What the world needs now is The Fix--a brilliant hip-hop album with the soul of a blues record. Dirty South iconoclast Scarface has never been afraid to get deep; at this point a lot of his young-man wildness has been replaced by a mature understanding of life's cyclical nature. Lyrically complex and leaning heavily on somber chords, acoustic guitars, and scratchy soul samples, The Fix is not a light and bouncy throwaway album, but one that demands repeated listening. Nonetheless, this is also no crossover attempt--all you get is superior hip-hop, accented with a touch of R&B vocals courtesy of Kelly Price, Faith Evans, and Tanya Herron. Standout tracks include "In Between Us," featuring an impassioned star turn by guest MC Nas (Nasir Jones), the Kanye West-produced "In Cold Blood," and the gangsta lean "Sellout." But there's no question that "On My Block," an instant classic, is hands down the best cut. --Rebecca Levine

5 out of 5 stars A more tolerable commute.......2007-05-27

Ron White is hilarious; a great story teller. I commute in miserable traffic to Wash., DC and I need safe distractions. This is safe until I start cracking up. I can also listen to the cd a few times in a row and it just doesn't get old. If you appreciate "good old boy" humor, this one's for you. Very, very funny.

5 out of 5 stars Very funny.......2007-01-11

I love Ron White so obviously I would rate his CD high. It's great to listen to with friends or on a long car ride. Definitely not something you want children listening to because of the language and content.

5 out of 5 stars You Can't Fix Stupid.......2007-01-10

Ron White is always good, but this one stands out as an example of his sharp mind and cutting wit.

1 out of 5 stars Yes you can!!.......2006-11-20

You can fix it, stupid!! Stop drinking and smoking for one!! This proves that Hillbillies will laugh at anything. Listen to SMART comedy, peo-ple! Like Woody or baron Cohen!!

2 out of 5 stars Almost pornographic.......2006-08-14

I am a huge Ron White fan, so I hate to give it a low score - but this CD just seemed to me like he sunk to a new level. Almost every track on this CD is a crotch joke and/or relates to sex, and where I am definately not a prud - I felt a little sleazy for listening to it. I was very disappointed. I highly recommend his previous CD "Drunk In Public" instead.

5 out of 5 stars Coldplay Does It Again.......2005-12-17

Coldplay Has Another AMAZING SINGLE. Fix You is a great song starting with Chris and his piano. Soon the rest of the band kicks in and rocks the rest of the song.
THE WORLD TURNED UPSIDE DOWN: This song is the highlight of the b-sides and starts off with the words X and Y. From there the song gets better.
POUR ME: ANother good song from Coldplay that is heavy. This song would be better not live.

3 out of 5 stars An alright single.......2005-12-03

You've probably heard "Fix You" by now so I won't spend any time commenting on it. I would like to give my own 2cents on the B-sides. I don't agree with the other reviewers here that "The World Turned Upside Down" should've made it onto X&Y. It sounds great until the chorus comes in. At that point it goes from being great to barely mediocre. It's like they put in the first chorus that came to mind instead of coming up with something catchy and original. They succeeded in doing this on X&Y and that's why this song is a b-side and not on the album. "Pour Me" is an alright track but nothing to write home about. It's also live so that takes away from the quality of the recording. Hope this review helps. BTW if you're looking for a good b-side, pick up the single for "Speed of Sound" because "Things I Don't Understand" is an excellent b-side and almost DID make it onto the album.

4 out of 5 stars Second single from "X&Y" has great B-sides.......2005-10-23

"Fix Me" is the second single from Coldplay's "X&Y" album. Anyone that has seen Coldplay on their recently completed US tour, knows that "Fix Me" is the final song of the evening, and a very appropriate, almost cathartic, send-off.

"Fix Me" (3 tracks, 14 min., plus 1 video) also contains great B sides. "The World Turned Upside Down" is another solid "dramatic" song that for some reason is included only on the Japanese version of "X&Y", but really should have been included in all international versions of the album, as it starts of with the verse "X and Y, the land, see, rivers, trees, the stars, the sky" and thus in a sense is the title track of the album. "Pour Me" is another song from the "X&Y" sessions, brought here in a live version from Coldplay's show at the Hollywood Bowl earlier this year. Finally, pop the CD into your PC and you can play the video of "Fix Me".

