4 out of 5 stars KEEP YO COMPOSURE.......2006-07-09

One of the greats from pastor, and a good move on his part, this album was by far his most advertised album, because of those who did work on it, and because of this his intro album had a look back on his other previous albums, this got new and looking fans a good look at what his other albums had to offer, this i thought was pretty smart of him, on top of that, the album has much to offer from the producer/mc that is Pastor Troy. All the songs are different and leave ya guessing. One of my favorites is the (in my opinion) is the second track "Universal Soldier", so, if your a fan, or looking for a new favorite, or just like good rap music, that is different than the same Drugs, sex, killing mold, then pick this one up

5 out of 5 stars We Ready!!!.......2006-03-07

You have to give this CD 5 stars. This is the kind of CD you dream about, the kind that you can pop in your player and listen to the entire album without skipping tracks. It really is that good. Personally, PT's best work. Tracks like; "Who, what, wen, where," "Universal Solder," "Are we cuttin'" These three songs alone could sell themselves. Last but not least, PT throws on "Vica Versa," as sort of the icing on the cake. This is a must buy!!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Well Un HUH!!!!!!!.......2006-02-09

This is one of his best albums and has great tracks like Vica Versa, Are We Cuttin f/ Ms. Jade, Who What When Where, and If I Wasn't Rappin f/ UGK. This is a whole 'nother level better then the peice of sh*t Face off Part II he dropped this year. This is one of the albums you need to get.

4 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars.......2004-11-04

My least favorite of his 4 major label albums. His best is by far "Face Off" and "By Any Means Necessary" & "Face Off Pt. 2" are better than this one as well, but this cd still has its highpoints. He stays true to his down south Georgia sound that he loves. He still has those tracks that tell ghetto tales and he tells 'em well his his signature deep, raspy voice. It has 2 classics, 4 that I skip, 2 are ok, the rest are good. Production is great and bad depending on the song. Lil Jon does 3, Timbaland, Pastor Troy, Tony Sims, Jazze Pha all do 2, and Dada & Vagez, Big Floaty, Church Boi, Carl Mo all do 1. Still a good album to have if you're a fan but not his best work.

3 out of 5 stars +1/2 -- Late-60s folk trio turns to highly produced pop.......2007-04-25

Though American listeners will remember "One Tin Soldier" as a one-hit wonder by Coven, this Canadian quintet actually struck one-hit-wonder gold first, charting the same song at #34 in 1970. Amazingly, Coven, with the help of the song's placement in the film "The Legend of Billy Jack," ran their version of the song up to #26 the following year. The two renditions feature similar drums-and-horns arrangements, with the Coven version just a touch faster. Even more amazingly, the Coven version cracked the top-100 for a second time in 1973 and for a third time in 1974! So, two one-hit wonder bands, one song, four chart entries!

The Original Caste started out as a folk trio, The North Country Singers, changing their name when they signed with Bell and shifting their towards more highly produced pop. This 1969 debut album sold well in their native Canada, and reached #34 in the U.S. The Abba-esque single "Mr. Monday" flopped in the States, but found success in Canada and Japan. A few of the songs bring to mind hybrid folk-pop acts like Brewer & Shipley and Sweetwater, and there are fleeting blues and soul references. But Dixie Lee James sunshine-pop vocals, the multipart backing harmonies and tight horn charts give this a dynamic pop finish verging on hippie show tunes (think cool plays like "Hair" and "Godspell"). 3-1/2 stars, if allowed fractional ratings. 4 out of 5 stars Japanese reissue.......2006-09-14

Interesting 1970 album by the Canadian folk-rock group, The Original Caste, whose lead singer's voice at times recalls a young Linda Ronstadt. Curiously, the title track, One Tin Soldier, was the only Hot 100 entry for not one but two "one-hit wonders", this group and Coven (2 years later). A word of warning, though - those thinking about replacing their old 45 or LP should be aware that the Japanese reissue (Unversal UICY-1303) appears to be dubbed from a (good) vinyl copy of the album.

5 out of 5 stars Amazon's information about this CD is WRONG!.......2005-12-12

This CD is a re-issue (with some additional newer material) of a 1969 LP by the group The Original Caste. They were the first to record the song "One Tin Soldier" and had a hit with it on the charts (several years before the band Coven sang it on the soundtrack for the movie Billy Jack and it charted again!). This CD is NOT, I repeat, NOT an original cast recording of any show, as Amazon has it listed. Again, the name of the band is The Original Caste (with an "e" at the end; check the album cover!)

what's the name of the song when Luke enters the streaptese bar?...i think i heard something.. like " Come on get it on" or some like dat..das anyone know the name?

4 out of 5 stars Freakin' Awesome!!!!.......1999-08-09

With bands like Gwar, Fear Factory, and Static-X, could you get any better? Well, I supposed you could if you dropped Megadeth and Anthrax! But it is still a very awesome soundtrack. I give it 4 stars!!

3 out of 5 stars so so soundtrack for a seemingly horrible movie.......1999-08-04

Ok, I'm gonna be honest. I usually like soundtracks. More specifically, I usually like soundtracks with heavy metal bands on them. So, so far, this album still has 5 stars. The lineup is good, with quality songs by Gwar, Static X, Fear Factory, and some others. Wait, wait a minute, there's a Megadeth song. That just made it lose a star. Four stars now. Wait, wait, it's that horrible "Crush Em" song too. The title should be "Flush Em", obviously referring with what we should do to Dave Mustaine. Three stars now, partly because WCW is bad and WWF rules. Ok, so just like I said, there still are some killer bands here. What is bad though, is that these aren't new songs. I have just about all of these cd's, and all the ones I have rule, especially Static X and Fear Factory. I like new music on soundtracks, or else, there's nothing to motivate me to buy it. 2 stars now. They did however, include the best Gwar song ever, and a damn fine Static X song, so I'll give a star back. 3 stars, that's what I'm sticking with. Lucky for this soundtrack Goldberg didn't do any music or this would've gotten a much worse score, seeing as how his new entrance music is that horrible Megadeth song you'll find here. I say steer clear of this and go buy the Strangeland soundtrack, or one of the releases by the bands here, and that way, you'll still get their song.

