Classic gangsta hip hop........2007-07-05

This is where it all began for Dr. Dre and Ice Cube. This album was pretty much what catapulted their careers into the future of Hip Hop music. This album was a right up in your face in every aspect. Dealing with everything from gang violence, the drug problem to the injustice's of law enforcement officials. This is a true Hip Hop classic to have in one's archives, especially if you came through that era.

Hot as fire... this one kicks butt! OG Gangsta' rap hard and out cold........2007-06-14

Humorous at times, angry and furious, silly, somphmoric, and strong. These words all fit, yet only begin to describe this work. It is vulgar, it is politically incorrect, it is violent, and it is damn catchy. Infectious hooks, actualy. Why all the negative hype about this one? Because it was put out with no apologies or loosening of it's non stop stranglehold grip on the listener. Great to work out to. These artists, who are very talented, took hip hop to another level, and in so doing expressed their rage, pain, fears and insecurities about life in the inner city. Remarkable indeed, though inappropriate for kids due to the immense and pervasive swearing and glamourizing of murder. It is what it iz. 5 stars for the hooks, and the artists integrity, plus this cd scared the heck out of mainstream white America and the LA police, not to mention the Feds. In NWA's defense: the truth of all of the history of this country, good and bad, from slaughtering the Indians, to the present state of our urban inner cities and prisons are all evidence of the continuation and crisis proportions of racism and a racist prevailing social climate.

You can not understate how good this album really is. It changed hip hop forever, it brought so much aggression and intensity to the listener that you can not help but get hooked. Ice Cube, the angry and politically charged MC, Eazy E, the boy from tha hood, MC Ren, the slick and ruthless MC, Dr. Dre, the deep toned MC and slick producer and DJ Yella, the beat banger, are the foundation for gangsta rap, comin Straight Outta Compton!

Straight Outta Compton is one of the few cd's that changed the way I feel about rap, the cd from start to finish is very good. I listen to Hardcore and other music that is loud and heavy, but there is something about this that I just love!!! buy the cd and you won't regret it!!!

Bullet holes in the head of the music industry.......2007-04-28

I can only think of a few albums that have really had a major impact on my life. Straight Outta Compton has got to be right at the top of the list. As a young teen I bought the cassette and wore that thing out in my walkman.
I was immediately drawn to the bada** beats and catchy rhythms. Just the raw sound of the bass drum hitting hard will energize anyone listening. The voices of rap legends Ice Cube, Eazy-E, and MC Wren harmoniously unite with the smooth and powerful sounds generated by Dr. Dre and Yella Boy.
But the real hypnotic power of these songs is infused in the lyrics. These guys rap about their tough circumstances growing up in Compton, an extremely dangerous and crime-ridden city in California. As their words depict the harsh times they constantly endured, the listener is pulled in to a world they might be unfamiliar with. I know I was clueless.
I'm not sure if it's done intentionally, but they really romanticize the ghetto life. They glamorize the gangster attitude. I found an overwhelming appeal to this.
I am no longer much of a rap fan since the N.W.A. days. But I'll always remember the spirit that encompasses this masterpiece.

Explicit lyrics AND Clean Version- contradiction in terms??.......2006-01-23

This cassette was SO popular when it came out- I remember little seven and eight year old kids jamming to it in the Cabrini Green projects of Chicago- they knew every word by heart. They never heard of the "Clean" version. By the way, isn't the label "explicit lyrics" and "Clean version" a contradiction in terms?? How can an album be both at the same time??? Also, how come no one talks about Easy-E dying from AIDS? I guess that is still a taboo subject. Anyway, this album is a precious historical document- and it was a trailblazing expression of the frustrations of Amerikkka's black urban underclass at the time (mid-1980's). Unfortunately, it is also a very SEXIST album that tends to treat all women as HO's. I guess you can't have everything. Public Enemy also came out at about the same time and they were a lot more sophisticated lyrically without the sexist crap.

CLASSIC beginning to Gangsta Rap from Compton.......2005-11-26

Take you back to 1988 when hip-hop was almost entirely a NY element. Then comes in the vulgar, dirty and harsh lyrics and world of 4 young men from Compton, who changed the way rap music went from this point forward. Very controversial and something new, you knew this would create some buzz, and the Parental Advisory sticker became almost commonplace on rap album because of this album. With the controversy you knew would come sales, as this sold over 2 million copies (probably much more by now) and brought the street to the suburbs and country side. With 13 songs, 3 are classic, 3 are almost classics, 1 I skip, 1 is ok and the other 5 are good or great songs. Eazy E, Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and MC Ren (with some production help form Yella and songwriting by the D.O.C.) they bring the first great street rap album alive. As I said Yella with Dr. Dre bring some great production for a 1988 album. A must have gangsta rap album for everyone to own.