Coldplay is one of the few bands (Oasis being another one) that releases singles that are worth seeking out for the B sides. "Fix Me" is another great example of that. Recommended for Coldplay completists.

3 out of 5 stars Fixed Down.......2005-10-22

When it actually comes to great songs from the pop scene right now, there always is a act that can make good tracks, but can awkwardly have a mixed bag in one as well. Coldplay has been one of those acts that have made some great strides in some of the most solid tracks out there in the scene the past few years. Their latest single is that example. Fix You, the second track from their record X&Y is a more somber, but somehow a slightly fair song. It actually isn't one of their best songs, but it isn't a bad song at all. Although the track doesn't measure up like Speed Of Sound did, it still is worth glancing at for any Coldplay fan.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent EP.......2005-10-08

This EP is absolutely fantastic. It really annoys me that most people have heard "Speed of Sound" (best song on X & Y), but haven't heard "Fix You".
"The World Turned Upside Down" is the highlight of the b-sides. This song should have been put on X & Y. "Poor Me" is also pretty good. "Fix You- Live" is excellent. The timing of the blast once the drums come in is a few milliseconds late, but other than that, it's fantastic.
It's cheaper to buy this EP on iTunes ($3), and benefits go to the American Red Cross.

1 out of 5 stars Why is this lumped in with metal.......2007-07-15

I feel like necro is a stooge for metal. Hatebreed and who ever else wants to associate themselves with Necro probably do it as a goof to place theyre sound into the rap realm in a not to serious way. I don't hear anythihng relevant to metal with Necro. It's pure straight up rap. People mention the beats but, so what? Dr. Dre blows this poser away when Dre did Natural born killers. What the hell is so special about sampling music from a computer program anyway? literally takes no skill that any idiot can do. Playing an instrument takes skill which is something necro doesnt come close to doing.
As far as the necro sound, All Necro does is throw in some metal names and evil theme's into his raps but otherwise there isn't any creative union with metal. I can't imagine any metal guitarist wanting to do live riffs with necro. I saw them in the sounds of the underground tour and they only thing they succeeded on doing was getting most fans to go on a 45 minute lunch and bathroom break during their set. Sure there were a handfull of necro fans that were doing a stupid pit (one of the most pathetically small one's you will every see with Necro chanting "pit Pit"). The rest of the fan's that could stomach watching them were yelling to get off the F'n stage.

5 out of 5 stars THE Best.......2006-10-25

as a guy who listens to G-Unit, Jay-Z, Xzibit, Jermaine Dupri, etc....
i enjoy this album alot.
i like the complex lyrics, the issues they talk about [suicide, gore and such].
Necro is an extreme rapper, and he does the job right.

4 out of 5 stars TOO HARDCORE FOR COMMERCIAL HEADS.......2006-03-08

First off this cd aint for commercial heads, this cd is very well produced and will apply to anyone whit a open mind. The lyrical contents are morbid of course (its necro what do you think!) and well structured. A beautiful mix of metal whit hip hop a very good blend, picture old school metalica whit bones thugz rapping over the riffs. This basicly what it is a very strong production that will keep banging this record for years to come. I recommend this cd to anyone who wants to piss off people whit its content or just listen to something different and not the same repeative , lame crap u hear on the radio or tv. Ill put this way the contant of this cd is like slayer only more colorful and more porn stuff , if ya like porn, 86 measure of the game keep u happy , if ya like hardcore rap this is for u.

1 out of 5 stars .................2006-01-14

Uhhhh..... This is music? Reminds me of a bad horror movie with no plot or point, just gallons and gallons of fake blood. Who writes this guys rhymes? You know I don't even care, what I'm more worried about is who the hxll buys enough of this guys cd's to warrant the 3 or 4 albums he has out? Do me a favor everyone, instead of buying Necro's Cd's lets all pitch in and help this poor white boy go out and find him a job. Remember, if we keep feeding him he'll never go home.

