Girl, Interrupted, the movie adaptation of Susanna Kaysen's memoir of being forced into a psychiatric institute, faces the challenge that all films set in the '60s must overcome: How do you create a memorable soundtrack that isn't filled with the same "greatest hits" that we hear on the radio (or any number of mediocre compilations)? Thankfully, Girl does have some eclectic moments: The Mama's & the Papa's "Got a Feelin'" isn't a tune we hear everyday, the reflective Jefferson Airplane song "Comin' Back to Me" fits the movie nicely, and Wilco's "How to Fight Loneliness"--though written 30 years after the film's events take place--is a welcome modern touch. Of course, we get overplayed classic rock, too--Merrilee Rush & the Turnabouts' "Angel of the Morning," the Band's "The Weight," and Them's "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue." But for soundtrack buffs, the real treasures are at the end. Especially "The End of the World" by Skeeter Davis. A few weeks ago, I was in a store where it was playing, which is weird because I rarely hear that song. But all I could think of was Susanna walking upstairs to find Daisy, who had hanged herself in the bathroom.

Also love "Downtown" (I ended up buying a long fur coat similar to Lisa's) and "It's all over now, Baby Blue."

Great mix of classic 60s songs plus the Wilco one and instrumentals. Highly recommended if you love the movie.

Good Disc.......2005-08-07

Girl, Interrupted is a great movie, and this soundtrack is a wonderful addition to my collection. The first half of the disk contains the popular songs that were used within the movie, and the second half -- the better half in my opinion -- contains instrumental music by Mychael Danna. Listening reminded me how powerful the music was to the picture, and how powerful the story was.

Im so happy a reviwer found out the name of the song at the begining of the movie "bookends" thanks, i love that song also the songs in the sountrack are great from "how to fight the loneliness" to "end of the world" which are my favorites out of the album the score is great i totally recomend it.

Slept on album!.......2006-08-22

Ms. Jade was on a roll with the buzz she was getting from the singles like feel the girl and big head but she killed the buzz quickly with that godawful ching ching! Standout tracks: FEEL THE GIRL, BIG HEAD, DIFFERENT, COUNT IT OFF, STEP UP, THE COME UP, JADE THE CHAMP, DEAD WRONG, CHING CHING(PART 2) etc. Filler:ching ching, really dont want my love, why you tell me that. Jade has skills and she easily makes into the hip hop elite category. Any other single from her album might got her more records sales than she had and all it took was one wack track to kill her buzz. Damn!

Big Head!.......2005-09-09

Miss Jade got it going on with this album. She got some good skills and great beats from Timbo. The album is pretty hot.. my favorite song has got to be Big Head. I aint never heard a song like it. ITS HOT!!. Good hip hop.

This album is crazy sick! When I first heard "Feel The Girl" I wuz like damn this gurl got some skillz. So I gave it a shot n decided 2 cop it just cuz Im down w/ the Timbaland crew. I aint dissapointed either. About 90% of this album is perfection. Ms Jade kno how 2 fit n bring out the best in Tim's beatz. There only like 2 bad songs and they at the very end (not produced by Timbo). But if u like hot beatz n sick lyrics then cop it quick.

Ms Jade can rap sometimes. What ruins her music are these dumb choruses (IE track "BIG HEAD" : "get your big head on the floor; you ain't ever seen me move like this"). That is the stupidest chorus I've ever heard in my entire life and I don't need a concussion. Then on "Ching Ching" it is so annoying having Nelly Furtado in the background mumbling "Ching Ching" along with some other gibberish throughout the whole song. Those are probably the 2 worst songs on the album.

all about timbo.......2005-02-19

This album is all about the production. Yea, it's "Ms. Jade's" cd, but its nothing without the timbaland beats. If u look past the tight beats, its just mediocore spittin. Still, the beats make it a worthwhile cd, definately buy it. The top tracks are Dead Wrong, Feel the Girl, Big Head, and Ching Ching part II

One of my favorite CD's.......2005-02-08

I found this CD in of all places a Walmart.
But any relation to the ordinary stops there.
I have a considerable collection of Debussy's piano music featuring some of the greatest pianists of all time, but none is superior to this. I can only agree with most everything said in the other reviews and add that this CD provides an excellent introduction to this music.
Lipson-Gruzen (an admittedly unusual name) plays the music with an unusual boldness and emotional immediacy that completely dispels the esoteric veneer that often makes Debussy seem more obscure than he ought to.
This is a CD you will play over and over.

Great affordable intro to music of Debussy.......2000-07-30

Ms. Lipson-Gruzen performs some of Claude Debussy's best work here beautifully. The recording quality and piano sound are more than adequate, and the performances are very solid, technically impeccable, and notably expressive. One of my favorite debussy compositions has always been his classic "la fille aux cheveaux de lin" ("the girl with the flaxen hair") and it is one of my favorite pieces on this recording, with a brilliant performance. I think this CD is an exceptional value, and I feel almost anyone who enjoys music would love it. Like i said... it's a steal.

finest collection of Debussy piano music in the stereo age.......2000-07-16

This CD provides the ideal introduction to the piano music of Claude Debussy, or for that matter, to impressionistic music in general. Ms. Lipson Gruzen has found the ideal combination of Romantic qualities; beautiful floating shimmering yet emotionally satisfying sound, with a taught sense of rhythm and classical restraint that toghether make the music a pleasure to the senses as well as to the mind. At last, Debussy that is both accessable and inspiring! The pieces she chooses are among the most appealing and characteristic as well. This is one of my "desert island" albums.

With the possible exception of Walter Giesiking's landmark early recordings, I have never heard nor hoped to have heard Debussy pianism as superbly idiomatic and expressive as is the playing on this CD. Ms. Lipson-Gruzen creates a ravishingly beautiful sonic world, one that I look forward to visiting often.

A revelation.......2000-02-02

This New York pianist has been well known and highly regarded in musical and critical circles for many years, but has made few CD's. This one was new to me. What a find! This is artistry of the highest order. Ms. Lipson-Gruzen's Debussy pianism is simply ideal; sensuous, evocative, and ravishingly beautiful in sound. After repeated listening, it continues to prove a revelation. An incredible bargin as well!
