like about this album is it has hidden messages that can be linked to her relationship that she has with Jesus. In the songs, OUTSIDE IN, YOU'RE THE LIGHTNING and YOU GOT THE LOVE, you can translate the lyrics to a deeper realiztion of how she is talking about the relationship between Jesus and his people. For example, "I'm on the outside, you're on the inside.....I'd rather be inside...give me a chance" is talking about how Jesus can benefit one's life.

Besides the religious aspect that this album has, it has upbeat songs that make you wanna dance. I enjoy listening to all of Candi Staton's songs, from the FAME records to the her new gospel album, "Here's A Blessing." My favorite Candi Staton album would have to be either "Young Hearts Run Free" 1976 or "Candi Staton" 1980. I just hope that Warner Brothers Records will reissue the six albums that she did when she was on that label. Because all of the albums (which I have on vinyl) are worth reissuing.

Candi Staton will always remain one of the pioneers of the Muscle Shoals Sound that made her famous. This album is worth purchasing at the import price. She is an excellent singer and needs more recognition, and with an album like "Outside In", maybe others will realize this. Thanks.

5 out of 5 stars YOUNG HEARTS RUN FREE.......2000-07-28

Young Hearts run free is always my no 1 song since 1977 I am listing to this song almost every day.It remind me of a lot of memories and when I was young. Love to have photo signed by Candi Staton. Thank you
