Having watched this series on PBS, I knew what I was getting when I made this purchase. For anyone new to the blues and wanting a good starter disc for a well rounded taste, this disc is a must have. It affords the listener a sampling of the evolution of the blues sound, beginning with the founders right up to today. For the established blues fan, it's a nice addition to their collection. A great disc for travelling.

Poor Blues Collection.......2006-09-14

As a long time Blues player, I was very disappointed with this set from two perspectives: poor quality recordings on the CD itself (I expected a better digitally mastered sound, and the imprinted sound volume was sorta lower than normal) and the actual collection of selected songs (not overly representative of the best Blues by these artists or Blues in general). I had seen part of it on PBS TV and bought the collection w/o first listening to it. So after spending the big bucks for it, I was sorely disappointed and do NOT recommend it for anyone serious about the Blues. It's just an okay set. There are many other higher quality collections online. Check them out first.

Excellent Blues Compilation!.......2004-03-27

This is a seriously excellent sampler of blues. It gives a great introduction to the genre for those that are either new to the blues or are interested to expand their knowledge of the classics. Of course, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix make their way onto this CD. BB King and John Lee Hooker are on it, as they should be. I was disappointed not to find a single song by Albert King - I think he made a serious contribution to the blues. Otherwise, it's an interesting and mostly quite a worthy selection.

Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek franchise now encompasses five television series, a cartoon show, 10 feature films, an IMAX presentation, and an interactive Las Vegas spectacular--not bad for a much-mocked '60s TV show its network discarded after barely three seasons. With Enterprise, the prequel that follows the first starship Enterprise on her original missions, composer and previous ST series vet Dennis McCarthy takes the saga's musical reins, instantly imbuing it with a familiar, if more dignified and restrained, sense of discovery and adventure with his pastoral "New Enterprise" and "New Horizons" themes. If his "Archer's Theme" briefly strays into overwrought rock heroics, the composer's edgy, rhythmic Klingon cues add a sense of almost palpable danger to the soundtrack. Tense, unusually brooding, and marvelously atmospheric, McCarthy's scoring here harks back to the best of Goldsmith's ST film work. "The Rescue" even recalls the powerfully dramatic brass writing of Herrmann in his prime. Recording on September 11th was quite an experience; we (the orchestra and the scoring crew) were the only activity on the Paramount lot that horrific day. The music from that day actually sounded more intense than the first part of the score recorded on September 10th. Some of my musicians had relatives in NY that morning and had not heard from them and yet they came and played - heroes in their own way.

I've seen many thoughtful reviews on this space; thank you for your kind comments. I'm giving the musicians and the crew a 5 star rating -

This is great music to listen to when you want to relax. Every track is beautifully done and sounds great. I love how two versions of the theme song are included, the TV version and the full length version, both sound great. The songs themselves sound very modern and up to date, which definitely is part of the its appeal. "Archers Theme" is a beautiful song that I am happy it was included. Overall, this is a cool CD that you should own if you love the music from the TV series

Following up on the release of his debut CD, The Voice, Russell Watson is back with Encore, another mix of opera favorites and popular songs. By now Watson has become virtually a household name--he sells out large concert venues and remains on the top-seller charts. Russell Watson is amazing. It is truly a delight to hear him sing both the pop and the arias, for he performs both equally well. His rendition of Volare is very fun, and when he sings Somewhere, it's simply breathtaking. His duet with Lionel Richie was also splendid. They really did sound fantastic together. The two low points for me were The Prayer, because I couldn't stand Russell's duet partner, Lulu, and Don't Know How I Got By, because the song just didn't seem to suit Russell's voice. However, the other tracks more than make up for those few inferior selections. Russell Watson truly is a talented man, and I highly recommend this album.

I have all 4 of Russell's Cd's and this is by far his wrose.
The Classical stuff is great but The pop stuff is some of the wrose pop stuff he has even done.

A copy in every household . . ........2003-02-09

This disc is so chock-full of classic scores from classic films that every movie-and-music lover should own a copy. Thanks to Robert Townson for producing this collection and the entire Varese film score catalog. My favorite tracks from this disc are "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf"; "Star Trek: The Motion Picture"; and "Midway".

