Thanks to Cam'ron Giles and his Dip Set crew, Harlem gains a major foothold in the East Coast battle of the boroughs sparked by Jay-Z and Nas. Layering raw rhymes over street beats that frequently incorporate speeded-up and dragged-out R&B samples (courtesy of the Heatmakerz), Diplomatic Immunity extends the massive heat generated by Killa Cam's platinum Come Home With Me. Some tracks on this double CD should have been relegated to the "filler" pile (the perfunctory "Hey Ma" remix, for example) but the songs that work spit fire. Diplomatic Immunity is laden with imagery of uptown drug-game drama (the Bone Thugs-inspired "The First") and downtown terrorist destruction ("I Love You")--painting post-9/11 New York in appropriately somber colors--but love of home and family is the top-level vibe. Harlem should be proud. --Rebecca Levine

Great CD.......2007-05-17

Stop Snitchin Stop Lyin.......2006-04-19
The kat 3 reviews below me is a fake. Period. That dude is not from Bed-Stuy. Talkin bout "i'm from bedstuy! Yeah! I keep it gangsta!" Okay mr. gangster, if you live in one of the worst projects in America, then why the hell are you on the internet? Internet don't go to the projects, dumb*ss! Quit being such a fake*ss "Mr. Amazon.com Gangster" and go get a hobby. The guy 2 reviews below me is right. There are too many haters writing bad reviews about this group even though they haven't heard the album, they have just heard the singles and they didn't like those so they assume the rest of the album is bad. They are wrong. Besides, who cares about the Diplomats image? The bottom line is - how good is this album? People who have heard the album will tell you it's pretty damn good. Not every song on here is great, but all the beats are crazy-hot,and the really hot songs make up for the ok ones. The really hot songs on here are Real N*ggas, Dipset Anthem, I Really Mean It, I Love You, and Built This City. Like I said, the beats and samples are the best thing about this album. I want to go back to the days where people would come on here to talk about the actual songs on the actual album. Forget about images and "I'm from BedStuy" fakes and all that garbage. People look at reviews to find out if the album is worth buying, which this one is. There are a lot of songs on here for a cheap price. It's pretty damn good. Period.
Dip Set's First Album (3.5 Stars).......2006-03-14
Usually double albums are a hit or a miss depending on who you are. Usually they have about a total of 24 to about 30 or so tracks. The bad thing is that most of those tracks are fillers and many fans say that they should have found a way to condense it on to 1 CD, (But sometimes record companies force many artists to produce a double album in their contract.) But don't get me wrong, because many double albums are a sucess (2pac's "All Eyez On Me"; Notorious B.I.G.'s "Life After Death"; Nas' "Streets Deciple"; Jay-Z's "Blueprint 2"- just to name a few popular to get an example of what I'm talking about)
Now the Diplomats' double album could have been one of those CD's that could have be condensed. Not saying the CD is bad, but it has a lot of songs that should not be on here or some that were on a few mixtapes I recall seeing in 2002.
Some good songs that many people will think that are somewhat or above average could be "Ground Zero" "Dipset Anthem (Gangsta Music)" "I Really Mean It" "My Love" and a few others.
A few songs that could have not been on here could have been songs like "Purple Haze" (Which also appeared on the DJ Kay Slay's Streetsweeper Vol. 1, which was distributed in stores), "Hey Ma (Remix)" which could have been a B-Side to something from Cam'ron's "Come Home With Me" CD. "The First" that borrows Bone Thugs 'N' Harmony's "First Of the Month" in the hook Cam says "Ay yo, ay yo, yayo, yayo, its the first of the month" borrowing the tune to the orginal song. It also could have done without the interludes.
Well as I mentioned earlier that record companies require to make a double album, well they have it out of the way. Just plenty of B-Sides and interludes to help stretch the album for its length. If you like Cam'ron or Julez Santana, both artists appear the most on the album, this is one you cannot pass up.
Damn it's alot of haterz in here.......2006-01-26
The album is nice and if you originally purchased it when it came out it was $8.99 not bad for over 20 songs. Great productions (Heatmakerz are fire) and it gives you a preview of whats to come. You really can't say nothing bad about the album but a hater can say something bad about anything and for the most part alot of these cats havent even heard the whole album. Bottom line if you like the diplomats you'll like this album

