4 out of 5 stars Great soundtrack, horrible movie.............2005-01-28

I pulled out this CD the other day after it had gathered dust for several years in my collection and quickly remembered what a great album this was back in the day. Although the movie was terrible and forever sealed Bill Bellamy to footnote status in the world of pop culture, the soundtrack is a perfect compilation of late 90's hip-hop that encompassed the best of all three coasts (east, west, gulf).

The very underappreciated Foxy Brown is featured on a couple of sharp tracks including joining up with Dru Hill on "Big Bad Mama" which was the most commercially successfuly single off of this disc. The soundtrack also features great efforts from the likes of 2pac, Master P, and Junior Mafia. Although soundtrack albums will always feature a smattering of misses the ratio of misses to sucesses is kept very low.

Pick this CD up if you are in the mood for a good sampling of late 90's commerical hip-hop.

5 out of 5 stars kicks A$$.......1999-11-02

This is a great soundtrack. I can listen to it over and over and I still think that it is cool. If you don't have this CD you should go buy it.

5 out of 5 stars HOT SOUNDTRACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......1999-04-17

THIS SOUNDTRACK WILL OPEN UP ANY ONES EYES. IT HAS SMOOTH R+B TRACKS, HARDCORE TRACKS , AND THE SMOOTH ANTHEMS THAT HIT THE MOVIE AND PROVIDE A GREAT SOUND. I LOVE TRACKS LIKE "YOUNG CASANOVAS" WHERE THE JUNIOR MAFIA TEAMS UP WITH MASE AND KAM ON A HOT TRACK, THE HARDCORE TRACK "THE USUAL SUSPECTS" BY MIC GERMINO FEATURING DMX, JA RULE, AND CORMEGA, THE SMOOTH, SEXY TRACK "BIG BAD MAMMA" BY FOXY BROWN FEATURING DRU HILL HELPED TOP CHARTS, AND ANOTHER REALLY REALLY HOT SONG IS "IN THE WIND" BY EIGHTBALL AND MJG. OTHER ARTISTS THAT MAKE "THE CUT" ARE 2 PAC, ABSOLUTE, RICK JAMES, RICHIE RICH, GOLDIE, AND EPMD. THE SOUNDTRACK IS REALLY HOT TOO. NOT MANY SOUNDTRACKS CAN TOP THIS ALBUM.

2 out of 5 stars It's okay.......1999-04-06

I only bought this cd because I love Foxy Brown and I wanted to get her song Big Bad Mamma. I also liked I Gotta Know by Playa. I'm giving it two stars, one for Big Bad Mamma, one for I Gotta Know. Those two songs were the best, however, I wasn't entertained with the rest of the songs, and I didn't like the movie.

5 out of 5 stars With an all-star line-up, this soundtrack makes its mark........1998-06-26

The soundtrack for "How To Be A Player" was definitely a must-have in 1997, with an all-star line-up featuring hard-hitters Foxy Brown, EPMD, Master P, and Redman. The gold soundtrack was bought to the attention of consumers because of it's smashing lead-single, "Big Bad Mamma" by Foxy Brown, which cleverly sampled the old-school hit "Bad Mamma Jamma."
