It Doesn't Get Much Better Than This!!!.......2003-10-18

If your new to Go-Go or a die hard fan like myself. This should be one of the foremost CD's in any ones collection, other than Chuck Brown Live at the 9:30. I was surprised to hear EU coming hard after all these years. 911 was notable but Backyard stole the show. Chuck was just ol Chuck. His songs we've heard over a million times. This CD has a great rang of tunes from bluesy to gangsta. This might be one of the last of these kind of Jams. With all the All Stars together in concert.

Get the UNEDITED DVD instead.......2003-04-30

I ordered the DVD first and loved it. I was going on a trip, and wanted the CD to take with me. So I ordered the CD as well. Boy am I disappointed. The CD is edited...I would assume for time though. It's really disappointing to hear one version on the DVD, and be used to that version, then listen to an edited version. I was listening to 911's set, and it's OBVIOUS that their set was edited. I turned the CD off after five minutes, because I was extremely disappointed.

Bottom line: If you own the DVD, stick with it. Do NOT get the CD, because you'll be disappointed. If you don't own the DVD, you may want to get that instead of the CD. If you OWN the CD, if you get the DVD, you'll find that it's more satisfying by far.

The 3 star rating is because the music is still great, but I can't rate it higher, because this version doesn't reach it's full potential. Get the DVD instead. If you can somehow capture the audio and burn it to CD, you'd be best served doing that instead of buying this CD. I'm ready to sell mine.

Just when the rest of the country began the notion that the Washington DC based Go-Go music has just about exhausted its creative juices and house partying abilities, out comes a product that justifies just how strong music continues to thrive. Live music that's keep at the forefront.

"Put Your Hands Up" reflects on a joyous event where the bands and the audience together partied in a birthday celebration for the music's founder, Chuck Brown. The celebration, which was held at Washington, DC's 930 Club, starts off with a touch of the old school flavor with the performance by go-go legends EU, featuring Sugar Bear and Ju-Ju. Representing the young strong sound to the table of performances is none other than DC's own Backyard Band. The lyrically flowing band that rocks under the name of 911 follows them. Ending the show is Chuck Brown, who grazes the stage with his own unique blend of bluesy go-go styles that signifies his proclamation, "It don't mean a thing if it ain't got the Go-Go swing."

This celebration brings out some of the finest in the history of go-go, to include the likes of Sugar Bear, Ju-Ju, Tino, Mighty Mo, Junie, Big G, Buggy, Hot Sauce, Los, D. Floyd, Rah, Godfava, BJ, Little Benny, Maiesha, Go-Go Mickey, Whiteboy, Big Tony, Blazin Bryan Mills, Cherie Mitchell, and of course the man himself - Chuck Brown.

This boxed set is by far one of the best purchases I have ever made. As a Purcell freak, this hits every button I have. The cast of characters include the inequitable Robert King, New College Choir, Bowman, and a host of other venerable persons. Likewise the attention to period performance of these works makes it an essential addition to the library of any serious anglophile/Musicologist etc. Now if only the Britten Realizations of all Purcell's songs could be recorded alongside the originals! You will Love this set!