DIPSET IS TAKING OVER.......2005-11-13
Out of the haters and clowns who knock dipset I respect them highly.Real regonize real and only a "real person" can understand where Hell Rell, Cam'ron, Juelz Santana, Freeky Zeek,
JR Writer, 40 Cal, Ja Ja, Max B, and my baby Jim Jones is coming from. There's NOT ONE dipset mixtape or album I don't have or know or don't approve of. It's like the people who need to be regonized is never regonized enough. If you don't like dipset you minds well not even listen to rap. It's all about realness, your G-ed up swager, your own apperance and way of doings things, how street you really are, and how your differnt. It's always better to stand out then be the same. And that's what Dipset does. So who don't mess wit the Dips then we know where you stand. Don't get me wrong a lot of good music is out there and a twice as much as of fake G's Claiming to be IT but ISN'T. So I ma leave as liten, learn and you will like the Dips.
Immune.......2005-10-11
The Diplomats' added on to its roster with man power and one lady to be exact, for their sophomore release, Diplomatic Immunity 2. J.R. Writer whom is one of the new recruits was very impressive on "Stop-N-Go" as he took over the song with Cam'ron having such a small impact on the song. "Take Em To Church" was featured on Purple Haze which did nothing to give this the album the push it needed. With another opportunity at bat, J.R. Writer & Juelz Santana flowed over a more bounce track, not typical for any East Coast artist that made this an eye opener. Another track that was featured on Cam'ron's Purple Haze is "Family Ties". Though the lyrics are different and it features 40 Cal & Hell Rell, the beat is still as potent. "Get From Round Me" has a southern beat that showed Dip Set in another light with Jha Jha, Cam'ron & Juelz Santana. Jim Jones & S.A.S. flow was as upbeat as the track on "Dutty Clap". For commercial appeal, "I Wanna Be Your Lady" with Cam'ron, Nicole Wray & J.R. Writer is as close as it gets on this LP. Another new member 40 Cal flowed solo on self titled song with veering violins, but whose flow was only average. "Melalin" by Bugs is a good track but its failing fate lied in his muffled voice and flow. Cam'ron & Juelz Santana gave this album hope again with "Dead ***********". "Push It" which was sampled from the Salt N' Pepa remix was more of a comedic effort by Cam'ron, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana & J.R. Writer. For a crowd pleaser Cam'ron & Juelz Santana have the popular saying and title "Aayoo-Iight". Finally the "Bigger Picture" with Cam'ron & Juelz Santana was necessary to complete the album's direction and overall feel. Ending on a strong note, "Crunk Muzik" by Jim Jones, Cam'ron & Juelz Santana was something different for them. As they brand a different style for the East Coast with their version of the south's style of crunk. Not as good as the first volume, but well worth having this addition to your collection.

Dip-WACK!.......2005-08-18
I have to say this to the Diplomats. They have their own opinions, and I do too. Opinions are like birthdates, their different. This whole mixtape sucked! There from mixtapes that we've listened to from last year ago and now you put them on the albums? It dosen't make sense. The mixtapes are on CDs and nobody is hosting it, so why do you say it's the whole point when you're putting all of the tracks that haven't been hosted on the CD?! That is part of the mixtapes. Make stuff that is not
the mixtape. Maybe that will help. Because if your not getting money, theres your problem. Hey, you don't have to listen to me. But you will be sorry. VERY SORRY! Sorry Cam. You have BIG WORLDS of IMAGINATION. If you have a mind of your own, you better start using it and don't say you just did. That was the same mind that you used when you made the mixtapes and it's HARD?! Hey! It's hard for me to rap. This is the real world. Tell the truth to everybody on the next Diplomatic Immunity. Oh Yeah. He did the same thing again! AGAIN! More then Music. I've been listining to Cam for like 7 years and this is garbage. I'll give this three stars.
1. Stop-N-Go (NO! NOOO! NOOOOO! NOOOOOOOO!)
2. S.A.N.T.A.N.A. (Your back but the beat is not better then ever)
3. Take Em To Church (Take anybody else to church but not Ma$e)
4. Get Use To This (How could I get used to this mixtape)
5. Family Ties (NOPE)
6. Wouldn't You Like To Be A Gangsta Too (NOO!)
7. Get From Round Me (The beat sounds like some mission)
8. Dutty Clap (This song is corney)
9. I Wanna Be Your Lady (This song is mad corney)
10. 40 Cal (I'm thinking about it)
11. Melalin (I'm thinking about it)
12. So Free (I'm thinking about it)
13. Dead (It's all right)
14. Push It (What?!)
15. Aayo-Iight (I'm sorry, this song is corney)
16. Bigger Picture (That's on Purple Haze the Mixtape)
17. Crunk Muzik (Oh My God, that's on Jim Jones Album)