A sampler feat. some of the greatest film scores in history........2001-09-06

Words cannot convey what a collection like this means to a film music collector such as myself. Varese Saraband has been releasing quality film scores and music for the last 20 plus years. My vinyl and CD collections burst with so much great stuff from Varese. One day I was looking in the bins of my local record store and noticed this little gem of a collection. I looked at it and saw a virtual cornucopia of the great film score cues for only $ (and 2 discs). So I purchased it and opened it up. Much to my surprise, the booklet is chock full of information about each scoring session and pictures to boot. I also learned more about some of these wonderful pieces as well. Well thanks to Mr. Townson and this nice collection, I plan to purchase some of the recordings these cues were released on since I don't own classics like Viva Zapata, Alex North's 2001, Superman (not the Varese version, I do have the other release), and Patton. Guess I will have to save a few pennies, but it will be worth it. I recommend this collection to anybody who wants to discover and learn about the history of film music. I also think it's a great listen from the first song to the last on both discs. My compliments to Varese on a great collection of classics (and keeping it under $).

The music that this label releases is without a doubt in a class by themselves, always perfection. Here we have the 500th CD release from ~ "The Man Behind The Music" ~ Mr. Robert Townson. So much care is taken with each album, that you feel you are witnessing the birth of a newborn baby, and that may be just what it is.

For those of us who buy each album ~ people who work to create them ~ the artwork ~ musicians ~ and a list of some of the most talented composers and conductors ~ John Barry, Elmer Bernstein, John Debney, Georges Delerue, Cliff Eidelman, Jerry Goldsmith, Bernard Herrmann, Michael Lang, Henry Mancini, Joel McNeely, Alfred Newman, Alex North, Miklos Rozsa, Dimitri Shostakovich, Frederic Talgorn, Franz Waxman, Rick Wentworth and John Williams ~ and as always the sound quality and performances by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Seattle Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra and National Philharmonic Orchestra is dynamically flawless and simply superb.

This economically priced 2-CD-Set ~ pure film score sampling ~ is worth it's weight in gold. One should not have a favorite from this vast collection, but if asked ~ it would be "TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD" (1962) composer Elmer Bernstein took it to the limit and beyond, the story-line, cast and score was the perfect marriage.

Anything by Kal David is simply delicious to listen to. Unfortunately there isnt much Kal stuff around, so jump on this one. Whether you go back to Kal's Illinois Speed Press days or his incredible run with the Rhisestones on thru today, anything Kal plays or sings is a treat to listen to.

Kal David was the lead singer of the a great east coast regional band called the Fabulous Rhinestones in the 70's. While it was always clear that the "blues" had an influence in his early years, it is quite clear that he would love to retrun that style in Double Tuff. His vocals are at top form and the band is very tight. This effort could have been even better if Kal had made a decision to stay with one style of music. The tunes jump around from "Rock" to "Pop" to "Jazz" to "Blues" with no sense of order. For old Rhinestones fans this is a must for everyone else, try it, you may find a new artist to add to your collection.

This cd show what bone's style was before they sign with Eazy ruthless records....For a low budget company these beat's r pretty good I must admit....Lyrically Bone was the same still had that kinda mo murda lyrics and hood athemns we all grown to luv...A question alot of my personal friends ask is it worth money well depends are u really....If you listened to Bone for Eternal olny and only have E then no...If you own most of there stuff and you listened to them onces every couple of week's or more then yes of course DIE HARD FAN'S ONLY....I recommend Ebay first before here @ ebay they usually have starting bid a resonable price and I purchase mine for about 33 bucks plus s/h....So cd wise i pay about 29 dollaz here they jack the price up really high and it's a only buy now thing....Yellow cover the original one the red and black one reprint stoney burke records I belave name og it reprinted when bone got populare to try make some profit off them....But even the reprint now out print so it doesnt matter what cover really that's the only differense tracks wise all the same....Bone album from best to worse my OP...

this album was made by 4 teenagers in 93 and while not mature yet this album still have a eerie & disturtbing maturity to it.bone was obviously inspired by NWA,as it shows on this short but sweet album.i camed across this album around 96 when E.1999 Eternal was virtually everywhere.a guy at school said he had a old under ground album of bone before they was signed to ruthless,and before the name change to BTNH.at the time of this album they was called B.O.N.E Enterpris.so needless to say i got the tape from the guy at school went home and and blasted it on my stereo.

i was first and formost suprised at how tight and cohesive they were.and their vocabulary was verry impressive at this time.the content was also verry dark and brooding.don't let songs like flow motion and def d!ck fool you.this album is a huge pre curser to their first two mainstream albums.

HELL SENT-This song shows off bone's story telling capabilities wich was later showcased on the song Down 71.the song is about bone entering hell to reclaim their souls from the devil.and on they journey they mow down demons & wiches to get to the abyss and reclaim their souls.i went around my whole neighborhood trying to explain how deep this song was.

