MC Eiht may not be known or have blown up like other west coast artists, but he as well as his group Compton's Most Wanted dropped some rememerable albums. One would be the 1994 album "We Come Strapped", a time when the west coast was about to blow up. As most reviewers said, this album has a laid back vibe towards it. Eiht spits some gangsta rhymes, as many fans would expect from him.

The first actual track doesn't start until track 3, "Def Wish III" when he disses DJ Quik over a laid back beat. The next track, "Take 2 With Me", I find very similar to it's previous, production wise (listen to them back to back and you'll see what I'm saying). Eiht lays down some good rhymes on that song as well as "****** Make The Hood Go Round" and the story telling "Goin' Out Like Geez". A couple of the best tracks are towards the end of the album. "Nuthin' But The Gangsta" features Redman and Spice 1 is one of the best tracks. The other best would be "Compton Bomb" with it's production by Ric Roc and DJ Slip.

As for anything bad, I would say that there are a few tracks I found forgettable. "Can I Still Kill It?" is one of them, because of it's production I wasn't feeling. Also, as Norfeest said, the album sounds like one long track. Mostly because everything sounds so similar production wise, causing lack of variety. Other than that, I recommend this album to fans of 90's rap music. With his buddy Chill locked up Mc Eiht with the help of DJ Slip help put together a quality album that is enjoyable. Peace!

Despite being part of one of the best groups to come out of the late 80's/early 90's, MC Eiht and CMW never seemed to get any national love. They dropped three straight classics and, despite having a nice little cult following, people still insisted upon sleeping on them. That all changed in '94. Fresh off the heels of blowing up (Eiht's "Streiht Up Menace" of the Menace II Society soundtrack was easily one of the best singles of '93), Eiht steps out on the solo tip to drop We Come Strapped. Well, not really. This album features CMW and the sound sticks pretty close to the CMW format (even though there are way more smooth joints on this album). All but one track is produced by Eiht and DJ Slip -- also known as the infamous 1/2 Oz. productions that you can hear Eiht shouting out on just about every song on the album. Ric Roc produces "Compton Bomb", but 1/2 Oz. even co produces that too.

There aren't many flaws on this album. Lyrically, Eiht isn't that strong. But you don't have to be lyrical to be a good gangsta rapper. All you need is passion and I think Eiht has plenty of that on this album. Also, though the beats are mellow, laid back, and funky, they don't really change pace that often. That makes most of the album sound like one long single. Also, "Compton Cyco", "We Come Strapped", and "Can I Still Kill It" all fell under skip material for this listener.

We Come Strapped is one of those albums that you can pop in the disc player and just let it ride. The lyrics are passionate and the production is laid back and funky. Though he would go on to drop more tight solo albums, I don't think he's topped this album yet. Despite one or two fillers, I recommend adding this album to your collection.

In response to another reviewer, CMW dropped THREE albums before this album came out.

In response to yet another reviewer, what album are you talking about? Method Man, Chill, and Yukmouth are NOWHERE to be found on this album.

Standout Tracks: Hard Times, Def Wish III, Nuttin' But High (Endolude), All For The Money, Ni***z Make The Hood Go Round, Nuttin' But The Gangsta feat. Spice 1 & Redman (My Favorite), Compton Bomb, and Take 2 With Me

5 out of 5 stars OFFICAL HIP-HOP REVIEWER.......2006-12-12

Hello there fello hip hop fans, im back once again to share some knowledge of hip-hop and to try bulk up your cd collection with nothing but brilliant classics so take sugar ray hill gang rappers delight of the rack and make room for some classic hardcore music.

first-thing-first, i am glad im writing this review now due to the fact that it puts my review above the review below me, im happy at this because im strongly affended to the persons review about mc eiht "WE COME STRAPPED" ALBUM" iv wrote several reviews now please feel free to have a look, (you might find another cd for the collection worth spending them hard earned bucks on). anyway like i was saying, the last review on this album was terrible.

now i am a massive "dj quik" fan and am the proud owner of his whole cd collection (they look great in ya cd rack) for those who may not know about the beef between the two unique compton rappers which the most probabley the biggiest beef since pac (R.I.P) and B.I.G. (R.I.P) and still me been such a big dj quik fan love and listen to "we come strapped" nearly every day. for those who also like CMW AKA comptons most wanted this cd is just what you need in your collection. for those who dont know who CMW are you may notice a song of "GRAND THEFT AUTO SAN ANDREAS" which was on the rap radio station (i forget what the stations call) the song was called "the hood took me under" if you like this song itz by Comptons most wanted "music to drive by" which has a review by me to tell you about the album. comptons most wanted lyrics are mostly rapped by mc eiht so if you like them you'll love this album. also if you have played G.T.A san andreas, you'll probably have a best character on the game, mine is ryder and if you like ryder then you'll be glad to know that his voice was done by MC EIHT.

If your a fan of the great film MENACE TO SOCIETY which is a great film about a blackman in WATTS in COMPTON, if you are a fan and have seen the film MC EIHT plays ICE PICK to refresh your memories. when old dog (the actor who played old dog has the same birthday and was born 10years before my self) "weird" and kane go find the guys who jacked kane and his cousin, as they drive to find these guys they are smoking a joint in the car with ice pick (MC EIHT) ice pick is also the guy who shoots the man who got away when they found the men at a hotdog stand with the great line in the film said by ice pick( as the guy who's been shoot severial times in the back by kane and old dog runs around the back of the hotdog stand into the car park to jump in his car and get away ice pick is also in the car park waiting for old dog and kane to get back and see's the man staggering to his car, ice pick walks over and says " hey homeboy, you need some help.. .. .. then pulls the gun from his trouser and pumps 3 or 4 bullets into the man who's now lying as dead as a tin of tuna on the floor).

now albums like iv said so many times before are the best when the artist hate's someone and tend's to bring it into his songs ie: Eazy e (R.I.P) " itz on dr dre 187um killa" Dj quik "Safe and sound" and "we come strapped" which realy does let rip on mr quik (itz always good to hear both sides)
if your a fan of dr dre's type of g-funk beats like "still dre" and most of the songs on "the cronic" (his album on death row records) not 2001, if you like that type of g-funk beats then you'll love this album, itz got that unique compton style plus mc eihts lyrics make the song come togher. time for the sum up of this album.

if your a fan of dr dre, and nwa then i think you'll like this album please remember that mc eiht has a much darkier style of rap but still has funky beats as well as hardcore beats. if your more into your Warren G and funky song then you may wanna listen to a few songs before buying. otherwise please trust me on this people and buy the cd. "just trust me you'll like it".

this is an old one mc eihts albums and was the first one he brought out on his seek for a solo carrer, but he still has C.M.W on the album.
this is by far the best MC EIHT album he has brought out and is a must have in the collection.

1 out of 5 stars Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..............2006-11-01

I remember reading about this album in Rolling Stone. It had 2 stickers on it. It had the usual "parental advisory" sticker (is there a rap album that doesn't) and another one saying "the lyrical content on this album strictly represents the views of the artist" (or words to that effect). The article's main point was asking "are albums going to get two labels now? What's next?". So, my "I hate censorship" side got all flustered, and I went out and bought it. It's a piece of s--t. The beats are boring, and all the lyrics seem to consist of is "my name MC Eiht. No one better mess with me". He pads this wonderfully original thought out to 70 minutes or so, and it gets incredibly tedious. Needless to say, the sticker "controversy" never erupted into anything beyond this album. I just ended buying a really boring album, and I immediately got rid of it.
