Four years after "Jump"-ing their way into a hugely successful kiddie rap ride, it was clear the two Chrises who make up Kriss Kross (17-year-old Chris Kelly and 16-year-old Chris Terry) were only as young, rich, and dangerous as their writer, producer, and mentor, Atlantan Jermaine Dupri, wanted them to be. Still calling all the shots--even penning most of his young proteges' raps about themselves--Dupri's third Kriss Kross album attempted to lay the groundwork for the teens' entry into a prosperous hip-hop adulthood.

Though Young, Rich & Dangerous offers a slim eight songs and only about a half-hour of music, Dupri makes good use of his time with a mellow keyboard-laced and bass-heavy groove so smooth it credibly recreates Dr. Dre and Snoop's original west coast G-funk with a (mostly) PG-13 attitude. A handful of the cuts, including the title track, "Live and Die For Hip Hop," and especially the hit party single "Tonite's tha Night," glide on the hooks and melodies created with help from Trey Lorenz's and Aaliyah's R&B vocals and guest-raps from pint-sized homegirl Da Brat. The boys of Kriss Kross do their part by delivering a postpubescent tag team flow that combines the swagger of youth with the surety of seasoned professionals. And with "Money, Power, and Fame" and "Hey Sexy"--two tracks the duo wrote, produced, and perform without Dupri's input--they even assert a small measure of independence. Not a moment too soon: For rappers now old enough to drive their own Mercedes, the time to speak for themselves has surely arrived. --Roni Sarig

This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!

Very Informative and Enjoyable.......2006-11-20

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.

Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08

I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!

I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.

The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

Selections from the Greatest Voice of the Last Hundred Years.......2007-03-13

Mario Lanza was, arguably, the greatest tenor and greatest singer of this and the last century. It is difficult to appreciate him without listening to a variety of selections. This collection has some of his best recordings and exhibits the versatility and variety that he possessed that permitted him to "crossover" from opera to popular music with a ease.

I recommend this for those who already know Lanza to some extent but want to go into more depth and understand his marvelous skills.

I had forgotten what a beautiful voice Mario Lanza had. This collection contains opera and pop selections that exhibit the power yet sweetness of his voice. Fortunately, we have his CD's and videos so we can remember and listen to his gorgeous, vibrant voice and personality. I highly recommend this collection along with his wonderful movies, especially The Great Caruso.

The Mario Lanza Collection is a three CD set and it has 61 songs and they all sound great. The mastering on this set is excellent and the song choice is very very good. It would have been perfect if they added a forth CD with more Arias, Italian songs and Sacred Arias. BUT still this set is a great introduction to Lanza. Lanza's voice was powerful and beautiful; if you are a fan of great singing, you will love Lanza. Highlights on this CD set are; Be my Love, Because your Mine, Serenade, With a Song in My Heart, Temptation, The Lord's Prayer, Ciribirbin, O Solo Mio, Ariverducci Roma, and on and on. They are many many great songs on this set, and I highly recommend it.

I first bought this CD back in 1996. I thought it was a great album then. I just pulled it out today and realized that it is Kris Kross' best album. All of the beats were tight. I know all of the lyrics to every song. If you like music from the mid 90's this is one of the cds that you need to get. I think it is a great cd. Anyone that rates it lower than 3 stars is simply hater.

There is not one song on here worth listening to, let alone mention. They should have quit back when Da Bomb wasn't as big as they hoped it would be. Do Not Miss this sparkling CCM power pop gem........2006-07-11

I hate to see everyone ignoring such a stellar release. Selling this CD for a penny?! All I can tell you is to buy it. I promise you will find more than one song that will brings you joy, a couple that will inspire you to move along and others that will just plain touch your heart of hearts. Loaded with melody, sincere vocals and spot on harmonies. Wonderful songs written for the most part by band members Mead Cheseboro and Rob Bender with some help from CCM stalwarts Mike Roe (77's), Terry Taylor (Daniel Amos,Lost Dogs, etc) and Gene Eugene (Adam Again, Lost Dogs, etc) and produced by the latter two. So what are you waiting for? Plunk down your penny and get some seriously celebratory tunes!!
