About the Artist
Jason Frerking, aka L'O.C. aka Another Lost Soul, has been writing seriously since he was 9, but his interest in rap began in 1987 when he was only five years old. From then on, not a day went by that he didn't let few lines fly out of his mouth. At the age of 17, he recorded two demo tapes in his bedroom under the group name Tha OCT'z (Orange County Truez). The name was not for a rap group, but for the group of friends in his life and his home that shaped who he was as an artist. One year later and just out of high school, Jason decided to record his own independent album and release it on his own. The album was a 68 minute CD that would turn heads. "Tha OCT'z present: The Chronicles" was an underground success around OC (and across the country), and with good reason. With so much diversity in Orange County, California, it's easily reflected in the music. Not staying with one partcular style, the mood of the tracks ranged from serious emotional tracks to party joints, to rapid-fire bangers suitable for bumping in your trunk. But this album was just to get their attention. The whole time, Jason was writing and producing for the next album (along with side projects all over the place). "Letters from a Lost Soul" was birthed through this year and a half process.
Product Description
This album is a compilation of songs written and recorded from September, 2000 to February 2002. The outcome is another 68-minute CD that flies by any expectation from the earlier work. For the most part, it charts the progression of the artist (earlier recordings in the beginning/newer recordings near the end)and growth lyically and musically. Every song is once again different. "Come, Sweet Death" is a bass-driven, fast-spittin', dark track with eerie choir vocals. "You" is a love letter from this Lost Soul, and is already a favorite among the ladies. Collaborations like "No Doubt" (with Misft from Kaotic Krew) and "OC2KC" (with Lee Stylez from Undawurld) are true-to-rap hits. While "Faith", "So Many Questions", and "So Beautiful" become a spiritual journey in its ups and downs. Then there are the fun party tracks like "Hands Up!" and "Lemme Hav Sum Fun". The result is one album you don't want to miss. There's something for everyone here.