Accomplished and Original.......1999-07-04
Jerome Van Rossum's mostly instrumental "Diplomatic Immunity" gets better each time I hear it. He effectively combines 70's funk with more contemporary grooves, without resorting to overuse of sampled bits like most generic "acid jazz" artisits out there. Check out the Indian-influenced "Chittagong Groove", "the Phunky Bishop" and the title track for album highlights. Also check out Van Rossum's new Latin Jazz album "Mata Buena", which may actually slightly surpass Diplomatic Immunity in my opinion. Both CDs have been welcome additions to my collection.
A fantastic combination of musical styles that works!.......1999-06-28
This album transcends a multitude of musical styles and periods in a refreshing and unforced fashion. The album has an acid jazzy feel, but it goes further than most others. Some tunes lean towards older jazz, while others sound more Latin American. In between you'l find all kinds of surprising combinations. This is the kind of album I can not play as background music because it draws me in every time I hear it. The best thing to do is to get into a comfortable chair and crank up the volume! Definitely worth the investment.
Great Album!!Combines worldmusic and jazzfunk........1999-01-11
Good funky groove.I think this artist has great potential and knows a good deal about different musical cultures: Jerome Van Rossum is able to mix tabla rhythms and Indian flutes with salsa bass-lines and a nasty groove straight from the 70s. Most of the album is instrumental, with three cuts featuring jazzy vocals by different female vocalists and JVR himself. I also like the inside picture of Jerome sitting in his studio in the middle of many instruments he plays on the album. Finally, part of the proceeds Jerome dedicates to the Tibet Fund, to work toward the political recognition of the oppressed Tibetan people.

Customer Reviews:
Genius.......2003-12-23
This album feels like a glimpse inside the mind and soul of someone who is part stranger, part friend, and part mirror. Imaginary Johnny combines music with sensitive vocals and thoughtful lyrics to gently illustrate moments and emotions that seem strangely familiar. Every track is sing-along-able, and there is no low spot to the album. "I Forgot My Wallet" is my personal favorite track. The repeated, impassioned declaration of "I don't ever want to need anyone that much again" is a serious emotional punch. Basically, this is genius. I am excitedly awaiting his next effort. I enjoyed this CD the first time I heard it, and it only gets better and better with further listening. It has quickly become one of my all-time favorites, and I absolutely recommend it. Buy this CD; you will not regret it.
Best $ ever spent.......2003-08-27
I am pretty careful with my money, seeing as how $ is an hour of work at my mundane job, but I have never been happier with my spending. Imaginary Johnny combines lyrics that pour out true emotion with beats that keep your head nodding. The music is different from anything I have heard before, but there is something familiar about it all. I have no doubts that anyone who likes music, will love this.
New and improved.......2003-08-27
I am constantly keeping my ears open for new, fresh, good music, and this is a gem. It is music that means something, brings out emotion, and the lyrics convey true feeling to the listener. This CD arrived at my house almost two weeks ago, and it has yet to come out of my player. I hear something new every time I listen to a song, and I love it. I hope that Imaginary Johnny is in actuality a real being, because I want more.
New Music Brings a Breath of Fresh Air.......2003-08-05
Great musicians are getting harder to find, especially the ones that can create the whole package themselves. This CD brings together the sounds of independant rock, studio beats, and Lennonesque vocals, along with innovative & creative lyrics. This album is a modern showcase of classic music. Each track creates new musical atmospheres and demonstrates what true musicianship is. I highly recommend this CD to whoever enjoys fresh new artists and their musical ideas.