HBO's pioneering series takes the dark carnival gambit of Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes, drops it in the bleak heartland of Dust Bowl-era America and jolts it with a compelling undercurrent of Biblical apocalypse. That's no easy dramatic flux to musically evoke, but veteran TV composer Jeff Beal graces the show with cues that seamlessly fuse Appalachian folk traditions with a brooding, goth-inspired ambient gloom. The anxious solo fiddle of the show's theme is a repeating motif, one the composer uses to variously evoke melancholy ("Dora Mae's Funeral"), bittersweet romance ("Rita Sue and Jonesy") or supernatural wonders ("Ben Heals the Girl"). Beal's use of mournful solo horn (as on "Mark of the Beast") often heralds the show's undercurrent of Biblical doom, while his hesitant, haunting piano passages seem to hang in the air for eternity. The evocative cues here stand in stark contrast to the oft-quirky jazz cool of the composer's Emmy-winning work on Monk, ample tribute to Beal's masterful abilities to channel his musical instincts into even the most diverse dramatic material. --Jerry McCulley

the tone for the shows music was created by wendy melvoin & lisa coleman...the theme they created is the best part of this cd. too bad more of the original music from the first season wasn't included in this compilation. also, just a correction to a previous post; the people who designed the main titles won the emmy, the jeff beal.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Supposedly 'Face's last studio album - goes off on a high note.......2006-11-05

Mr. Scarface is undoubtedly a legend in the hip-hop community. While some artists get that unwarranted title of legendary simply because of their misfortune, or notoriety, Scarface developed that title the old-fashioned way; he earned it. With over a dime and a nickle in the game, Scarface, commercial success be dammed, will go down as one of the most influential emcees to ever pick up a microphone, and with good reason.

Not only is Scarface one of the most vivid storytellers in the game, but he basically crafted an entire sub-genre of hip-hop; and that would be the music coming from his native land of Houston. There isn't a single emcee coming out of Houston who hasn't been inspired by Scarface's bass-loaded voice, and slow funk grooves; from Chamillionaire, to Z-Ro, to Paul Wall, they all owe a large number of success to the don of Southern hip-hop.

While, in the past, and even now, most people recognize Southern emcees are lyrically inclined, Scarface took that stereotype, and shattered it into pieces each time he stepped in the booth, and even now, continues to on guest appearances. This is supposedly Scarface's last true album, as he's retired from active emceeing, and he goes off on quite a high note with his Def Jam debut(and, I guess, sole Def Jam release), The Fix.

While this album isn't quite consistant enough to warrant the classic title, at least for a 'Face album, it is very solid. One thing that could've pushed this album to the top is better production; some of the tracks are beautiful musically(such as the Kanye West offerings, and In Between Us), while others are only slightly above-average, and sometimes, merely average. Scarface brings the heat, but he's not up to his typical standards; there's no "I Seen A Man Die" on here, and though he may try to replicate his classic tracks of the past, he doesn't quite achieve this goal.

Other places, the music is just too awkward to get as involved into it as you should. In Between Us has a two-minute bridge in between 'Face and Nas' verses, and it's frustrating to ask exactly why they did this to a track that could've been a classic collaboration. The track with Beanie and Jay is odd, too - mainly because it's far more Rocafella than it is Scarface, and if I want Rocafella, I'll throw on one of Hov's albums.

Besides the few shortcomings, in the end, this is an album worth owning, especially as it's the last offering from one of hip-hop's true legends. The Fix may not be classic, but this album, and his previous ones will no doubt inspire young emcees to create classic albums in its wake; and that influence that Scarface carries is like few other.

5 out of 5 stars Hasn't lost his touch.......2006-10-10

When this album first came out I was really skeptical upon buying it. I liked the 12 inch (My Block) but wasn't sure that the rest of the LP could be as good. I was so wrong. The lead single was one of the weaker songs found on this. I loved every second of this record. If you're also a huge fan of Scarface you gotta have this. It won't even let you down if your picky about his music and feel like only a few of his LPs were hot. Believe me when you read this that you have to have this in your collection its an essential. Peace!

