Now that everybody wears Rastafarian-flavored red, green, and gold wristbands and the Signal De Plane and Pon De River dances have grown to macarena-like proportions, you have Sean Paul (and the guy who actually invented these dances, the "Energy God" Elephant Man) to thank. This re-release intended for international markets trims the fat from the original Dutty Rock by losing the filler skits, songs ("It's On"), and adding the previously unavailable "Baby Boy" single featuring Beyonce's seductive croons. This one's for fans who don't have Beyonce's Dangerously in Love album (the only other place to get this popular reggae-lite single) and those who want to renew their love affair with the Diwali riddim popularized on Paul's "Get Busy"--and subsequently re-sung on chart toppers by Lumidee ("Never Leave You (Uh Oooh, Uh Oooh)") and fellow dancehall vocalist Wayne Wonder ("No Letting Go"). --Dalton Higgins

Album Description

International edition of the hit 2002 album includes one exclusive bonus track 'Baby Boy' (duet with Beyonce). Atlantic.

3 out of 5 stars Party Rocker For Sure.......2007-01-06

Admittedly, I don't have the faintest idea as to what Sean Paul is singing/talking/toasting/rapping about but this is a fun, shake your groove thang, head bobber. I don't know how anyone can sit down when they put this on. The beats and grooves are just hot. Aside from the hits and songs that got some radio play, Shout, International Affair, Concrete, and Punkie are stand-outs. Sean Paul did his thing on this one and he's a cutie too!

3 out of 5 stars Hard to tell what he's saying.......2006-11-12

Hip Hop's Sean Paul brought the island flavor into the Top 40. His first single "Get Busy" sounds great and sets the stage for Dutty Rock, his official debut album. Though his English is a little iffy and it's hard to tell what he's jabbering about on record, the beats are great in any language. Highlights are the aforementioned smash "Get Busy," "Gimme the Light," "Like Glue," "Baby Boy" (with Beyonce) and "Top of the Game." It's not a perfect listen but it's pretty good.

4 out of 5 stars Just alright..........2006-11-01

3.5 stars. Admittedly I'm not a reggae or rastafarian fan. But I'd heard enough single cuts to make me believe that this would be a good CD. It was and it wasn't. I agree the flow of the stongs seemed a bit chopping and majority sounded alike. It's a very long CD which aides in you getting your money's worth, but overall-it's just okay.

2 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money........2006-08-21

I made the mistake of buying this cd for one song basically. I would have saved some money had I just burn the one song that I like. The songs just really do not seem to flow very well together. There is too much down time between songs and too much talking. "Get Busy" is definetly the best song on the cd. I will admit I listen to it over and over and do not get tired of it. However, his newest cd "The Trinity" is much better.

5 out of 5 stars King of Dance Hall shows us his shiny crown.......2006-05-05

Best album ever...."Get Busy" got me and my girlfrien dancing all night during the school dances. You need to get this album if you know what is good fer you

Sean Paul follows the footpaths of Beenie Man and Super Cat (whom he sounds and looks like) as the next high-billing dancehall artists capable of sitting in the upper echelons of American popular music. Paul enthusiasts still buzzing over his breakthrough "Infiltrate" or "Deport Them" tunes won't be disappointed. "Gimme the Light," an anthemic pro-blunt tune with a tremendously catchy hook ("Just gimme the light, and pass the 'dro") will make your CD player's rewind button call for much love. The other standout tracks that complement Paul's "sing-jay" (a Ja Rule-ian mix of singing and rapping) delivery are a string of tried-and-tested regional hits from earlier in 2002: "Like Glue" on the Buyout riddim and the sexual innuendo-driven "Can You Do the Work?"--which guests crooner Cecile. When Paul goes experimental with lyrics (e.g., he raps in Spanish on "Punkie") or beats (he utilizes speedy classical Indian music riddims on "Street Respect"), the results are mediocre. Hip-hop contributions from Tony Touch and the Neptunes ("Bubble") also do little to enhance what would have otherwise been a more exceptional, pure dancehall album. However, the dancehall-uninitiated are certain to enjoy this like they enjoyed Shaggy's Hotshot. --Dalton Higgins

1 out of 5 stars WACK WACK WACK.......2005-09-26

This guy is not Hiphop he is an embarasment to the world of Hiphop. I am beyond tired with Daddy Yankit, Shawn Poo and all of these other wanabe reggae latin crap rip off artists. this guys voice is just one party reefer stripclub monotone through out the entire album. this CD has absolutely NO lyrical content. dont even get me started on the music because every song on this album sounds exactly the same. Bob Marley is probably turning in his grave. 0 stars

4 out of 5 stars IT IS NOT EXPLICIT, dumb rater guys!.......2005-06-10

This cd is really cool, its good for like dancing, and although all songs are good, the best are GET BUSY SHOUT (STREET RESPECT) GIMME THE LIGHT and ESA LOCA. Finally its not explicit it uses like 2 bad words.

5 out of 5 stars awesome party cd!!! get up and dance!!!.......2004-12-19

dutty rock rocks!!!, there are alot of standout tracks on this cd such as "get busy, "like glue","shout", "baby boy" and many many others. There are alot of good songs on this cd even the remixes arn't bad, its best to put on as a party cd as the number of danceable tracks are endless. this music is mostly dancehall not really reggae(think of shaggy's summertime track) but its a cd that one of the best of that genre.

1 out of 5 stars A Beenie Man wannabe.......2004-08-31

What Crap! This CD sucks. The guys voice is so annoying. Buy Beenie Man instead.Forget this stupid prat!!!

4 out of 5 stars Very Fun Music.......2005-11-21

This is the clean version, but I don't know if you could tell if he was cussing if it wasn't because you can't really understand 90 percent of what he says. But thats not important. Its all about the dancehall beats and his jamaican style rapping/singing is very fun to listen to.

4 out of 5 stars Perfect if your parents dont like explicit lyrics.......2003-11-02

If your parents don't like listening to you music cussing 500 words per minute (just kidding) then this cd is perfect. You can't tell when he cusses in the real song because they recorded new songs (same songs) with the cussing out and new words in. The tracks are also very creative. I have people tell me that Sean Paul's songs all sound the same. This is NOT TRUE. If you actually listen to the music, every track is unique.