Sons of assassins-kray and bizzy probably spit the most sickest verses ever on this song.kray talks about killing some bullies at school with his dads gun.and bizzy talk about getting into a shoot out against the cops with his dad.only to be killed by the cops,befor he dies he manages to tell his dad he loves him

#1 Assassin-is a cold blooded song by layzie bone where he just goes off on the mic.ythis deffinatley should show why lay deserves more respect

Ganksta Attitude-a straight out of compton like cut that has all four members tearing thru the track with urgent agression.

Everyday Thang-a laid back g-funk like rap track thats verry reminicent of west goast rap.

theres other great tracks aswell as this album astounishingly have no filler.but the aformentioned songs are the standout tracks that shows bone vocal versatility and agression.and the production seems to be top notch for a small underground album.as a matter of fact i'm suprised at how sharp it is.

overall this album keeps this ominous sense of haunting dread going thru the album.wich is amazing giving the age of this group at the time.anywayz this is one of verry few "before they was starz" album i would recommend.

Great early Bone Thugs (4.5/5).......2006-02-19

This 1993 underground release lets you see how the Bone Thugs family started. It's a great album all around. There are ten tracks and no filler at all. The production is surprisingly high quality for an underground album, and the thugs' talent is very evident even as teenagers. Their style isn't as defined or mature yet, so some of the music reflects styles prevalent in 1993 rap. Layzie Bone pretty much anchors this CD, along with Krayzie, who sounds really different because his voice hasn't developed its deep quality yet. "Faces of Death" is an awesome CD that any Bone fan should own.

"Flow Motion" is one of the most impressive tracks from Bone. It has a simple, catchy piano hook and the fastest rapping I've ever heard. Krayzie Bone's verse at the end of the song is the quickest lyrics I've ever listened to. "Everyday Thing" sounds like a signature BTNH track, it could have easily come off one of their later albums. It has a slowed down, g-funk beat and a good chorus with great rhymes. "Def Dick" is a reggae influenced track, common in 93 rap, a solid song. "Hell Sent" is one of their hardest songs ever, a crazy thuggish song with a scary chorus and singing. I also love "Sons of Assassins", a crazy slowed down track with awesome flow and voice sample. "Bless da 40 Oz." and "#1 Assassin" are awesome too. Every track on "Faces of Death" is noteworthy and this is as entertaining an album as pretty much every other Bone CD.

"Faces of Death" is worth owning for any passing Bone Thugs fan. If you want to support the group and pay [...] for it, be my guest, but it can be found elsewhere or for download for a lot less, even free. I recommend it to any fan of BTNH or 93 rap.

Simply excellent. Must have. What else can I say? Right up there with the best of Greg Brown, Bill Morrissey, and the like.

Hate to pick nits, but the amazon reviewer did make one mistake. I am sure the backup vocalist Cormac McCarthy is NOT the novelist, but instead the folk singer from Maine that roomed with Bill Morrissey in college... Can't find him on Amazon, but looking for Cormac McCarthy is worth the effort.

I recently heard Bob Martin perform, and was absolutely impressed with his beautiful lyrics and voice. I have heard him compared to Bob Dylan, but I feel this is an insult to Bob's songwriting and sound; he posseses the control and insight I have never heard from Dylan. I was a fan of Bob Martin as soon as I had heard "River Turns the Wheel", but seeing him in person was a completely diffrent exprience; the lyrics I had not listened to closely suddenly struck meaning within me.

I would greatly reccomend "River Turns the Wheel" to anyone; a lover of good, thoughtful folk music; someone looking for new music with a real sound to it; someone who understands what Bob Martin puts forth on this incredible CD.

I gave this CD to my husband who had heard him years ago and has been searching to hear him again. He loved the CD and so do I. Reminds me of Dylan, but is his own artist. Quite polished, great poetry. Definitely worth enjoying.

I'm a native of Lowell, Ma. and even knew Bob Martin but never knew he was such a great singer and song writer. Traveled to a lot of different places but always remembered Lowell. Bob Martin's songs just came to my attention last year and I've bought both CD's. You don't have to be from Lowell for the songs to make you nostalgic. Just be from this planet and the words will make you think and remember. I can't wait for him to make another CD. The two I have are getting worn out! He's great!

oh how the wicked farleys knock my socks off! That Robbie Laxso is oh so sexy and I once saw him with a j robert crowley shirt and i also know his alter-ego bowling friend Cornelius. I cannot believe nobody has reviewed "Sentinel and Enterprise" by The Wicked Farley's. I saw them at the Firefox lounge in Minneapolis, and they are fantastic live, if ear-piercing loud. Their intensity live is captured well on disc as well. This is a great record, a great band, and I cannot reccomend this more. If you like indie rock, this album is for you. Go and buy it, you will not be dissapointed.