5 out of 5 stars Face Mob is the man and he proves it yet again.......2006-07-31

Im not going to lie i hate most of the stuff that comes out of the south, with a few excipions(no disrespect). Face has been in the game for over a decade now, and from the sounds of it he still has some gas in the tank. This was the best album that came out in 2002. Haild by critics as a more mature scarface whith amazing producion(Kanye West, Nashiem Myrick, Neptunes, and countless others i never herd of) and equally amazing lyricism. As the real king of the south, Scarface does a good job of keeping it real with gangster tracks such as Safe, Sellout, Hold Me Down and I Aint The One. The true gift Face Mob gives to the listner is the emoitional tracks. I never knew a rap song could move me like What Can I Do he toches on so many sudjects like a kid being born and at the same time a kid geting killed by his parents now thats deep you have to here it. There is also the Nas track, the heart felt In Between Us, its hard to say who is better on this amazing song, but i think Nas out shines Face just a little bit. With the mix tape burner, the best Kanye West songs, Guess Who's Back its a rap, you have one of the most compleat albums i ever herd. Solid cameos dont hurt ether (Jay-Z, Nas, Beanie Sigal,Kelly Price and countless others). Where's the grammy at.

Scarface been holdin' it down 4 da Souf & reppin' H-Town 4 a minute.

Everybody knows lyrically he's in that line of All-Time Greats with 'Pac, Biggie, Nas, Jay-Hov, Rakim and KRS-One.

4 da most part any and all of 'Face's solo albums are cold (he's what made The Geto Boyz as hard-hitting as they were when they first came out).

This is my personal favorite 'Face solo album 4 2 reasons:

"On My Block" which was an oustandingly vivid track with a sick video.

"In Between Us", the track he did wit my boy Nas.

Lyrically, this is the best union since TuPac & 'Face did "Smile" back in tha day.

Highly recommended artist & recommended LP.

5 out of 5 stars V-DoE aka The Analyzer.......2005-10-23

To give this album any less than a 4.5 would be an insult to the King (the original King of the South that is). The whole album is nothing but deep issues that are occuring everyday. This has got to be Face best album....next to Untouchable that is. Every track has a differnt message. You can literally listen to this whole album all they way through. If you've never listened to Scarface then you might not understand what he's preaching....but if you've been down since day one.....then you must have this album in your collection. Standout tracks includes #4 Guess Who's Back feat. Jay-Z, and Beanie Siegel, #5 On My Block, #7 What Can I Do feat. Kelly Price (beautiful song), #8 In Between Us feat. Nas, #9 Someday feat Faith Evans, #11 Heaven feat. Kelly Price (another beautiful track). Even the intro and outro are hard. So that's 8 tracks already out of 13. Nuff said!

I had the privilege of seeing her perform last year in Woodstock at Levon Helm's Midnight Ramble and was blown away by her and her Brooklyn based band (The Bennett Brothers). This CD moves you through a myriad of emotions and is well presented by recording engineer and producer Vicki Bell, who co-writes many of the selections and appears in the line up of back up singers as well. The musicianship is superb, and along with some very tasty engineer techniques makes this a must for your music library. As Alexis say's "There is something for everyone here", from the very soulful blues of "Never", the fast moving "Ride-Ride" and the pop sounding "More To This" (one of my favorites!), and don't miss "Da Hood". It is hard to categorize Alexis and this CD into a specific style of music, you will just have to listen and judge for yourself. You will come away smiling and feeling very satisfied.

5 out of 5 stars Really superb in every way.............2007-05-04

I first heard of Marianas Trench via Much Music with their song "Decided to Break It", and I was extremely impressed by the vocal flare the band exhibited(the video is also hilarious), and I figured I'd better investigate further. That took me to their video for "Say Anything", the first single off their debut album, "Fix Me"(604 records). Being fairly impressed by the material I'd heard, I decided to go out and buy the album. Immediately I felt the connection(which is somewhat rare for me, it usually takes a few listens). And though admittedly this music has strong casual appeal and that simple fact may scare some off(I don't know why), I find it impressive how it stands out among the current pop/punk/rock/emo scene.

