Against All Odds.......2006-05-10
I TRULY ENJOY THIS CD AND THE MOVIE. MY FAVORITE IS TRACK 1, "AGAINST ALL ODDS" (Look at me Now) by PHIL COLLINS. INCREDIBLE AND EXTREMELY TOUCHING SONG TO MY HEART. I DEDICATE THIS SONG TO "A MAN I ONCE LOVED" AND STILL DO FOREVER.... I WILL ALWAYS TREASURE THIS TRACK AND ALL OF PHIL COLLINS MUSIC...
Against All Odds Soundtrack Review.......2005-08-22
The soundtrack is good, but I actually bought it for just one song,'My Male Curiosity,' by Kid Creole and the Coconuts. The song is really good, but I couldn't find it ANYWHERE else. Amazon had it, the price was great, and the delivery was fast, so it was worth it.
Great Soundtrack, And An Extra Treat For Genesis Fans.......2005-08-13
The soundtrack to the 1984 film "Against All Odds" is an excellent album, and, if you happen to be a Genesis fan, you'll also appreciate that no less than three past members of Genesis contribute solo tracks. Of course there's singer Phil Collins with his classic, Oscar-nominated title song, but also making appearances are singer Peter Gabriel and his rhythmic track, "Walk Through The Fire", and guitarist Mike Rutherford, who contributes the pulsating rock of "Making A Big Mistake" (Mike also does a rare lead vocal on the song as well). Also onboard with great songs are Stevie Nicks, Big Country, and Kid Creole & The Coconuts (remember them?). The second half of the album features the instrumental music from the film, performed with great flare by Michel Colombier and veteran guitarist Larry Carlton, including the spooky "The Search," the romantic shades of "For Love Alone," and the manically percussive "Murder Of A Friend." "Against All Odds" is a great soundtrack disc. I highly recommend it to anyone, but I think Genesis fans in particular should take notice of it for the contributions from Phil, Peter, and Mike. (NOTE: Peter Gabriel's song, "Walk Through The Fire," as it appears on the soundtrack album, is great, but it was an even better song when it was released as a single, as it was remixed with a stronger percussion track. I hope the single version of "Walk Through The Fire" will resurface in the near future, either on a Gabriel rarities collection or box set.)
Brilliant.......2004-06-26
It's 2004 & this CD is still as hot as it was upon release. Beautiful, moody, moving music.
Good CD.......2001-02-09
Pretty good CD..The Highlight for me is the Stevie Nicks song. She's so great and it's a great song. I also like "Against All Odds" by Phil Collins. I recommend you buy it, it's worth it.

Take 5.......2005-10-15
I remember this album when I was in the 8th grade. I love this album. This album shows them bringing to the music world a sound, a style and an attitude that's all their own. Pop and R&B are evident on this project. This album should have been promoted more.
Worst of the Lou Pearlman-founded groups.......2004-09-26
This group Take 5, didn't really impress me with this album. They tend to copy NSYNC too much on a few of the songs and Backstreet Boys on a few others. They don't sound all that good vocally. A couple of the songs are mediocre and dopey sounding. Lou Pearlman discovered some good Orlando-based groups, but this group didn't move me. Neither did O-Town. Sorry that they broke up--hope they end up on some Where Are They Now show 20 years now to discuss this failed, poorly received album!!!!! Disappointing to me!
Great CD for anybody.......2003-06-22
I've had this CD for about 3 years now and I listen to almost everyday when i'm getting ready for whatever i'm going to do. I mostly listen to rap and R&B and I love this even though they are a boy band. I think almost anyone who listens to it will find something on the album that they like.