5 out of 5 stars AWSOME SOUNDTRACK.......1999-07-25

This is a must have CD for any WCW fan, seeing how Megadeath's "Crush 'Em" is on it, and that is Goldberg's new song

5 out of 5 stars Amazing Soundtrack, Heavy Bands & Heavy Sounds.......1999-07-14

Tons of great rock bands. Some old and some new. All the tracks are great. Worth buying for Megadeth alone let alone Anthrax, Ministry, Fear Factory, Static X and Gwar. Great record! I can't wait to see the movie.

4 out of 5 stars Heavy texture, orchestral avant-garde.......2002-01-24

"Universal Soldier" is the first full-fledged soundtrack release of Christopher Franke, dating from 1992. Chronologically though, "New Music for Films Vol.1" should be considered first, since it contains film music material from 1989-1990. Universal Soldier continues the darker moods explored on "New Music for Films", with a very heavy orchestral texture. Being a score for an action flick with Claude van Damme, the movie with enormous emphasis on suspense, this album delivers what is expected. Hard to listen to at moments, it does not constitute a significant item in Franke's musical heritage, but still, for those who like electronica and orchestra playing together, it is worth having in a CD collection.

The album starts with 'Vietnam Jungle', a blast of orchestral forte, to set the mood for the whole album. 'The Explosion' is a short number taking us back to 1990's "New Music for Films" collection. 'Unisols on Fire' is a dark cantata with a sophisticated orchestral rhythm, hinting at Franke's penchant for compositional complexity, which will be displayed in full form and class in "Babylon 5" series of 1995-2000. It's also interesting to note that the symphonic passages from 'Unisols on Fire' constitute the starting point for 1995's soundtrack of Christopher Franke, "Night of the Running Man". 'McGregor' is a miniature, which might be just as well recorded by Preisner, if it occurred to him to use full orchestra. The track is quite scary, with a more than usual element of chaos thrown in. 'Grand Canyon' continues the mood, which progressively turns to be more and more avantgarde. The tracks, 'I'm Already Dead' and 'Going Home' are slightly lighter mood-breaks, adjusted to the slower scenes from the film, but only just a tad lighter. Increasingly chaotic avant-garde compositions 'The Fight' and 'Back From Dead' must have provided an excellent background for breath-taking scenes from the movie, but as standalone compositions they are quite leaded, requiring maximum concentration from the listener.

The remaining tracks continue to deliver the variations on a theme. In fact, it's hard to distinguish one from another. It's best to think of "Universal Soldier" as one long suite, broken into pieces for the filmmaking purposes. The album lacks a leading motif, which is my only peeve. It's an ideal when it comes to the encyclopedic definition of a film score, it's interesting and well-performed, but it is also hard to justify as a standalone album. If you liked the film and its music while watching the film, don't hesitate. If you are new to Christopher Franke, I'd rather recommend "Babylon 5", which is also orchestral, but infinitely superior to this release. Finally, if you have tried Franke on his own, or are a Tangerine Dream wandering fan (there are many of us after 1991), consider this album seriously, but only after you try Franke's flagship albums like "The London Concert", "Babylon 5", or "New Music for Films Vol.1".

4 out of 5 stars Hard hitting synth action score.......2003-02-23

Usually when film scores are all synthesized and no orchestra is featured, the result usually is on the negative side, such as Don Davis' score to Ballistic: Ecks VS. Sever. This is not true with Universal Soldier: The Return. This score does sound like an orchestra was used in parts, but mainly you can tell that synthesizers are in command. "Target: Devereaux" is the main theme with a propulsive and driving rhythm, accompanied by pounding synth percussion and bells. "Jet Ski Spree" and "Unisol Assault" are 2 of the weaker tracks with heavy electric guitar licks played over heavy synth pads, which tend to give you a headache. "Hillary Remembers" gives us a break from all the hard hitting action music that is found everywhere else in the score with a gentle piano played over synthesized strings. The remainder of the music is of the action variety with heavy, driving percussive rhythms and forward thrusting synths. This score would have sounded much better had an orchestra of been used, but the synths did make it work. This is one of the better synth led scores i've heard in a while.

    5 out of 5 stars A all-out Unisol war for your ears!.......2000-08-26

When I bought this movie on video not too long ago and discovered that a lot of heavy metal songs underscore the fighting, I didn't think there would be all that much of a score. My first full listen of this CD proved me wrong!

I'm just guessing here, but the tracks on this CD which contain a lot of guitar riffs sound like they are meant to come before or after a song by a metal band (i.e. "Jet Ski Spree" or "Unisol Assault") I'll have to watch the movie again to see how correct that assumption is, but otherwise, the score CD really keeps your adrenaline running and your imagination churning!

4 out of 5 stars Really cool tracks.......2000-07-02

The movie opens with a really cool metal song. And has a fine collection of hard rock songs.. Just the right kind of music to be related with the intense aggression of the movie itself! The scenes are intensified more with the tracks.. the more the noise.. the more the excitement!