Firstly, the production is top notch, super high quality in every way. But not fake, these guys are known for their tight live act. This band wasn't glued together by a bunch of record execs, it was relentlessness. There are some entertainers who make music to expand their "brand", and while Marianas Trench intentionally makes music that will appeal to a wide audience, it's all work they believe in. There is such a thing as sticking to your creative ambition while at the same time, allowing for flexibility; Fix Me proves it. And the music was recorded purely based off of the talent of the band, not software tools. Says Josh Ramsay: ""We didn't do an ounce of that on the record." It's all actual performances; it hasn't been doctored whatsoever. I think that's a big truth about us that not a lot of other bands can say these days." And it's the truth, it's hard to be enthusiastic about a band that you know you just couldn't enjoy live, because they suck without software manipulation.

The entire band is comprised of professional vocalists, as shown in their wicked harmonies. Lead vox' Josh Ramsay pours heartfelt, tortured passion into every lyric in songs like "Alibis" and "Skin & Bones", while Matt Webb joins in for a little fancy vocal matching in "Decided to Break It." There are layers and layers in the production of this record, it isn't sparse or stale like so many other records. But perhaps the greatest thing about Fix Me is that it so successfully combines all the flare of pop and hard rock. Hooks all over the place, almost every song could be a radio success. Not one track here is lacking, it's pure quality musicianship.

Whether you're into "emo", or any pop punk bands in general, you should dig Marianas Trench. If you like rock, I think you'll enjoy this quite a bit. And yeah, the import price is high, but it's worth it if you are really itching to adopt a new band into your catalogue.

Really impressed, better than I could have expected, even after a couple months of listening(I play it almost every day and I'm not tired of it).

Marianas Trench will take over the WORLD!

5 out of 5 stars A Morality Play for the 21st Century.......2002-12-29

I had the privilege of hearing this in it's first incarnation, when it was originally being written. John Dempsey is a brilliant lyricist, a wit and talent for the stage. Dana Rowe's music is challenging and modern. This has changed a bit since I first read the book and heard the music. The Ballad of Bobby "Cracker" Barrell is still my favorite. This is a must have for any theater buff. A must have for any musician with a discriminating palate.

5 out of 5 stars An unbelievable musical!.......2002-05-26

When I bought this CD, I knew nothing about it. I had heard the shortened version of "1, 2, 3" on the Hey, Mr Producer! video. I knew that John Barrowman (drool...) was in it, and that Philip Quast was, too (after hearing him as Javert in Les Miz, I fell in love with his voice),so I figured I should give it a try, why not? Well, I fell in love with it the 1st time I heard it! Don't be turned off by the fact that its about politics-- I have absolutely no interest in politics whatsoever, and I still love it. John Barrowman is Cal, a drug-addicted, unmotivated slacker who is forced by his power hungry mother to enter the world of politics. Barrowman has a gorgeous voice and puts lots of emotion into all his songs. Not bad looking either!! And Philip... he plays Grahame, Cal's cynical, crippled uncle who happens to have a slight crush on Cal. I love all the songs- especially 1,2,3, Cal's opening number which expresses his philosophy of life, America's Son, in which Cal is taught all he needs to know about politics, and First Came Mercy, where Grahame tells of his life as a cripple. The whole score is very fast and edgy-like nothing else I've ever heard before. I mean, have you ever heard a musical before where half the time, the main character is tripping on acid? You should get this CD. Trust me you'll love it!

3 out of 5 stars Love it, but hate it too.......2001-06-26

The Fix is a pretty above-average musical of late, with its catchy/varied songs and its all-too accurate themes of politics. However, the entire thing is depressingly cynical, unbelievably cynical, and even though the tragedies of Cal and his manipulating Uncle grip you, there is no alternative offered, and no redemption for any of the characters in the play. I listened to it a bunch at first, and eventually had to shelf it- too many problems revealed, not a single one reconciled.

5 out of 5 stars Original, Innovative and Amazing!.......2000-09-20

Like others before me I bought this CD out of curiousity having heard the song "One, Two,Three" on the Cameron Mackintosh tribute show.