Strong tracks outweigh the filler- Overall, a good choice.......2003-06-05
Shake it Off and Bounce are the two best tracks on this CD- both are infectious dance tunes that will get you up and movin'. Do That is another good dance song. Hottie has a smooth R&B feel to it. Missing An Angel and To Make You Love Me are ballads, but with good beats to them. However the song Girl Next Door- a song about cheating on your girlfriend, simply did not click with me, and cost this album one star. The remaining songs are filler- ballads that lack the unique sound that Take 5 has on their better tracks. Still, with the good outweighing the bad, I recommending giving this album a spin.
the best.......2003-01-03
this is the best cd you have to have it. the songs are just amazing.

I purchased this item to be played in my wedding. I've planned my wedding ceremony on the basis of this song.
Tarralyn Ramsey....so soulful............2006-03-03
Never before have I been in love with a voice such as hers. It is the sound of heaven to heart, soul, and the ears. Truly uncomparable,...the likes of Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Kelly Price, & Shirley Murdock all wrapped into one person. She's definitely on her way to blowing these women out the water. I suggest everyone take a serious listen to this woman, her time is now,.....if a voice hasnt touched your heart or moved you in some way, then one listen will definitely be a life changing experience!

Quintessentially Queensbridge (4 stars, ignore the 3).......2007-04-05
Intelligent Hoodlum, a former member of Marley Marl's Juice Crew, released two excellent albums in the early 90s, spent eight years in and out of the streets and incarceration, and reemerged in 2001 as Tragedy Khadafi with "Against All Odds." The transformation experienced during this time is fairly drastic, but Khadafi remains the incredible lyricist he was at a young age. Tragedy Khadafi is the blueprint of a Queensbridge lyricist. His dramatic, literate tales of street crime, depression, and loss over somber beats create a sound that is quintessentially Queensbridge, and really not too far removed from the familiar sounds of Cormega, Capone-N-Noreaga, Mobb Deep, and Nas. "Against All Odds" is a good album, but at times it can be frustrating. At his best Khadafi is as effective as any of the aforementioned, capable of evoking great emotion and telling grim and enticing stories. Sometimes though, he is weighed down by conventional rap clichés, and the boring hooks and subject matter make it sound like a good lyricist on cruise control. One might accuse him of being a little one-dimensional. There is an incredibly impressive list of producers, but at times, the production doesn't help his case either. Producers include legends Prince Paul, Just Blaze, Sha Money XL, and Spunk Bigga. For every great, east coast hardcore beat on the album there's a completely uncreative and boring one. Guests appear on eleven of the fifteen songs, and they do a good job. The good songs do outweigh the skip material on "Against All Odds" though, and it really does show the amazing rapper and character that Tragedy Khadafi is. This is an album I recommend to fans of Queensbridge hip hop.
After the intro, the album begins with the title track, which is excellent, one of the best on the album. Over an awesome, fast, and angry beat, Tragedy spits three of his finest verses, explaining "the saga of his life." The collaboration "Crime Nationalists" with Headrush Napoleon and Tasha Holiday follows, a nice cut. "Lift Ya Glass" is boring musically but has pretty good verses from Khadafi and Imam T.H.U.G. Ja Rule makes a high profile appearance on the interesting prison commentary "Bing Monsters," which also features Headrush Napoleon. "Live By the Gun" is a nice song, fairly similar to a lot of the album, and it is followed by my favorite song, "They Force My Hand," a Queensbridge classic featuring fellow QB underground legend Cormega. Over some beautiful production, the duo delivers some truly heartfelt verses about growing up hard between a great chorus. The slow and thoughtful "Permanently Scarred (I Don't Wanna Wait)" uses a similar concept, telling sad stories while provoking deep thought, and an unlikely hook from the "Dawson's Creek" theme for another very effective song. "Sidewalk Confessions" has understated, tough production with great lyricism from Tragedy, Headrush Napoleon, and Killah Sha. "Say Goodbye" is a fair song, skippable for me, an angry shout to dishonest women. "Blood Type" is an angry diss track aimed at another QB rapper, a decent listen. "What Makes You Think" is boring, clichéd, and forgettable. The Milz collabo "Never Bite the Hand" is a highlight, and "T.M. (Message to Killa Black)" is a strong track musically and lyrically. The album ends with two of its very best songs. "2-5 Radio" is an upbeat party track, the only one of its kind on this disc, with a great beat and chorus. "In Memory Of" if a heartfelt song to his lost friends and family, the best verse being about his mother.