One of the best.......2005-11-25

Now I'm not a big rap fan anymore but I still love old west coast rap. Ice cube,Eazy E, Dr. Dre,2pac, and others I still hear. This album I still love because it's so original. Straight outa comptian, 8 ball, express yo'self ,man that's real rap for you. Now rap is all about people who pretend to be gangstas like ja rule,and jay z. Some rappers I like today like 50 cent and I still give it to snoop dogg. But this is the crown jewel, of the west coast rap scene.

STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON AND INTO OUR LIVING ROOMS.......2005-07-13

This might not have been the very first Gangsta Rap album, but with the rage in Ice Cube's voice and the premium production of Dr. Dre this is the album that set the stage for mainstream Gangsta Rap even without the help of radio or MTV. An acronym for Niggaz With Attitude these guys packed all of the attitude of Compton into this disc. With MC Ren and Ice Cube spitting in your face street lyrics like a p***ed off Chuck D anyone who heard this couldn't dodge the impact of the subject matter. "F*** The Police", which of course warranted the imfamous letter from the F.B.I., was a dose of shocking realism at the time as was the rest of the album. Eazy E adds the Flavor Flav quasi-comic relief making this an all around entertaining album. DJ Yella assists Dre with the beats coming together with Bomb Squad's hardcore sonic influences and adding some West Coast flavor to them. As noted at the beginning of this review N.W.A. were not the first Gangsta Rappers, but as is often the case in music it's the ones who perfect the genre that get the recognition rather than the innovators. And perfect Gangsta Rap is exactly what N.W.A. does with STRAIGHT OUTTA COMPTON.

This is not the first version, it's an anniversary to the success of the original version.
I rate it 4 stars because the rappers in this "compilation" are really known:

No compilation will ever live up to the original...the original was the best rap CD ever produced IMHO. If you think you'll like this CD because you just want to listen to a different flavor of the original tracks then it may be worthwhile to check out. Otherwise, there is absolutely no comparison. The original has straight genuine attitude which stamped it as one of the best albums in music history. This one tries...

If you have listened to the original cd you will find this one to be terrible. It can never be as good as the original. Also Snoop Dogg screwes up in Gangsta Gangsta

The original is better.......2000-05-21

This cd is pretty good, but NWA's original version is a lot better. The 3 remakes on here that were really good are "I Ain't Tha 1" by Mister Mike, "Dopeman" by Mack 10, and "Quiet On Tha Set" by the Terror Squad. Snoop and C-Murder's version of "Gangsta Gangsta" was pretty tight too. Check it out!

Some of the origanl NWA here, definitely sick cuts. NWA, being one of the filthier oldschool groups ended in Eazy's death. However they are back (with Snoop replacing Eazy) with their first new cut in many years on the Next Friday soundtrack.

nwa is as important as any other group in the rap genre.they took the first amendement and expressed how they felt.straight to the point.and ushered in a new style and attitude.with dre's production eazy's wit and cube's lyrics this group hit hard.they broke out solo careers.i miss eazy he was ahead of the rap business game not only running his own label ruthless records home to bone thugs-harmony but jump starting nwa among many.ice cube is doing the film thing and is still dropping records as are yello and ren.this group was like saturday night live they could do what ever they wanted and had no limits.thanks to eazy paving the way no group has since come along that has rivaled them.

OK first of all that song #$%@ the police is good but not great. Anyway this album is great! Every song is 5 stars. Oh and the album is fine without that song.

OMG! The biggest reason i bought this CD was because i thought it had history on it. That history was the song "**** Tha Police". But no, this CD doesn't have it. To get the real deal, get the unedited version. Peace.

This CD is an insult towards N.W.A it doesnt really have any major emcees (with the exception of Big Pun) i strongly reccomend not to buy this CD the only reason i boought it was i was going to buy the original but i was [not able] to tell which one was which and i picked the wrong one up. Sillk the shocker made an obismal effort on the classic track exspress yourself that was really a let down. i strongly advise you not to buy this CD you might as well go out and... listen to some snoop dogg. This Cd Is A big let down to all N.W.A fans. Instead of the orignal songs, the tight beats, and the lyrics that make you run for the hills, this cd is full of new age rap stars that think that because they can rap, they can copy the greastest rap group in history, N.W.A. What the hell is Big Pun is doing on this album? He's latin! What the hell does he know about Compton.
THIS ALBUM IS FULL OF RAPPERS WHO DON'T EVEN COME CLOSE TO THE LIKES OF DR.DRE, ICE CUBE, MC REN, AND EASY E.