Imagine a combination of Tommy and Chicago with some quite amazing vocal performances. John Barrowman, Philip Quast and Kathryn Evans stand out particularly. The storyline was strong, the music inspiring, the performances faultless. I was left with a burning desire to see the show in the flesh as it were.

I would definitely recommend this CD. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Who said politics are boring.......2000-08-10

Some of the best musicals I've ever heard are the ones that dare to tackle intense subject matter. The Musicals of Kander and Ebb come to mind, as do specific titles by the incomparable Sondheim. Well here comes the next new collaboration. John Dempsey and Dana P Rowe. The two made a bizarre start with their cult musical "Zombie Prom" Off-Broadway, and who just made it big in London with "The Witches of Eastwick." But here is where the began to make their name. They wrote "The Fix" A Smart, risque, and aggressive poilitcal satire. Which boasts an electric score and lyrics that were written to shock surprise and encourage genuine emotion in all it's forms. "The Fix" Is truly an original in every shape way and form. With characters that musicals have never dared to portray. Same goes with the story.

The story goes like this.

The nation is in mourning for the death of potential president Reed Chandler. And his family...? Well they're less than ecstatic, considering he died between the legs of his mistress. Well Reed's power-mad wife Violet has announced, "If I can't be the wife of the President, you can bet your ass, I'll be his mother." By that she's referring to her unambitious, drug addicted son Cal. Violet beckons and ultimately forces her Polio-stricken brother-in-law Graham to train him in the ways of political ethics, and nurture him all the way to the white house.
But what they discover is that the road between here and there is a bumpy one.

this production was directed by "American Beauty" Oscar winning director Sam Mendes, and it shows. Mendes possesses the prowess of shocking the audience, and for making the actors go beyond the bounds of duty. John Barrowman's portrayal of Cal. Is truly gripping and his singing voice is incredible. No one else could ever sing the song "One, Two, Three" like Barrowman can. Next there's Philip Quast's overly sympathetic performance as Graham. He makes you absolutely pity him in the back-to-back songs "Two Guys at Harvard" and "First Came Mercy." then there's the third pivotal player Kathryn Evans as the megalomaniacal widow Violet. You see her character go through some savage turbulence in the course of events. You practically see her at her worst in the song "Spin" when she's drunk and delirious.

The Fix is another musical I feel deserves more attention that it has recieved. One of those that dares to be different. And if you wanna hear what I'm talking about BUY THIS CD!

Olivia Tremor Control's Bill Doss takes the revivalist term "sunshine pop" literally on this side project. A semi-concept album on which a general love of life carries Doss over sections he can't jam the solar motif into, Age of the Sun doubles as a show-offy pastiche of bright-eyed '60s sounds that recalls Sagittarius here, the Ogden's-era Small Faces there. The latter influence, augmented by some Revolver-style bass work, toughens (if that's the word) the sound a bit; as often as not, we're a decisive step or two away from "Green Tambourine" land. Doss even offers a couple of acoustic-based tracks that are more '71 than Summer of Love. Still, there's no shortage of Mellotron, treated piano, toy instruments, fuzz guitar, tape effects, and layers of vocal harmonies. Sincerity and knowingness sit together here, with earnestness winning the day and a mischievous 20-minute voice loop ending it. Age is ultimately a diversion rather than a masterpiece, but those who like it will like it a lot. --Rickey Wright

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars To anybody who says this is a lesser form of the Beatles.......2006-10-21

Obviously Bill Doss (and his old parter William Hart) is influenced heavily by the Beatles and the Beach Boys. But Please don't just listen to this album briefly and casually and dismiss it as lesser quality Beatles, or songs that should be Beatle B-sides. To me, as much as I respect the Beatles, Bill Doss holds his own in regards to vocals and how he can produce the albums in order to make it sound like his voice is coming from a hundred different directions, and the harmonies are as good if not better than anything I've heard in music. Personally, I enjoy the way Bill Doss crafts his albums better than the beatles, because it's as pretty and probably trippier if you really listen to it. I'm not starting a debate about who's better, but I'm just saying that Bill Doss's albums are great albums, and deserve much more respect than to be pushed aside because of the similar style and sound. Is it original? Not totally. But I think he has done an amazing job of combining beautiful and melodic songs with the most freakish instrumental arangements I have heard in my life. Overall, I think the craftsmanship of his albums are above anything in any similar genre, or any genre really.