"Against All Odds" is a very appealing yet inconsistent album. Big fans of Queensbridge hip hop should surely add this to the collection, while more casual fans might find it a little redundant. In any event, it's a very entertaining and emotional album that listeners are sure to like. I don't like this as much as his next album, Still Reportin', but I still recommend it.
awful..........2006-08-07
Tragedy Khadafi's first 2 albums are well worth picking up...but this album is as much a fall off from those 2 albums as Mobb Deep's "Infamy" was compared with "The Infamous". What happened to the beats? How can these beats be considered good is beyond me...to my ears they just sound like someone has pressed some demo pre-set button on a casio keyboard. (except for the first track after the intro, which I admit is okay. the rest...forget it).
Tragedy Khadafi is a solid emcee but I cant listen to this because of the beats.
The Best.......2006-05-05
Tragedy Khadafi is one of the best M.Cs alive possibly THE BEST his verses are deep and his word play is put together so nice its almost hard to believe.Personally i cant think of another rapper with the skills he displays. Now as for his albums i cant choose one i like better than another thats like asking me which one of my kids i love better LOL.So all i can say is get them all.
Yo Biggy was nice 2pac was nice but Tragedy is on another level.PEASE

Yo, you cant get better than this. This guy is incredible with everything he does. I have all his cds and Im glad I do. This is his "BEST" cd in my eyes. Forreal though this cd is a classic and this guy is definetly slept on big time. sheer class.......2004-07-22
This one really lives up to all positive reviews and could be the spiritual successor to the Bobby Watson/Curtis Lundy debut 'estimated time of arrival'from way back in 1977.
On 'Against all odds' every musician shines and generously plays for each other with John Hicks and Tony Wonsey(piano) being especially impressive.
Carmen lundy has vocals on three tracks, my favourite being 'a long journey' which has similarities to jimmy heaths 'the time & the place'(1974).
If you are new to Carmen lundy check out her 1985 track 'never gonna let you go' which also emphasises her impressive vocal range.
Guest musician Roy hargrove is used sparingly yet only adds to the wonderfully organic sound of this brilliant album
Delicious Jazz Platter!!!!.......2003-03-02
This is one of the FINEST jazz albums ever to be released!! Curtis Lundy, who has played with some of the greatest jazz artists ever, is greatly influenced by the career and musicians of Betty Carter. Curtis has produced great sophisticated songs in this work.
The collaboration of the artists are each GIFTED masters in their own right and the blend of their sounds is perfection! Just to name a few are Bobby Watson one of the top altoists on sax for decades; Roy Hargrove a well-respected musician with quite a list of accomplishments on trumpet, flute and flugelhorn; John Hicks on piano whose career has a long and brilliant span; Peven Everett who has played with the likes of the Marsalis brothers to name a few; Winard Harper, as a seasoned jazz performer at an early age has jammed with the top jazz musicians; Anthony Wonsey, a fluid pianist with a great association with the giants of jazz; and Shelley Carrol, brilliant tenor sax man.
Check out (sister) Carmen Lundy's contribution of songwriting collaboration and her incredibly stylish vocals. She shines on "A Long Journey", "Where'd It Go?" and "Blue Woman". An accomplished jazz vocalist in her own name, her interpretations are (as always) rich and satisfying.
One of the real cooking numbers is "Groydology". This song will BLOW YOU AWAY!! It's infectious beginning gradually spotlights each musician's individual artistry as the song continues its funky trek through the swingin' melodies and chords! Nearly 12 minutes long, I never get enough of this song. "Teardrops" has a sultry, haunting feel. Pay special attention to the wondrous solo from Roy Hargrove. "Blue Woman" highlights Carmen Lundy's vocal instrument as one of the most soulful in the jazz world!