That said, I have to admit this album is possibly as good as Olivia Tremor Control's stuff. It's a close call, but this album probably has more good songs than Doss's other efforts, and this album is a bit more eclectic when it comes to the style of the overall sound. Circulatory System is my personal favorite album from everyone ever associated with Elephant 6, but this album is right on the heals of that album. I recommend listening to this album loud and with decent speakers, so you can get the full effect of the instruments and Doss's voice. It's such a great feeling to listen to the album in my car or house, turned up really loud and hearing Doss's voice echoing around the room and throughout my head. A great experience in music.

3 out of 5 stars This sounds very familiar.......2006-04-25

I feel like this album could have easily served as the B-side to the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour album. The high pitched British-accented vocals are very Lennon-McCartneyesque, and the regular, unrelenting snaredrum that defines the beat to virtually every song is almost exactly the same as what we would hear from Ringo. So if you want lower quality Beatles-like music from 1967, go ahead and enjoy the album!

4 out of 5 stars Good Way 2 B.......2004-11-17

"Age of the Sun" by Sunshine Fix is a good collection. Its experimental mix of 60s-style pop melodies and unusual electronica that is sweetly attractive. "Mr. Summer Day" has airy harmonies that would have fit on a record by the Association with a pretty pulsing melody and some electronic noodling. My favorite track is "A Better Way to Be" with its John Lennon meets Brian Wilson vocals and its gorgeous melody, "Did you know that's not the way it's supposed to be?" On the final Sun King track "Le Roi-Soleil" the over 9-minute holding of a single note was a bit more experimental than I care to follow. However, overall this is an interesting disc that I went back and picked up after becoming entranced by "Green Imagination." Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars A Sublime Evocation of Summer.......2002-06-03

The cover art depicts a stone Zodiac tuned to the months May through September, with what looks like a sun of rubber bands floating above, while the music therein beautifully expresses an aural equivalent of just that image: exquisitely crafted pop music as sunny and lucid as the season of Summer itself, simultaneously as surreal as a bouncing planet made from rubber bands.
A certain kind of spirituality also seems to be expressed here (fans of The Olivia Tremor Control will be familiar with the joyful yea-saying that permeated that band's two albums), making this collection of masterfully executed pop tunes a healthy fix for the soul as well as for the ears.
Not only are the melodies and lyrics of a sunshiny quality (which is not to say saccharine or in any sense cloying: the emotional level of this music is too real for mere sentiment [this is crystal clear bubbling pop, not treacly syrup]), but they have been enhanced and seasoned with hand claps, electronic effects, bells, xylophone, cellos, mellotron, loops and other delightful ephemera... Brian Wilson's Smile madcap minus the demons that derailed that pop-train.
The world needs more of this kind of stuff.

4 out of 5 stars Welcome the Age of the Sun!!.......2002-04-13

After the Olivia Tremor Control's split into two "halves," thebilldoss (I'll forgive him his ego because I didn't see his picture anywhere in the liner notes, heh heh :)), the obvious "yang" of the duo, has rebounded with "Age of the Sun," the second offering from his side project The Sunshine Fix. Cullen-Hart, OTC's "yin," has graced us with the Circulatory System. Though both are fabulous albums, neither is as good as "Cubist Castle" or "Black Foliage"(I liked the latter better, by the way).

But, if you love eyes-wide-open, Abbey Road-inspired, Cowsills-meets-Elliott Smith SUNNY pop, look no further than this album.

My favorites are Mr. Summer Day (think Paul McCartney meets Skylarking-era XTC) and Everything is Waking (very "It's a Beautiful Morning" -- reminds me of childhood family vacations when my parents would play Rascals tapes).

The only reason this album doesn't quite get 5 stars is because I think parts are a bit too derivative. The acoustic guitar intro to "Sail Beyond the Sun" sounds waay too much like "Dear Prudence," and the instrumental break in "Everything is Waking" is a bit too derivative of "Pictures of Matchstick Men."

5 out of 5 stars I AM LOVING THIS CD!!!.......2007-05-05

I HAVE BEEN AN NKOTB FAN SINCE 20 YRS AGO AND JUST RECENTLY STUMBLED UPON A VIDEO OF JORDAN PERFORMING HIS SONG "YOUR MAN" FROM THIS EP AND IMMEDIATELY BECAME HOOKED ONCE AGAIN. SINCE THEN, IVE PURCHASED THIS CD, HIS LOVE SONGS CD, HIS FIRST SOLO CD, & THE ONE WHERE HE PERFORMS THE NKOTB HITS. ALL OF WHICH ARE VERY IMMPRESSIVE AND MADE ME FALL IN LOVE HIM ALL OVER AGAIN. I AM EVEN FLYING TO MIAMI FROM TEXAS TO SEE HIM PERFORM, FIRST TIME EVER! CANT WAIT!!!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2006-11-17

I have been a fan of Jordan Knight and the other New Kids since 1988. I remeber seeing them in concert when I was 13 back in 1990. Here it is 16 years later and I am still following what the boys are up to. Although Jordan's self titled debut took a while to grow on me, when it did I was hooked. The Fix is a well balanced EP of new material. I was hoping for a whole album, but an EP is way better than nothing. Anyway, when I bought it I instantly loved it. Its about half ballads and half up-tempo tracks. A different but still intelligent non-sappy pop album. I don't know what to compare it to because it really holds its own in terms of sound and style. Probably not too many people know about this EP, but those that do can appreciate it and enjoy it. I'm happy Jordan and Joey are still making music that is even better than their group stuff. As long as you keep making music Jordan, I will buy it. Love Songs is great too, although I can't wait for an album of all new material. Keep em coming Jordan.

5 out of 5 stars The fix is awesome.......2006-07-06

This cd Is really good. I like all of the songs they are all great. My song that I really like is Where is your heart Tonight. Just listen to the samples you will fall in love with the cd Like I did.

5 out of 5 stars Wow! Fantastic album!.......2006-06-01

This recent offering from Jordan Knight proves how he's matured musically since his NKOTB days. There are a couple of ballads on there which are amazing, including "Where Is Your Heart Tonight" (which has done really well in the US A/C charts) and "Have You" - both are the gorgeous love songs you'd expect from JK and not at all like the cheesy 80's offerings from his New Kids past (although I did love NK's too! LOL!).

The rest of the album is up-tempo. The title track "The Fix" is a fast raunchy tune featuring music greats Doug. E Fresh and Slick Rick that you just can't help dancing to!

"Don't Cry" is a dance track that actually did brilliantly in the Spanish charts, hence the reason for a Spanish version on the album! I love it! It shows Jordan's amazing falsetto off fantastically against a different beat, proving he's a master of all musical genres!

My personal favourite on the album is "Keep It On The Sly", again upbeat, this tune tells the sexy story around keeping a relationship secret! It's fab, you'll love it!

All told, if you don't love this album I'll be surprised! Don't think New Kids, think US version of George Michael - there's always something different and brilliant coming!

5 out of 5 stars Certainly "Fixed" my longing for some new Jordan Knight music!.......2006-05-03

As Jordan's first full studio album came out in 1999, it was a long wait for The Fix. So was it worth it? I knew it was the moment I heard the first track. Where Is Your Heart Tonight is a stirring ballad and it's hard to say whether I preferred this version or the acoustic version which follows later on. Have You, another ballad, really showcases Jordan's amazing falsetto voice and shows that he certainly still has "The Right Stuff"! (New Kids fans will know what I'm talking about here)

The Fix, Keep It On The Sly and Your Man are more uptempo r'n'b tracks which not only had me tapping my toes in time to the beat but also brought back great memories of the times I have been lucky enough to see this very talented singer and performer live in concert - not to be missed if you get the chance. There's even a Spanish version of "Don't Cry" on this CD!

If you are a Jordan Knight or New Kids On The Block fan, this CD is a must for your collection. If you aren't, give it a try, I think you'll be won over!