A MUST for the jazz music lover. In fact EVERY real jazz connoissuer needs to add this cd to their collection!!!
Buy it for Carmen's superlative vocals!.......2001-03-07
I was already a fan of Carmen Lundy, Curtis' sister, so this CD was a natural choice. She probably has one of the top 10 voices in Jazz today, though her name isn't as well known as her talent deserves. I will never understand why someone with a voice as thin as Diana Krall sells so many records, when there is so much better talent out there.
If you're more impressed by a great voice and a great band than by packaging and album sales, check this one out. I also recommend Carmen Lundy's "Self Portrait". My own favorite track on "Against All Odds" is "Blue Woman", which Carmen shines in.
Curtis Your Time Has Come!.......2000-05-31
This album is great! I enjoyed every song on the album. My favorite tune is "GROYDOLOGY" This tune which features Anthony Wonsey on piano is incredible. A funky little shuffle that keeps coming at you. Curtis adds the flavor that keeps you coming back for more. The next song that I enjoyed was Blue Woman which features the voice of Carmen Lundy was tastefully done in 6 with colorful lyrics. Although Curtis has played with the likes of Betty Carter, Art Blakey, Pharoah Sanders until now he has never received his reconigtion as a writer, composer and artist. Well he has beat the the odds and emerged as an great artist to be recknoned with. Mr. Lundy no longer shall you stand in the shawdows of the great ones, you have earned your place as one of Jazzes premier artists . I only hope that this is the beginning of more great things to come from you and Justin Time Records. Five Stars is not quite enough!.
Against All Odds a pleasant surprise.......2000-01-25
Despite the title (I thought it was going to be a movie soundtrack or Phil Collins pop song) this is an incredible assortment of jazz tunes by a very tight band. The orchestration is superb and the addition of a few vocal tracks by Curtis Lundy's sister makes for great variety. I listened to it on a 400 mile drive and never turned it off. It, along with the new Elliott Caine Sextet disk, Orientation, is now on my jazz top ten list.

CHI TOWN HEAT.......2006-01-05
THIS N**** DOPE!
Marz has been around a few yrs back and returned with his 4th indie release Against All Odds.....
MOst of the hooks on thiz thang are catchy, good s*** to relax/jam too this is a banger allrite.......
only traks that were weak on it are "red carpet pimpin" and "on a hustle" b-sides that, everything else flows nicely and sounds sharp....dont sleep
Chi-town is the city!!!.......2005-10-28
I first heard of Marz a few years back. I picked up his debut Lung Fu Mo She, and liked it a lot at the time. Now when listening to it the beats sound pretty generic, and as a whole the album sounds dated. I hadn't really payed attention to him until now when I found out he had three albums I missed. Left Gorilla Pimpin alone, not too big on rock/rap. Lung Fu Mo She is definately rock/rap, and Gorilla Pimpin sounds even more so. Took a listen to TGZ Nation the Mixtape, and Against All Odds and really liked them. You can tell this time around the focus is on hip-hop, not rock. TGZ Nation has good beats, but they're not Marz's beats. The beats on Against All Odds are decent, but not high quality, although a few stand out. Marz is really improving his rapping skills, and although I feel he may never break into the mainstream, he may become a good underground rapper. He stills needs to work on, and polish his flow, as well as expand his vocabulary. Against All Odds is a good cd, entertaining listen, and if you buy it from his website it will only cost you 10 bucks. Check it out, you shouldn't be dissappointed. Thanx 4 reppin Chi-town Marz.
This **** is good........2005-10-15
There isn't one track on this record I didn't love. Marz's lyrics are great and cover everything form the gangster, the inspiring and the funny. You can dance to this record, relax to it and well you know.
I definitely recommend it.
